Visionary Kiss III Part 10
O`CONNELL`S HOME – LIBRARY STAIRS, - NIGHT
“1150 BC.” she started with scarce, didactic voice, “sent Ramses IV. A lost expedition, actually this was the last that managed to reach the oasis. About one thousand man strong. “
“Don’t tell me that not one from them made it back. That they all disappeared.”
She innocently cast the eyes down. “Are you sure that you have not read about it?”
Rick could only look at her, unbelieving that this was happening, again. Shaking his head he let out a sigh, “I only guessed. Tell me more.”
“Have I already told you about the Golden Pyramid?”
“How nice. Jewels also play a role. Greed always gives the things the right seasoning anyway.”
They had arrived on the half-landing. Evey stopped and gave him a roguish smile. In the meantime she had started to have fun with this conversation and she wanted to irritate him some more. “Alexander the great, sent troops to look for them.”
“What a surprise.”
“And Julius Caesar.”
“Really?”
“Not to forget Napoleon.”
“Sure, how could we forget about poor little Nappy. Of course they haven't gone by themselves. They were clever enough to send others, so somebody else could never return.”
“Right, Rick.”
“I mean we would do the same thing, send somebody else, because we know what we would have to expect? I mean if we were to think about going there. But that’s something we would never do, because we know better than that, right?”
“You are right …”
“Good. Finally you understand it.”
“…none of them has returned.”
Evey started to go upstairs again, ran along the Balustrade, pulled books from the shelves and cards from the drawers. An exhausted O’Connell could only follow her. He would never admit it, but he was afraid … afraid of the place or better the danger his loved wife would lead them this time to. His thoughts somersaulted, and he looked feverishly for a way, to come through to her and weaken her determination.
He was not aware of the two cars with darkened windows and headlights turned off, that drove onto the gravel, and drove slowly towards the house. This was something that perhaps would have helped him. One of the cars disappeared around the corner while the other stopped in front of the main entrance. A curtain was pulled back and a dark skinned person with sharp features peeked out – Lock-nah, Meela’s Bodyguard.
OUSIDE O’CONNELL’S HOME – MAIN ENTRANCE, - NIGHT
And as unhappy chance wanted it so, Lock-nah looked right into the open window through which he was able to see Alex O’Connell with a small, but heavy object. A very valuable object: the small box, which contained the bracelet of the King of the Scorpions.
O`CONNELL’S HOME – LIBRARY, - NIGHT
The little boy swayed under the weight, his parents had allowed him to carry it, that, even so small had not fitted into any suitcase.
“Uff!” the boy pushed breathlessly out and made a small break. He was dressed in short blue trousers and jacket to match. “This goddamned thing weighs a ton!”
“Alex! Watch what you are saying!” his mother called down to him.
“I must say that this is astonishingly heavy.” he said forcedly distinguishably and set down the box a little harder than he hntenntended.
Invisible, not only to the small boy, but also to the O’Connells and Lock-nah, Willow appeared beside the table. After she made sure that his parents were not paying attention she reached out and touched the small box; she triggered the mechanism, what made a clicking sound.
That got Alex’s attention, he looked up to the gallery, where his parents were deep into there conversation; he was looking for a key in his trouser pocket. With one last look, that made sure that his parents were really not paying attention and he kneeled down, putting the key into the lock.
The red-headed witch moved around the table to have a better look at what was happening, she was aware that what she had just started would bring the small boy she loved as if he was her own son into danger, but this was also the only way to make sure that he was safe. At least for a little while.
O`CONNELL`S HOME – LIBRARY GALLERY, - NIGHT
On the gallery Rick was standing right in front of his wife. He stroked a curl of her hair out of her face and said, “Evey, the first of this crazy dreams you had approximately six weeks ago?”
Amazed she answered, “Hm, yes. Presumably yes. Here.” She pushed a stack of books into his arms and walked along the shelves.
O’Connell caught up and moved in front of her blocking the way, “Six weeks, this coincides with the Egyptian turn of the year by chance.”
That impressed her, “I had no idea that you did research…”
“The new Year after Egyptian calendar, honey, also known as the year of the scorpion.” This said he could only watch the changes in her face, from being impressed it changed towards thoughtful to finally show a little anxiety.
“Yes… the year of the pionpion, you are right. Right.”
Slowly he lifted her face with his forefinger under her chin and looked into her eyes. “Eve, please, let us be a little careful this time.”
She managed a small smile. “We are never careful.”
O’CONNELL’S HOME – LIBRARY, - NIGHT
Alex had opened the box and found out, where the clicking sound had come from: the golden bracelet with the symbol had opened. Fascinated he stared at the piece of jewellery, which seemed to call him.
Should he..?
Again his eyes moved towards the gallery, to find his parents lost in their conversation.
O’CONNELL’S HOME – LIBRARY GALLERY, - NIGHT
“I admit that we weren't always careful,” Rick said to his Evelyn, “but you have never brought about before ancient princesses, too. These, these hallucinations…”
“Thank you, but I prefer to call them visions.”
“How ever you want to call them, in this temple where we nearly” He measured a couple of centimetres with thumb and forefinger. “…bought the farm.”
Confused she wrinkled her forehead. “Why should we buy a farm, when we have this house? And by the way there is not enough left from the my parents fortune to buy anything.”
“Evey, this is only an idiom,” he said a little indignantly. “To buy the farm means to die.”
O’CONNELL’S HOME – LIBRARY, - NIGHT
Just as Alex had not listened to their conversation, his parents had not noticed what was happening under them. Standing with his back towards the window he blocked Lock-naviewview of what he was doing, so Willow was the only one that could see the sparkle in the boy’s eyes, a sparkle only children have, as he pulled up his sleeve, to lay his now freed wrist into the Bracelet… which immediately snapped shut like the jaws of a biting crocodile.
He suppressed a surprised sound and jumped back horrified. He stared at the heavy, golden Bracelet that had closed around his wrist by itself.
Walking around Willow lay her non-existent hands onto Alex shoulders, aware of what would happen next and the things she just had to do.
O’CONNELL’S HOME – LIBRARY GALLERY, - NIGHT
Still happily ignorant to the things his son was bringing about, Rick laid the stack of books onto the next chair, taking his woman into his arms enjoying the feel of her body pressed against his.
“You know anyway,” he said quietly and sincerely, “I would prefer to die than to allow something horrible to happen to you…”
Letting her fingers glide through his hair she smiled, “Rick, you know that I feel the same.”
“You and Alex, you are the most important things to me in this world.” O’Connell said his voice heavy with emotion as he pulled his wife more firmly into his arms.
O’CONNELL’S HOME – LIBRARY, - NIGHT
In the meantime their dear son went through a vision similar to his mother in the temple of Imhotep… an unresolved three-dimensional diagram of the Giza, three pyramids, a sphinx, everything as spotless as a freshly minted coin. When he extended his hand to touch the geometric figures, the picture left him – or was it Alex that moved away? He went through the unbelievable feeling to race along the Nile, as if he sat in a car giro. He swept over the desert and stopped at the temple of Karnak. He knew that it was the year 2000 BC, why and how he could know this he had no idea.
The Vision dissolved and left a little dazed boy; he looked down at his arm where the golden Bracelet, was still around his wrist.
