Chapter 7: Breaking the News
AN2: I have read Cerelun Sins by now and I realized that I have been using aspects of it that I heard before I read it. OOPS! Lol!
Oz looked over at Xander and wondered how to tel l him what had happened and who had raised Cordy. He had already called Los Angeles and found out, to his relief, that Xander had made sure that everyone who had died in Sunnydale had been cremated. He had even gone so far as to have Joyce and Tara dug up and cremated before he left Sunnydale. No one was sure why he had done it, and he refused to say.
Dawn had told them that she felt it was to keep their bodies from being desecrated by demons and other creatures that used human bodies as scavenged meat. They had all taken the news of Cordelia’s raising hard and they were even less impressed by the fact that the Council had put a hit out on Xander. The vampires were all upset by the fact that they couldn’t come to St. Louis, but they knew it would draw too much attention if the Master of Los Angeles and his Consort/Lieutenant left California and went to Muri.uri.
Giles and Dawn had wanted to come, but Oz had managed to convince them that Xander would have wanted them to go to LA instead. way way they would know that the pair was protected from the Council. Giles had promised to keep in touch and they were all waiting and praying that Xander didn’t lose control of his magic and grief the way that Willow had after Warren murdered Tara. No one talked about it, but they had all wondered and feared what the magic that Willow had forced into Xander’s body might do.
Oz was stunned when he learned that Willow had blasted Xander with dark magic a year before she had imbued him with all of her own magic, both light and dark. It was one of the things that Xander did not speak of. Giles had also told him that there was something else that Xander was keeping a secret, something that only he and Willow had known about.
What it was he was unsure, but it could be part of the reason why Travers and the Council wanted Faith and Buffy raised so badly. Of course, the fact that they could not find the new Slayer, no matter how hard they tried, could also have something to do with it. Giles was under the impression that Xander not only knew where the new Slayer was, but that he was protecting her for some reason,
“Oz? Has something else happened?” Xander asked in a rough, broken voice.
Oz looked at Xander and nodded, “The Council raised Cordy and they hired an assassin to kill you. Giles thinks it is because of something you and Willow knew. He also thinks it’s because you cremated Faith and Buffy,” Oz told him calmly.
He wasn’t the only one to tense when Xander growled low in his throat. The room that Xander was in was an open area, with just a curtain cutting Xander’s bed off from everyone else. They had all been warned that Xander might lose control and they were warned to just get the hell out of the way. Oz knew that Xander would hate himself if he hurt any of his friends.
Xander closed his eyes in rage and grief. “So it worked completely,” Xander whispered to himself, not realizin g that everyone could hear him.
“What worked?” Oz asked, confused.
“Willow and I knew we had to get rid of the magic that was polluting our systems. The coven in Devon was only able to teach Willow to control the magic and the dark aspects within her. She began to lose control again and I began to experience uncontrollable rages. I wanted to kill people, hit them or worse. We got together and realized that we needed to do something to get rid of the dark magic that was driving us out of control. So we did a spell, but the spell was not quite what we thought it was,” Xander told him softly.
“What was it? What were you trying for?” Oz asked, concerned.
“Willow was very powerful, almost a goddess powerful. There was no one who could touch her power. She only stopped because she loved me and because she was essentially a good person. The urge to destroy and control others was the hellmouth’s influence, not really Willow. The spell we found was supposed to expel the black magic and the evil that was festering inside of us, but that’s not what happened,” Xander told him softly.
“What did happen?” Oz asked.
“We changed the world. None of this is like it was before the spell. Somehow we merged two universes. The contaminated vamps are the vampires that were on the hellmouth in Sunnydale, Rome, Czechoslovakia and the one in Cleveland. Every other vampire became like the ones from this world. Everyone thought that it was bringing Buffy back from the dead that brought on the First Evil. It wasn’t, it was Willow and I merging the worlds. Our preternatural creatures were somehow changed; Shifters, witches and fey became well known. Demons were an abhorrent happening in this world, but now they are well known here and battled; two worlds became one and thest wst was given a foothold in both of them.
There will be no new Slayer; the one that was suppose to be called wasn’t and won’t be now. I’m not sure what d efeating the First did, but I know that it has lost the hol had had on both worlds. The reason that Angel, Dru and Spike did not remain as contaminates, before you ask, is because none of them were on a hellmouth at the time. Dru was in South America, Spike was in Africa and Angel was in Los Angelus. You were changed too, Oz. You now have control of your beast instead of being a mindless killer like you were in our reality. Everyone we know, everyone who was other when the realities merged, became stronger than they were before. Jesse didn’t fall to a rogue hunter. I staked him by accident, during a horror in Sunnydale. He was like the contaminated.
What I have just told you is why Travers is after me. If he finds out the truth, he will destroy everyone in his path to get hold of those that came from our reality, just so he can see how we are different.” Xander spoke softly, his eyes closing under another wave of pain and grief. Those who had been listening were s tunned by what they had heard. They knew he wasn’t lying, they could smell the truth on him and frankly it scared every one of them.
If Xander lost control, being more powerful than he was in the original reality and having Willow’s magic inside of him, there was no way that any of them would be able to stop him from killing everyone that stood between him and the Council.
