New Horizons

After feeling like she was going to swallow her tongue, she was able to tear her eyes away long enough to look at her…what? Companion? Yea sure why not…look at her companion and realize Lonza was looking at her like she had three heads.

Laughing softly she looked down at the wooden shackles around her wrists. She was in prehistory Europe…probably somewhere just outside where France would be give or take a few hundred million years.

She had paid enough attention in school to know from the lack of swords and metal that she had landed somewhere before the Iron Age. Torn between crying and just laying in a catatonic state until she died, she opted for crying. Dammit it had been a very stressful few days.

Apparently she was scaring Lonza, who seemed to be sitting there with an utterly confused look as to what to do. Looking down she stopped crying when she felt Lonza gently take her face in her hands and wipe the tears away. Smiling the woman pulled Buffy close and laid Buffy down in her lap.

“Suniy” Buffy heard Lonza say that word as she stroked her hair. She relaxed under the redheaded woman’s ministrations and wanting nothing more than sleep she knew she couldn’t or she wouldn’t wake up fast enough when the guards made there rounds.

Lonza looked down at the smaller blonde, relieved that the crying had stopped. She couldn’t let the woman draw attention to herself or she would be killed. Why that mattered to Lonza she wasn’t sure but as long as the tears had stopped she wasn’t going to complain.

Looking around she saw rain clouds ‘perfect’…they would escape tonight with the water to cover there tracks.

~That Night~

Buffy was shaken awake by her companion…looking up curiously she saw Lonza looking around, sitting up slowly she saw Lonza motioning with her hands. ‘What did she want?’

Lonza took Buffy’s hands and put them on her collar. Finally a little light went on in Buffy’s head. She wants me to break them. Looking around she made sure no one was looking. And she wrenched the collar apart, reaching up she did the same to her own.

Standing they looked at each other and broke into a run across the open field. Turning they saw the horsemen’s camp in a panic when hey were spotted. Quickly breaking into a sprint they burst through the trees and kept going into the woods.

She didn’t know why she was following Lonza but she figured the girl knew how to navigate her way through here better than she did. Winding down and through the trees she and Lonza broke through the trees, letting her slayer instincts take over she felt her eyes adjust…she couldn’t see in the dark but her eyes were better than most humans.

Taking Lonzas hand she led her to a small cave that was hidden by trees and shrubs. Pushing the taller woman into the opening she climbed in the pressed against he wall of the narrow cave, watching as the horsemen rode at full speed through the woods and passed them.

Not daring to relax until she saw the horsemen turn back to the camp as the sun rose in the sky. She turned and looked at her companion.

“Well that was a rush.” Buffy said as she carefully climbed out of the opening. Turning and looking around carefully before she stood and held out her hand for Lonza to take.

Helping Lonza stand she looked the woman over. Where did she plan on going? Well wherever it was…she better get used to a shadow.

Buffy waited for Lonza to start moving and she followed the redheaded woman…for the next several hours they both walked through the brush. Along the way Buffy had to stop herself from the habit of falling in step behind Lonza. Instead forcing herself to walk beside her.

Noticing how the woman seemed to watch everything at once as they walked on made Buffy slightly reassured. When they stopped for a break at a small lake she sat down at watched as Lonza began unpinning the loincloth and small wrap that consisted of her clothes and walk into the water.

Realizing how dirty and smelly she was after weeks of travel with minimal time to do anything but sleep and eat. Buffy stood and peeled off her sweaty shirt, unclasping her bra and stepping out of her jeans she went to the waters edge and hesitantly stepped in. Trying not to think about the bugs or… ‘SHIT that was cold’

Forcing herself to continue to walk into the water she stopped once she was waist deep and turned to her companion. Watching as the woman was rinsing water through her dreadlocks, watching as the woman was working what looked like clay and mud out of her hair and scrubbing it off her skin.

She was transfixed by what was hidden under all that dirt and grime. Lonza was beautiful. Her hair was some sort of auburn color and her skin was tanned and made her green eyes stand out nicely.

Turning away Buffy began scrubbing what she could off her skin. She knew there wasn’t much she could do about the smell because once she put those clothes back on well…it would be back.

Sighing she let herself enjoy the feel of the water around her. She felt more relaxed than she had since she had stepped in that circle.

She had to find a way to make sure Lonza took her back there.

Lonza watched out of the corner of her eye as the small blonde washed the dirt off her skin. Taking time to wring her hair free of mud and water Lonza was curious about this woman; she had a strong wiry body.

She seemed to have a hunter’s body with the way she moved gracefully. True she didn’t know anything about how to survive here and Lonza had decided that she would be useful to her people but she couldn’t deny that the woman didn’t seem to have any loose fat on her. And she could tell the woman wasn’t starving, she was just lithe and lean.

She was very beautiful; Lonza wondered idly if she had a mate wherever it is she came from. She couldn’t believe that anyone that had a mate like Boofay would let her become captured. And if Boofay had a mate and he or she was captured and killed…why didn’t she bear the mourning marks.

Nothing makes sense about her.

Looking down she examined her hands, making sure they were clean; looking down to make sure she got the dirt scrubbed away she turned and walked out of the water. Reaching down she picked up her skins and walked to the waters edge, rinsing her skins and squeezing the excess water out she stood and walked to a large boulder and lay her skins across them. Turning she did the same for the blondes skins, although they were heavier and harder to clean she managed too before laying them across the boulder.

Settling down she waited for the girl to finish bathing. Watching as she was now swimming in the water. How does something that small have the strength to break solid wood collars?
