*************
Sheppard sat at the controls of the puddle-jumper with Harris in the co-pilot set giving him a flying lesson as they, with Spike and Lt. Ford who were sitting in the seats behind them, were on their way back from scouting a planet they were hoping was inhabited by people they could trade with.
“So, why are this things called puddle-jumpers?” Spike asked as he leaned over Sheppard’s shoulder, “I mean they go through the Stargate, right? Wouldn’t it make sense for you to call them Gate-ships?”
Lt. Ford spoke up, “That’s what I said!”
Sheppard slowly turned his head and through narrowed eyes, softly drawled, “No.”
“But it makes no sense.” Spike told him.
“This from someone who thought the named, Spike .” Harris taunted the vampire.
“Oh, like someone named Xander, has a lot of room to talk!”
Sheppard sighed and wondered to himself why it seemed only McKay got why he named the puddle-jumpers, puddle-jumpers!
Harris then glared at Spike then said, “Because Spike the Stargate looks like a puddle of water, the ships are used for short flights and they jumper through the Stargate - you have puddle-jumpers.” Harris’s explanation made Sheppard blink in amazement. Well now it seemed that there were two people who understood how he thought. Sheppard wonder for a moment if that should worry him.
“Somehow I doubt…”Spike started but was cut off when Sheppard spoke up, “He’s right.”
“…that’s…what?” Spike said when he realized what Sheppard said.
“I said, Harris is right.”
Spike sighed and throw himself back into his chair, “I don’t know what’s more worrying. The fact that the boy can understand how you think…or, and this is the frightening part, is the fact you think like the boy,” Spike muttered.
