Spike’s passions part 4

Spike stared between Willow and Xander as they patrolled through the cemetery. He couldn’t believe how uncomfortable he was around them. It was just a dream after all. He hadn’t *really* cheated on Xander with Willow. So why was he feeling so bad?

A few fledges swarmed out of the woods and Spike quickly staked them, making sure to keep them as far from Xander as he could. This was getting ridiculous. He walked the two back into town, making sure they were safely inside before he headed back to the crypt.

Maybe tonight, he would find out what the hell was going on in dream Spike’s head.

Tabitha stared into her crystal ball and watched the action unfold with her least favorite author. She had to laugh. It didn’t seem like she would need to do anything. Spike’s boyfriend was curled up on the couch with another man while Spike himself slept off the effects of his latest round of binge drinking.

She widened her focus, looking for anything else of interest that may be going on in her sleepy little town of Harmony. She found Sam Bennett and paused to watch the sexy sheriff in action. He was simply delicious.

He was currently at a traffic stop and he was leaning over the vehicle speaking to its occupants. The crystal ball shimmered and Tabitha gasped when she saw who Sam was speaking to.

“Timmy! Come quickly!” Timmy came running into the room next to her and she showed him her crystal ball.

“Oh, no. The Ripper is in town. With Angelus. This cannot be good, madam.”

“We must prepare ourselves quickly. If the Ripper is in town, none of us are safe.”

“Tara!” The sound of footsteps were soon heard and the young woman herself appeared. “Yes, madam?”

“I’m sending you to the Magic Box for supplies. There is a dark wizard in town and we are in need of some supplies. Go quickly.” Tabitha handed Tara her quickly made list and the young witch hurried from the room.”

Miguel held Xander closely to him. His friend had cried himself to sleep the night before and Miguel knew he needed comfort. He stroked his hand softly down Xander’s back, his mind filled with regrets.

When he’d left Harmony several years before, Miguel had ended his relationship with Xander. He’d known that while he was in medical school he wouldn’t want Xander waiting around for him. He’d been convinced that breaking things off would be best for both of them.

Miguel had never regretted his decision more. Xander would never be in this position if he had just followed his heart and asked Xander to come with him. But he hadn’t. He hadn’t been willing to make the commitment and now, here he was, holding Xander as he cried for another man.

It made him furious. Xander deserved better than this. He should be treated like the prince he was instead of tiptoeing around a temperamental writer with a drinking problem. He shouldn’t have to worry that his boyfriend loved booze more than him.

Miguel would never have treated him that way. Of course, he’d thrown Xander away when he left and now there wasn’t anything he could do about it. He brushed his hand slowly through Xander’s dark hair.

Footsteps caused him to raise his eyes and there was the demon of the hour. His majesty had arisen from his drunken stupor and was now glaring at Xander and Miguel.

“Don’t you say one word.”

“This is my house, I can say whatever I damn well please. Such as, what the hell do you think you’re doing?”

“I’m comforting my friend. You know, the man you supposedly love? The man you’re supposed to take care of? You know, Xander? The one who had to call me to haul your sorry drunken ass out of the shower to make sure you were still alive.”

“Get out of my house. Now.”

Miguel shifted Xander from his arms and stood. Xander choose that moment to blink awake and he stared back and forth between Spike and Miguel. “What’s going on?”

Spike answered. “He’s leaving.”

Xander stared at Spike, not believing how rude he was being. He looked back at Miguel. “I’ll walk you out.”

They walked out the front and Xander went all the way to Miguel’s car with him. “I’m sorry.”

Miguel grabbed his arms. “Don’t apologize for him. Ever, Xander. Do you hear me? You deserve better. Damn it, Xan. What are you doing with him? No, don’t answer that. I don’t think I could stand to hear it right now. Just know that I’ll always be here if you need me. I don’t care what he says.”

Xander watched as Miguel got in his car and drove away. Then he returned to the house. And Spike.

Spike was pacing when Xander entered the room. “What the hell were you thinking calling him over here? You know how I feel about him, Xander. Why?”

“You were unconscious, Spike. I didn’t know what to do!”

“So you call your doctor boyfriend to come over? I told you I never wanted you to call him. You agreed. That was the only thing I asked of you Xander.”

“I’m sorry, Spike. I didn’t think. I didn’t know what to do.”

“Well, you can get out. I don’t need a boyfriend who runs to his ex every time there’s a problem. So leave. Now.”

“Spike…”

“I said get out.”

Xander turned and grabbed his keys from the table and walked out the door. Spike stormed out the back and towards the studio.

Miguel was so tempted to just go get drunk himself and not think about leaving Xander with his idiot boyfriend. But thinking of Spike’s drunk form lying in the bottom of the shower was enough to curb his impulse.

He didn’t know much, but he knew that Xander and Spike were probably going to have it out tonight. Hopefully Spike’s behavior had woken him up to the mistake that was their relationship.

The lights of Jake’s called to him and Miguel pulled into the bar parking lot. He may not be willing to toss back a few drinks tonight but he sure as hell could use a good time. He entered the bar and took a quick glance around before settling his gaze on the one person who would commiserate with his problems with Xander and Spike.

Buffy.

Spike’s eyes flew open as he let the implications of his dream roll over him. Nothing about Angel. Damn. And he and Xander looked like they were over. Spike couldn’t help feeling sorry for dream Spike. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. It was a lesson that Spike had learned the hard way. He hoped dream Spike was smarter than he was.
