The Blossoming Dawn--Chapter Four
Her hands shivered slightly and her palms were sweaty. She was so nervous as she sat there next to Ben watching the horror movie. She felt awkward, felt like a dork.
He turned his head and smiled and her heart beat faster.
‘Maybe this isn’t so bad’ she thought as he yawned and slowly placed his arm around her. She snuggled in closer as they shared the buttery popcorn.
A scream echoed through the theatre as a knife-wielding maniac jumped out a blonde woman with large breasts ran away in terror and Dawn jumped grabbing his arm and squeezing his hand. He held her tighter, “You okay?” he asked his hazel eyes soft.
She nodded and smiled slyly inside. It had worked! It was pretty lame and sad but she had read in some teen magazine how if you go to a scary movie you should fake being scared so you can get closer to your date.
The movie was over and they stood outside the theatre, both smiling and fidgeting nervously.
“Um—do you want me to walk you home?” he asked. Dawn smiled, “Sure” and they walked side by side awkwardly.
“So um—did you like the movie?” he asked trying to make conversation while they walked.
She nodded “Yeah it was kind of scary—pretty good. I thought the killer was creepy—do you like scary movies?”
“Oh—yeah I had fun it was great.”
“Yeah the blood looked really realistic…” She felt like crawling into a hole.
‘The blood looked really realistic how weird and dumb was that’ she felt embarrassed.
“N-Not that I’ve ever seen real blood. Who would want to? Well I mean I’ve scraped my knee a few times but I don’t like compare real blood to fake that’d be weird. I just meant that---“
His lips pressed to hers and she stopped mid-sentence, his lips soft on hers. She screamed inside. My First Kiss! Her heart raced and she awkwardly put her arms around his neck.
He pulled away and she smiled, “Um—thanks. I mean—“
‘Oh god, could I be any more of a dork’ she scolded herself, embarrassed at thanking him. She silently hoped he wouldn’t guess that it had been her first kiss. He didn’t laugh, only smiled just as nervously as she had.
“You’re welcome—I mean you know um—it was nice.”
“Yeah” she said and they continued to walk silent for a moment.
He spoke quickly, his voice strained and anxious, “I—I didn’t mean to just kiss you like that. I’m sorry if it offended you. I’ve just wanted to because I think you’re really—pretty and I hope it didn’t ruin tonight because…um I’d really like to see you again. Um—if you want to?” he stared at her anxiously fidgeting, fearful that she might reject him.
“I’d like that. And um—you didn’t offend me you just---took me by surprise---a good surprise though” she said smiling attempting to be flirtatious, hoping she didn’t look silly.
“I’m glad. I—I’ve well never really kissed a girl before.”
Dawn was shocked—she’d never met a boy who was so honest or willing to admit they’d never kissed a girl. The boys she knew or had met liked to brag a lot.
It made her smile as she stared into his hazel eyes and it made her brave. It gave her the courage she needed. She didn’t feel as nervous or embarrassed as she had before.
“It—It was kinda my first kiss too.”
They both laughed feeling more comfortable and continued the walk home.
They reached her front door and stood for a moment, then Dawn with her newfound bravery smiled, “I had a nice time tonight”, then she kissed him slowly on the lips and pulled away, “see you in school” she said her voice as flirty as she could make it.
He nodded and smiled walking slowly down the steps.
She closed the door and walked up to her room anxious to write in her diary. She was practically bursting with excitement. She had gotten her first real kiss! And Ben thought she was pretty!
She jumped up and down excitedly in her room. ‘I have another date!’ she thought and couldn’t wait.
She stared into her mirror and spoke aloud, her voice soft, “Maybe I am beautiful.”
Then she reached under her mattress and slid out her diary anxious to write in it.
Anxious to write down that she Dawn Summers had gotten her very first kiss.
He turned his head and smiled and her heart beat faster.
