4. Celebrate Good Times!

(Later at the Bronze)
Over the speakers can be heard: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, this is your friendly neighborhood DJ, Jac-K coming at you with the top 40 in pop and rock from all over the nation. To kick it off for you tonight I have a special request…for all my grrls who brought it! to the field today at UCS with a win of 14-10…SMAAAAACKERS…it’s time to celebrate!!!” (The song, Celebrate Good Times comes blaring over the speakers)

Being pulled out onto the floor by her teammates Tara laughs loudly before she begins dancing wildly with them to the 70s hit that fits them perfectly on this celebratory night.

Finally able to convince her fellow players that she needs a break, Tara leans back against the bar, her face flushed as Sarah regales the rest of the team with highlights of the game focusing mostly on Tara’s exploits as the MVP sips her drink wishing her friend would give it a break for a minute.

Having accepted more congratulatory drinks than she can count, Tara finally stands up to another round of applause from the crowd before calling out, “Alright Smackers, this was only our first game and I know it is only the first of many wins!” Raising her hands to calm their burst of cheering at that, the usually shy Wicca continues, “I want to thank you all for your support, all the praise and all these drinks, but share the wealth now, because we all played a fantastic game!”

With a few more praises from her team, Tara slumps down on her stool as they finally disperse and heaves a great sigh of relief. Chuckling deeply, Sarah drapes her arm over Tara’s shoulders saying, “I was wondering how long it would take to get a speech outta ya’.” Slapping the hand dangling over her shoulder the blonde rolls her eyes mock grumping, “Why didn’t you just call for one then, Sar?” and the brunette answers teasingly, “Well, wouldn’t have been as much fun now would it”

Chuckling at her teasing friend, Tara looks around at all the drinks lined up on the counter in front her and groaning, whines, “Saaaar, what am I going to do with all these drinks?” Laughing softly at her Sarah sits next to her with a shrug, saying, “Just pick a few of the ones you like and leave the rest, Tar. No one is going to notice in this crowd.”

Giving a resigned nod, the Wicca begins tasting various drinks as her friend turns to watch the dance floor, spotting a redhead mixing it up with their short-stop Cari. Nudging Tara, she says, “Don’t look now but Cari is out there dancing with your Ex, Tar.”

Turning to look Tara smile indulgently as she watches Willow spin around Cari with a flirtatious laugh, and Sarah questions her, “Doesn’t that upset you?” Shaking her head, she tells the brunette, “Willow and I have been apart for over 8 months now, Sar. We’ve become friends, so it’s all to the good.”
Eyebrow rising as that well known cocky grin spreads across her face Sarah confirms, “So, when you said ‘stick with Willow’ earlier, you were serious?” causing Tara to chuckle and nod before continuing, “Well now, I’ll just go see about cutting in then.”

Shaking her head in amusement at her friend’s antics as she watches Sarah approach Cari and Willow, Tara turns to a well known voice on her left saying, “If it isn’t the MVP, Tara Maclay.”

Blushing lightly at Buffy’s words the Wicca smile into twinkling hazel eyes saying, “If it isn’t the SHS, Buffy Summers.” Making the petite woman frown in confusion she explains with a chuckle as she leans down to whisper in Buffy’s ear, “Super Hero Slayer.”

Breaking into a grin at Tara’s little title for her, the Slayer sits beside her on Sarah’s vacated stool, watching as Willow dances with another of Tara’s teammates, before saying, “We tried to reach you after the game, but you seemed to have gotten swallowed up by the crowd.” Turning her head to face back to Tara she continues, “We thought you didn’t do sports, Tar.”

Giving Buffy her crooked smile Tara says, “Used to play back in Junior High School until Donny caught me at a home game and told Dad. Haven’t played since, until now and only because Sarah guilted me into it. Well, that and promised that I would get to meet lots of single, young lesbians.”

Laughing at Buffy expression, Tara says, “Come on, Buff. You can’t believe I would stay single and alone after Willow now can you?” but sees the smaller woman’s confirming blush and continues to chuckle with a shake of her head as Willow and Sarah come back from dancing.

Making the introductions all around, after Willow gives her a big hug saying, “Great game, Tar!” Tara thanks her with a smile as the redhead accepts a drink from Sarah with a slight blush and a quiet “thank you”.

Turning toward the counter to set her drink down, Willow takes in all the drinks in front of Tara and quips, “Got enough to drink, Tar?” making the blonde Wicca groan again and whine, “Saaaraah, I told you!” before she covers her face in her hands.

Chuckling softly Sarah explains to Tara’s confused friends, “These were all congratulatory gifts from our fellow teammates and a few others. I told Tara to just pick the ones she wants and don’t worry about the rest, but I think she doesn’t want to offend any of the givers of the drinks she doesn’t consume.”

Turning to the worried woman Buffy gently pulls her hands away from her red face saying, “You know Tar, most of these generous contributors are off dancing and such, right?” at a nod from the Wicca continues, “Then why don’t you let me handle the ones you don’t want? I promise they won’t go to waste, and no one will be the wiser…hmm?”
Looking at Buffy skeptically Tara finally nods her “OK” and watches as the Slayer turns to the bartender calling out, “Rick, can I get a tray for these drinks?” and points to the line up on the counter. Nodding Rick, “Frisbees” a tray to the small blonde who snatches it out of the air and begins loading the tray with all but the three drinks Tara has held aside.

Sarah looks to Willow in question but the redhead just shrugs with a smile and they turn to watch as Buffy begins to dance step onto the dance floor the tray held steadily over her head.

Eyes wide as she watches the Slayer begin to dance between couples on the floor and hand them drinks with a smile and a word or two, Tara just sits with an expression of wonder on her face at Buffy’s helpfulness and ingenuity.
Coming Back with the tray empty, Buffy smiles at Tara saying, “See? Happy dancers now.” as the grateful witch hugs the surprised Slayer causing Willow to giggle cutely as she and Sarah applaud the Slayer’s accomplishment and Buffy blushing at their praise.

Chuckling as he takes the tray back from Buffy Rick says, You know, Buff- I could always use another talented waitress…” and Buffy slaps the beefy man playfully on the arm saying, “One time deal, Ricky! Sooo, not gonna happen.” Making her friends laugh as the Bartender winks and move off to fill another order.

Noticing an open table the foursome mutually agree to move to the quieter and less busy atmosphere there as Willow and Sarah run ahead to catch it before anyone else and Buffy helps Tara with her extra drinks.

(The start of something good...)
