Chapter Four - Knight in Shining Armor

Spike awoke, finding himself in the arms of an all too familiar man. "X-Xander?" he asked, realizing how shaky his voice sounded. God, I am so fucking weak. Back in the day, he'd been able to endure several days of excrucating torture. He swollowed hard, feeling his own blood go down his throat. "Yes, Spike, it's me," Xander started, "I've come to get you out of here." The sounds of battle could be heard in the background, followed by dusting. But Spike noticed none of this, because next thing he knew, he was being placed in the passenger seat of a car he vaguely remembered. "Xaaannddeerrr," Spike said slowly. He was clearly still groggy from being unconcious so long. "Aren't you the knight in shining armor?" the blonde vampire muttered. Sarcasm. It was a sign of conciousness in Spike's case. Xander sighed. "Don't...call me that," he stated, not desiring to give reason to why. And Spike was still in too much mind-numbing pain to question him.

......

The men arrived at Xander's home soon enough, and Spike was feeling better mentally. Now he just had to work on his physical and emotional parts. Although he was sure Xander could take care of both of those entities. Xander helped the injured vampire out of the car, through the house, and into a bed. It was then that he took a moment to inspect the damage that had been done to his lover. He nearly passed out at the sight of it. There wasn't a part of the blonde that wasn't cut, bruised, missing, bleeding, or simply covered in blood. Thank God Spike decided to wear underwear for once, or else it could have been even worse...

Xander then looked down at his own clothing, which was now also covered in Spike's blood. Shit. He went to his bathroom and returned with a sponge, bowl of water, and some gauze. He was about to begin his self-appointed duties when he decided he should loose the shirt. He'd most likely be throwing it away anyways. He didn't want to be keeping anything to remind him of this. Spike had fallen asleep once in the bed, so Xander decided to wake him before doing anything. "What the f-" Spike awoke, startled. But Xander, for once, had expected this. "Spike, I'm going to be...cleaning you off, if that's, um, okay with you." He knew he probably came off sounding really unsure of himself, which he was, simply because he wasn't sure how Spike would react to the intimacy of the situation they were in. "Of course, love," Spike replied, calming down while opening his eyes completely. He smirked as he took in the sight before him.

Xander - his Xander, he decided - was sitting on a chair next to the bed, shirtless, with a look of sheer concern on his face. Concern. For him. The thought made him happier than it should have. His thoughts were right then interrupted by the touch of an ice cold, wet sponge on his arm. The vampire's eyes drifted from the sponge to the hand holding the sponge, and lastly settling on Xander's handsome face. The two lovers' eyes interlocked, and Xander felt himself getting hard from just that. This cannot be normal, he thought to himself, as he attempted to focus on the task at hand. He reluctantly pulled his gaze away from the brilliant blue eyes before him.

He continued the rest of the process in silence, avoiding eye contact with the vampire. But that was short lived, because that very vampire soon broke the silence with his own questioning statement. "Why are you doing this?" he asked, his voice soft and low, as if not really wanting to hear the answer. Xander looked up to see those sparkling blue eyes gazing at him curiously and full of thought. He was about to pour his soul out when he suddenly remembered the ending to their last encounter. He decided to turn the tables for a while. "Why not?" he said as passively as he could. Spike looked away then, not wanting to show any feeling. The truth was, Spike felt...broken, in a way. He thought he could just have fun with the boy, and just shag him when he needed it. But now he was realizing that he needed much more than that. He needed to be in a relationship. To be loved. And he felt Xander was the one who could give him that. The only question in his mind now was how to go about gaining that love. He suddenly felt very stupid for showing no emotion in their first encounter.

"Xander," he began...
