Left alone with only his thoughts, Xander struggled not to panic. He thought about his current situation.
It was Friday night. No one would miss him until Monday at school. His parents would think he was with Willow, Buffy would think he stayed away from trouble and Willow was practicing being a Watcher while Giles was visiting a friend in LA.
The meek vampire that used to adore Buffy was now the Master of Sunnydale with his own court. Said male vampire seemed to have the hots for Xander.
Oh yeah. My life’s not complicated, Xander thought glumly. He turned from the door to look at his surroundings. He took a seat in the sofa, running a hand through his hair.
Sure, he had fantasized about guys before. There was the brief crush he held for his dead friend Jessie. There were a few guys at school. There even were a few vampires. Like Spike; annoying Childe of Angelus. He never expected it to be more than fantasies though. He never thought his first kiss would be with Angelus, former Scourge of Europe.
In school, he had always diverted his eyes and attention towards girls. Buffy and Cordelia were prime examples of beautiful potential girlfriends. Not that there was anything wrong with Willow, she was also beautiful but Xander saw her more as a sister. He had known her since kindergarten and felt it would be like incest to pursue her. Ok let’s not go there!
Xander stood up and went over to the bathroom door. He may not like being here but that would not stop him from taking advantage of the facilities before finally getting some rest. He refused to think about the night’s revelations anymore.
Behind the door was a bathroom colored in teal and white. It had a counter with a teal-colored marble surface next to a white sink. A closet next to the toilet was filled with big soft cotton towels. There was a burgundy bathrobe hanging on a hook by the closet. Frosted glass fenced in the shower. He opened the cubicle’s door to take a look. It had two fixed showerheads and a portable one. There was a small but empty shelf on the wall.
Xander turned around and opened the cabinet under the counter. Expensive soaps and shampoos with different smells of pine, sandalwood and roses greeted him, along with a bag of disposable razors and shaving soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs and brushes, a small mirror on a stand and whatever else he might possibly need.
He took the pine-scented shampoo, conditioner and soap and put them on the shelf in the shower. Next he put a comb, a toothbrush and toothpaste on the counter along with one of the towels from the closet. He figured he would do the shaving tomorrow morning.
Xander always preferred to shower in the evening. He liked going to bed feeling clean. It also gave him more time to get to school since he had a habit of oversleeping.
He hesitated when he noticed the door had no lock. He did not let it stop him for long though. Xander needed to wash away the feelings the trip down memory lane had given him. Besides, the outer door was already locked. Hopefully it meant no one was getting in tonight.
He toed of his worn sneakers, letting his clothes fall to the floor. He was glad there was no big mirror in here. He did not like looking at his body. It had too many scars for his liking; he was also rather thin. Not having regular meals did that to a growing body. Sure, his mother could cook. When she wanted too. Often she and Tony had liquid dinners and Xander had to get by with what was available. Thank god he had Willow and Jessie during his younger years. They did not see anything wrong with him joining their dinners a few nights every week.
Xander stepped in the shower, turning on the water. He adjusted the water temperature and then just stood there, letting the water soak him.
After a while he reached for the shampoo and started cleaning his hair. The pine smelled good; like a rain-wet forest. He rinsed and added the conditioner. Letting it sit for a while, he took the bottle of gelled soap and filled the palm of his left hand. Putting back the bottle, Xander stepped away from the water. Adding soap to both his hands, he then ran them over his torso, arms and legs. The smooth glide felt good and he lingered on his chest, playing with his nipples, before moving down towards his buttocks and groin. He was not in the mood for anything serious though, so Xander just soaped up and rinsed off his body. Finally he rinsed his hair and turned of the water.
Stepping out of the shower Xander reached for the towel on the counter. Dried off, he put on the robe, letting the wet towel lie on the floor. Someone will probably get it later. Angelus did mention he had servants.
He took out a second towel for his hair, grabbed the comb and opened the bathroom door. He did not leave right away though.
Out on the table Xander saw a covered food tray and a water bottle. Someone had been in here while he showered, a servant most likely. What if he/she/it took a sneak-peak while he showered? He had not noticed anything but then again, he had not heard anything out here either. He could not see anyone in the room and hopefully the bedroom was still empty.
Xander took a deep breath, the lingering steam of pine filling his lungs.
He made a decision and left the bathroom. Xander did not approach the table though; instead he went into the bedroom to get some clothes from the wardrobe. He found a pair of sweat-pants in a drawer and put them on without any boxers underneath. Toweling his hair, Xander entered the anteroom again. He hung the robe over one of the chairs while eying the tray. Something smelled good and he realized he was hungry.
He threw the wet towel onto the bathroom floor. If he did not comb his hair soon it would look funny in the morning. Xander knew that from personal experience. The conditioner he had used made the comb’s work easy, however, and he was soon ready to eat.
Xander sat down in front of the tray. Removing the cloth revealed two sandwiches; one cheese and one ham, a red apple, a piece of chocolate cake and a note.
He picked up the note and started reading.
‘Xander,
I was not sure if you were hungry but felt it prudent to give you the choice to eat. If you do not want it, no harm done. I noticed you were in the shower. I’m glad you feel secure enough here to use it.
I realized I never told you the minions do not have permission to access your rooms. The servants are only to enter during the day; in the morning to give you breakfast, during lunch and lastly during dinner. At night, Spike or I may visit you. However, you’ll never be alone with dear Drusilla. She is eager to see you but I do not quite trust her to play nice with you.
You do not have permission to enter the rest of the house unless one of my Childer or I are with you. You can however enter the garden during a few hours each day. Just tell one of my servants and they will fetch for a guard to accompany you. Sorry but I do not dare to leave you alone just yet.
Angelus
PS. I know you like chocolate. I hope you’ll enjoy the cake.
PPS. No I did not watch you in the shower. Tempting though it was I’d rather wait.’
So. It had been Angelus. Well, if what Xander suspected was true it did not matter if he had watched him in the shower. It’s not like Xander could have stopped him either.
I’m not sure I would have stopped him. I know I’m a captive here but I like the feeling of being cared for by someone. Even if it’s Angelus. Maybe because it’s Angelus?
Xander ate the sandwiches quickly, eager to taste the cake. He liked chocolate candy but it was not often he could get his hands on a chocolate cake. He took his first taste and moaned. It was heavenly. He savored each bite until there was no more. He even licked the plate clean of traces of chocolate crumbs.
He went into the bathroom to brush his teeth quickly. He hated getting rid of the chocolate taste but he would hate going to the dentist even more. It was expensive and besides… no one really likes going to the dentist.
Xander then took the apple and the bottle from the table, put the cloth back on the tray and headed for the bedroom. He paused by the doorway to hit the light switch for the anteroom.
Entering the bedroom, he went to the left bedside table. He put down the apple and bottle, and turned on the radio. It had been too quiet, being by himself for so long. He was not used to the quiet.
Usually there were the arguments his parents made, the occasional car going by outside or the TV being on. At other times, he hung out with Buffy and Willow at the Bronze, during patrol or at school.
Xander found a station that seemed to play only music and left it there. It was thoughtful of Angelus to leave him with some kind of contact with the outside world. Although it would not have hurt having a TV and a game consol to amuse himself with during the day. There are the books though. I’ll take a look tomorrow. Just because he did not like to study did not mean he did not like to read. The public library had always been a good place to hide from dear old dad.
He went over to the other bedside table and lit the small lamp. He then went over to the doorway and hit the light switch. The small lamp illuminated enough to let him find the bed.
The bed was big and Xander stretched out on the soft mattress. The clock showed 11:23pm. He turned off the small lamp and closed his eyes. Maybe tomorrow he would finally freak out?
