Chapter 4
Another day, another chapter. Enjoy.
******
Buffy woke up feeling oddly content. It took her awhile to adjust to her surroundings before she felt someone next to her. Someone who she was actually resting on right now. Her and Faith must have moved in the night so the brunette had her arms around her and she was resting her head on her shoulder.
She sighed quietly and thought about how this position didn’t bother her at all. She even liked it a little. It felt comfortable, almost familiar. Buffy hoped she could learn more about the other slayer as this progressed... if she wanted this to progress.
Faith mumbled a little in her sleep and tightened her hold on the blonde slayer. Buffy smiled slightly and started tracing patterns on the brunette’s stomach, thinking it would wake the young slayer up. She continued for about five minutes before the younger girl started to slowly wake, slowly shifting in the bed and becoming aware of her surroundings.
“Hmm,” Faith began to open her eyes, “good morning, B.” She lightly kissed the blonde’s forehead.
“Good morning,” Buffy said, turning to smile at the brunette.
“Are you okay with this?” Faith asked, indicating their current position.
“Strangely enough, yeah,” Buffy responded slowly. She moved out of Faith’s arms and turned on her side to face her. “I could see myself getting very used to this, but I really do want to get to know you better... and not just in the way you’re thinking.”
Faith grinned. “I guess I can do that. But first, I want to do this.” She leaned her and captured the older slayer’s lips with her own.
Buffy tensed for a split second before responding to the kiss, parting her lips to let the brunette’s tongue slide against her own. They rolled so Faith was over Buffy as they continued their steamy kiss. Before they could really get into it, however, the pair heard the front door open and close.
Both froze mid-kiss, staring at each other with huge eyes. Faith moved her head up so she was hovering just a couple inches above the blonde. “B, when is your mom coming home?”
Buffy looked at her worriedly, “Um, this morning.”
“Shit,” Faith muttered and rolled off Buffy, then jumped off the bed. She brushed herself off, trying to straighten up. The blonde sat up and ran a hand through her hair before getting up as well.
“Might as well cut her off at the pass,” the older slayer said, walking swiftly to the door, grabbing Faith along the way. “Come on.”
“Um, what do we say?” Faith asked as Buffy took firm hold of her hand.
“As long as you don’t start off with ‘I’m trying to get into your daughter’s pants’, I think we’ll be okay,” Buffy answered while looking back to smirk at the young slayer.
Faith chuckled and followed Buffy down the stairs, running right into Joyce when they reached the bottom. Mrs. Summers yelped in surprise before taking a step back and looking at the two slayers.
“Buffy, Faith, you startled me,” she said, holding a hand to her chest. She looked directly at Buffy. “You didn’t tell me Faith would be staying over.”
“It was a last minute thing,” Buffy said, attempting to be casual, “we were slaying kind of late and it was just easier for her to stay here.”
Joyce smiled, “Oh, okay.” She looked over at Faith and at her clothes. “Faith, is that one of Buffy’s shirts?”
“Yeah,” Faith said slowly, “my shirt got kind of torn up and bloody in last night’s action.”
Joyce looked a little startled, concern showing on her face. “My God, are you away?”
“Sure,” Faith smiled at her, “I’m fine. Just a flesh wound.”
“Oh,” Joyce said, still giving both slayers a look of concern, “I wish you girls were more careful.”
“We are Mom,” Buffy sighed. “It comes with the job.” She looked to Faith who nodded in agreement.
“I just get so worried about both of you,” Joyce sighed.
The young brunette tried her best not to look shocked at the older Summers’ words. She hadn’t missed the fact the woman had said both instead of just Buffy. Faith didn’t realize Joyce had felt that way, but she was elated someone did.
Joyce looked around the house for a moment. “Well, how about some breakfast?”
Buffy grinned. “Pancakes?”
“Why not,” Joyce smiled back. “Faith, would you say for breakfast?”
“Sure,” Faith’s face brightened, “thanks, Mrs. S.”
******
The pair separated after breakfast, Faith going back to the motel to get cleaned up and change clothes, Buffy off to school. They planned to meet up later in the afternoon at the library to go through the usual slayer business with Giles.
When Buffy got to school, she found Willow waiting for her at her locker. She smiled but sighed, anticipating the barrage of questions that was sure to come.
“Buff, what happened last night?” Willow asked anxiously. “Come on, I want details.”
Buffy shrugged. “Not much,” she said simply. “We patrolled then went back to my place and hung out.”
“That’s it?” the redhead asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Well, Faith got a little hurt and she stayed over.”
Willow’s eyes got wide again. She inched closer to the blonde and lowered her voice. “Did anything happen?”
Buffy gave her best friend a sarcastic look. “Yeah, Will, Faith stayed over and we had wild, hot sex all night.”
The redhead blushed the color of her hair and started coughing. “Buff, don’t say things like that,” she hacked out. “You’re going to give me a heart attack.”
“Well, you asked for it,” Buffy stared at her then felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to see Xander grinning behind her and silently prayed he hadn’t heard she just said.
“You know, this is the second time I’ve caught you two huddled together whispering,” he said. “I gonna get a little paranoid pretty soon so share.”
“It’s nothing, Xand,” Buffy said quickly, “it’s just a little girl gossip.”
“So,” the boy protested, “Willow’s been treating me like a girl for years. There isn’t anything I haven’t heard. Spill.”
“Xander, there’s just some things you don’t need to know,” Willow said with a look at Buffy. As she spoke, the bell rang and the three started to walked toward their classrooms. The redhead looked at Xander as they walked. “I do not treat you like a girl.”
“Will, when we were ten you always wanted to braid my hair.”
“Oh, yeah.”
******
Faith waited around her motel room until late afternoon before thinking about venturing out to the library. She didn’t want to seem too anxious about seeing the older slayer again. The only thing that bothered her right now was that they didn’t get to finish what they had started when Joyce had come home.
After pacing around the room for a few hours, she finally decided to leave the motel and walk around until she thought it would seem like the right time to go to the library. She wandered through the streets, trying to avoid the cemeteries but also trying not to edge toward the library.
After walking for about an hour, Faith decided to give up and just head for the library. She wanted to talk to Giles and most importantly, see Buffy. She also was getting a little hungry and was running low on cash.
“Have to do an odd job or something,” she mumbled to herself, secretly hoping she could grab some food at the blonde’s house before they went patrolling later.
She had no idea what was going on in Buffy’s head right now. Faith kept sensing the ‘I’m straight’ signals coming from the blonde, but she was also being kissed by her now, too. All the thinking about it was giving her a headache and she knew she was going to have to have a serious talk about it with Buffy tonight.
Faith reached the school soon enough, walking quickly through the halls. She tried desperately to avoid any adult in the school, mostly because she wouldn’t know what to say if any of them asked her why she was there. The principal would also be a problem: Buffy had a clear hatred for the man and Giles didn’t think much of him either. Thankfully, Faith knew the shortest way to the library and reached it without any distractions.
She pushed open the door to find it empty except for Giles, who was sitting behind the counter. He looked up from a book and smiled.
“Faith,” he greeted, “the others are still in their last class for the day. I didn’t expect you for some time.”
Faith looked at the clock and frowned. “Oh, I thought they would be done and gone by now.” She paused and put her hands in her pockets. “I guess I’ve gotten out of sync with the whole school schedule.”
Giles nodded and walked out from behind the counter as Faith walked over to a table and sat down. “You know, I don’t see why you can’t just enroll here. You could take some classes, learn something. You’d be a junior, right?”
Faith nodded once then shook her head. “Don’t like school, Giles. Besides, I don’t have a guardian or a actual address, so that kinda stands in my way.”
“Those things can be easily remedied,” Giles said as he sat down across from the young slayer. “If you want to be technical, I’m your guardian and finding you a real place to stay would be very easy.”
The brunette furrowed her brow at him, not really knowing or liking where this was going. “What do you mean?”
Giles cleared his throat. “Buffy’s mother called me this morning. She doesn’t like you living in that motel and I have to agree with her. We’ve decided you’ll stay with me until we can think of something better.”
“We decided?” Faith stared at him, trying to keep a level head. “Where was I in this decision, Giles? I don’t like other people deciding what’s best for me. I know what’s best for me.”
“Faith,” the older man sighed, “do you really like staying in that motel?” The brunette shook her head and he continued. “I thought not. You probably don’t have much money left either and I don’t want to know what you’d do to get money, illegal or otherwise.”
“Did you just call me a whore or a thief?” Faith asked with a scowl, starting to become angry with her watcher. “I just want to know before I kick a little watcher ass.”
“Calm down,” Giles gestured toward Faith to keep her seated, “that’s not what I meant. Still, you’re running out of money, aren’t you?”
Faith only nodded.
“Fine, you’ll check out of that place and move into my spare room. We’ll try it out for a couple days and then we’ll see about school.”
“School? Faith’s going to school?”
The watcher and slayer turned to see Buffy and Willow walking through the library doors.
“No,” Faith scowled over at Giles, “I’m not going to school. But because of Giles and B’s mom’s brainstorming, I’m moving in with Giles.”
“You are?” Buffy looked at Faith curiously. “Giles?”
“Yes, we thought it was best,” Giles said easily, standing up and taking a couple steps toward the two girls. “The only other alternative was that she stayed with you, Buffy, but we didn’t know if you two would want that.”
“I’m fine with that,” Buffy said, almost a little too eagerly. Faith stifled a laugh behind Giles and Willow turned away quickly to avoid a blush.
“Oh,” Giles said in a slightly confused voice, “I guess I could get your mother on the phone and talk to her about that.”
Faith walked up to Giles and slapped him on the back. “You might want to do that, Giles, or who knows? I might want to have slumber parties or talk to you about boys or... other girl things.”
The watcher suddenly got flustered. “Yes, well, I’m off to call the gallery,” he muttered before walking quickly into his office.
The three girls laughed as Willow turned to Faith. “You’re really good at that. Better than Buffy, even.”
“Yeah, I think it’s a hidden slayer talent,” Faith laughed. “B, do you think your mom’ll make me go to school?”
Buffy nodded. “Probably, but it’s really not that bad. You can hang out with us.”
“Yeah, I like going to school,” Willow put in and was met with stares from the two other girls. “What? I do.”
“You’re forgetting one thing there, Red,” Faith said as she sat back down, “I’m a year younger than you and not all that bright. I’ll probably be riding the short bus.”
“That’s not true,” Buffy said, sitting next to her. “You know what? Let’s think about that when the time comes. Right now, enjoy your freedom ‘cause once you move, it’ll be nothing but curfews and ‘where are you going?’ all the time.”
The three talked quietly at the table until Giles came out of his office. All three looked at him intently.
“It’s settled, Faith will stay in Joyce’s spare room,” Giles paused while Faith and Buffy high-fived, “and I’ll get papers from the council that’ll make me your guardian.”
“Why not Mrs. S?” Faith asked. She would much rather have the blonde’s mother as her guardian. She figured she would probably be more easygoing than the stuffy British man.
“I don’t think the council will approve,” the watcher said, “and I’m not going to tell them where you’re staying. They won’t like that either. They don’t approve of the influences on Buffy here and wouldn’t want the same for you.”
“Cool by me,” the brunette leaned back in her chair, “when do I move?”
“Go right now and get your stuff together,” Giles said, “Joyce will be by in a couple hours to pick up everything.”
“I’ll help her,” Buffy volunteered, “Will, we’ll talk later, okay?”
“Sure thing,” Willow said casually. “Have fun.”
******
The two slayers walked to Faith’s motel in silence, neither of them knowing really what to say. When they finally reached the room, Faith couldn’t take it anymore and pulled Buffy into the room almost forcefully. She wrapped her arms around the girl, giving her a tight hug.
“What’s this for?” Buffy asked, smiling against the brunette’s shoulder.
“For having such a cool mom,” Faith answered and released the smaller girl. She walked over to her bags and start to pack everything up. The blonde started to help but Faith stopped her. “B, we need to talk.”
Buffy looked at her curiously. “About what?”
“Us, this,” Faith clarified, “I need to know where I stand here.”
“I don’t really know,” Buffy sighed. She didn’t want to have this conversation right now, mostly because she had no idea what to say. “It’s complicated.”
“I know it is,” the brunette said, “but you have to give me something. I’m not good with these things. I’m not good at waiting.”
“I like going out with you,” Buffy admitted, “and I really like kissing you. It’s just... I don’t know what to do.”
“Well, you have to do something, B,” Faith said. “I hate feeling this way. I want you to be my girlfriend, but I’m still getting all these straight vibes from you. So are you?”
Buffy looked down and thought for a second, not wanting to meet Faith’s intense stare. After a minute, she looked up at the brunette again and smiled a little.
“Could you just give me some time?” she asked quietly. “Can we just go out a few times and not think about all that? I mean, we have plenty of time. We’re gonna be living together now.”
Faith smiled. “Yeah, I guess we are.” She moved over and wrapped her arms around the older slayer once again. She kissed her gently before pulling away and continuing to pack her things.
Just when they were done, someone knocked on the door. Faith walked over to the door and opened it to find Joyce standing there expectantly.
“Faith, I can’t believe we’ve let you stay here as long as we have,” she said, walking into the room and looking around. “No one should have to stay here if they can help it.”
“It’s not that bad,” Faith shrugged, “I’ve been in worse places.”
“Well, not anymore,” Joyce said strongly, “I straightened up the guest room and you can stay as long as you want.”
“Thanks, Mrs. S,” Faith smiled.
Buffy grabbed Faith’s things and moved to go out the door. “Well, let’s get home. I actually need to get some studying done before patrol.”
“Okay,” her mother agreed, “Faith, go check out and we’ll meet you outside the office.”
Faith only nodded and walked over to the office without a word. The mother and daughter watched her go before Joyce turned to Buffy.
“Buffy, I hope you’re okay with this,” she said easily, “I know you’re not good with sharing.”
“I can share,” Buffy protested, “I’m the one who said she should stay with us. She and Giles would be at each other’s throats within hours.”
“Mm-hmm,” was the only response the elder Summers gave as they put Faith’s bags in the back of the car and got in. They drove over the office and stopped just as Faith walked out. She grinned at them and hopped in the back seat.
“Can’t say I’m sad to see this place go,” she said, leaning in between the front seats, “and I have a whole five dollars left.”
“I thought you had more money than that,” Buffy turned to face her, curious. Their faces were just a few inches apart and Buffy got distracted for a moment. Faith just smirked at her and lifted her eyebrows.
“What can I say? I was running a tab,” the brunette smiled, licking her bottom lip just enough for the older girl to notice. The blonde blushed slightly and Faith chuckled.
“Well, you won’t need to pay for rent, Faith,” Joyce put in as she started to drive and pulled out of the parking lot, “and I’m sure we can think of some sort of allowance system for you, either from myself or from Giles. All teenage girls need a little spending money.”
“Cool,” Faith responded, sitting back as the vehicle drove to the Summers’ home.
The rest of the drive was spent in mostly silence, Joyce doing most of the talking. Faith was still trying to wrap her head around the fact she was going to live with Buffy. She sat back listening to Joyce and looking at the back on Buffy’s head, trying to figure out how she was going to date the blonde now if they lived in the same house.
******
“So Faith’s going to live here?” Xander asked as himself, Willow and the two slayers sat in the living room of Buffy’s house.
“Yeah,” Faith looked at Xander and winked, “sweet deal, huh?”
Xander started to stammer and Willow laughed. “Uh-huh, and this means you have to go to school now, right?”
“The subject hasn’t come up yet,” Faith answered, “and I really hope it doesn’t.”
“It will. Mom and Giles are in cahoots,” Buffy grinned. “Face it, Faith: you will be going to Sunnydale High very, very soon.”
“No one better help that outcome,” Faith stated, putting her feet on the coffee table, “I will seriously give anyone who does a major hurtin’.”
The three teens laughed at the comment and a couple seconds later Joyce came into the room. The mother looked around the room and smiled.
“Faith, honey, your feet do not belong on the coffee table,” she said as the three other teens laughed at the brunette slayer. “Willow, Xander, the two of you are welcome to stay for dinner.”
Willow looked from one slayer to the other then to Joyce. “Thanks Mrs. Summers, but I have other plans.”
“Yeah, thanks but I’m meeting up with Cordy,” he said. “Actually, I should probably head out right now. I don’t want her to yell at me more than she already does.”
Willow laughed. “I’ll walk with you.” She got up with Xander and looked down at Faith and Buffy. “We’ll see you two later tonight, right? The Bronze. The Dingoes are playing.”
“Sure thing, Will,” Buffy said. “See ya.”
“Bye,” Faith mumbled. She didn’t look all too pleased the blonde had agreed to go out with the others later. The two friends left and Joyce looked at the two slayers.
“I’ll start dinner in a little while,” she said. “Buffy, make sure Faith’s all settled in.”
“Sure, Mom,” Buffy smiled and watched her mom go into the kitchen before jumping over to couch with Faith. “What’s up? Your mood went all not good.”
“B, couldn’t we go out just the two of us tonight? I wanna keep spending some alone time with you.”
Buffy put an arm around Faith. “Well, you’re alone with me right now.”
Faith smiled. “I like you taking the lead.” She paused. “You know, your mom said you’re supposed to get me settled in. I know just what would get me settled.” She waggled eyebrows at the older girl.
“Funny,” Buffy gave her a sarcastic look and pulled them both to their feet. “Come on, lets make sure you put all your stuff away.”

“Pancakes?”

“Have fun.”
