Chapter Three
"Foolish Guide!" The Power's associate boomed down at her. "You are NOT to get attached to the vampire! What possible explanation do you have for doing what you did?"
She looked up at the wavering, angry figure. She licked her suddenly dry lips quickly, and her body shivered. "Sir, your Grace, uh- he is doing his mission half for the girl whose mask I wore. He thinks he made love to her, not me."
The creature mused, "So you have given him a reward for his efforts thus far? It is a high reward." It geared its eyes back to the small figure smilingly up nervously at him.
"Precisely, sir. Your Grace, you are aware that his journey shall be almost impossible to fufill, and very difficult. Sacrifices WILL be made." She regained some of her wavering composure. "Some...will most harsh on him."
"Oh, the girl? Yes, I see. He may even have to give that up for his redemption."
She nodded grimly. "Exactly. While his efforts are the best amorous, he must do this for himself alone. Love will come later."
The creature turned to fade away, but stopped to turn back to the guide. "We know your thoughts, Guide. We know you wish to be with the vampire. However, if you start to show signs of the thing you are forbidden to do, we will not hesitate to separate you from him and the Powers by means of mortality. Do I make myself clear? The penalties for what you wish to do are very harsh."
The Guide nodded sullenly. "I understand, Sir."

Spike groaned, and opened his eyes. Suddenly, his crazed mind took in his surroundings.
"Holy Shit!"
