Chapter Four

Buffy made her way through the vineyard at the Mission. It was pretty and quiet here. There were lots of nice flowers around. Buffy stopped to sniff a pink rose bush.

“The whore of Babylon dares to walk on holy ground,” Caleb said from behind her. Buffy stiffened, spinning about to face the false preacher.

“I hear you have something of mine. Well, I’m here to take it back.”

Caleb laughed at her, “You can try.” He tried to hit her, but she ducked. Buffy was very careful to avoid each of his blows. She knew how strong he was. She could see that he was trying to keep her from entering a doorway that led inside the Mission. Buffy knelt down quickly and grabbed up handfuls of dirt. She threw them at Caleb’s face, temporarily blinding him. She ran past him and inside the Mission. There was a huge wooden bolt for the door and she quickly slid it in place while Caleb raged outside. He threw his weight against the door, but it wouldn’t budge.

Buffy looked around quickly. She easily found the tapestries Spike had told her about. She could see the story. It was a story of a woman in a white dress. She was wearing an amulet and carrying a large silver scythe. She seemed to be using it to defeat an army of monsters. Buffy reached out a hand, gently feeling the ancient fabric. As she moved further down the hall, she found that some of the tapestries had been half eaten by an old fire. Half the story was missing.

Buffy found a doorway that led downstairs, deep beneath the Mission. There were lots of old tombs. But way off, in the center of the large underground cavern, Buffy could see one coffin up on a pedestal. She went to it and used all her Slayer strength to push the lid open.

Faith led the SIT’s underground. They were in a sewer and the girls were complaining of the smell. They seemed to walk for miles in the smelly underground until they came to a large wooden crate. Faith said, “That’s it!” Hurriedly, she went to open it, her eyes widening as she saw the trap. The bomb exploded.

Buffy took the amulet off the old dried up corpse. Hidden in the folds of its tattered old dress was the scythe. Buffy could feel the power emanating off both of the ancient weapons. The amulet was warm and the scythe was almost vibrating in her hands.

“The two cannot be as one.”

Buffy spun about at the sound of the woman’s voice, but there was no one there.

“Hello?”

“Two Champions,” the voice whispered.

“The amulet has to be worn by someone else?” Buffy spoke looking wildly about the room and seeing no one.

“Yesssssss.” The voice faded away.

“Now, don’t ya just hate that. Not even a kiss goodbye.” Caleb stood behind Buffy.

“Kiss this!” Buffy swung the Scythe and chopped off Caleb’s head.

Faith and Kennedy made their way back to the house. Both of them were wounded and bleeding badly. All of the remaining SIT’s were dead. Willow and the others were shocked. “Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to get rid of Buffy,” Andrew said. “Shut up,” Dawn told him, then turned to Willow and Giles. “We need Buffy.”
