Chapter 33
Slayage
Faiths POV
I take one last long pull on my cigarette. Pulling the smoke back in my lungs and let the nicotine make my head go slightly fuzzy. Then I flick it across the garden. I roll my head back to get the full effect of blowing the smoke out into the diminishing light as the sun sets along the horizon.
The night brings with it its unique smell putting my body in fight mode. I’ve needed to kill something for hours but that slight smell in the air stops me being able to wait any longer. “Gotta go Xander.” I say heading for the back gate.
“Hey you can’t go Faith.” He’s taken a few steps towards me as if going to stop me.
“How are you going to stop me exactly?” I turn my head to him with my hand on the catch ready to go.
“I mean…” Queue the back tracking. “You’re coming back right?”
I open the gate “Yes I’m coming back. Just need to get my slay on that’s all.”
He nods I think he gets it. “Be careful yeah.”
I’m halfway out the gate but manage to shout before I’m out of earshot. “It’s my middle name Xand.”
I stalk around the first cemetery on my hit list on full alert. I’m prowling like a cat around all the headstones. I peep around a large headstone I guess it’s about seven feet tall to see the three vamps that are coming out of a mausoleum.
I stay where I am for a second to study them and to make sure no more of them are going to come out of the mausoleum. The first vamp has long brown hair and a big square face. He is wearing some sort of old style clothes, tights and puffy pant things. Why can they not go along with the fashion of the day?
The second vamp dresses much like Spike, long black leather jacket, black jeans and a black t shirt. His hair is light brown and shaved into a skin headed look.
The third vamp is a girl, she couldn’t have been more than 15 when she was sired, and she’s wearing some slutty PVC skirt thing and a tiny white tank top that doesn’t cover her belly button.
I come out from behind my hiding place and stand in the middle of the small clearing where they are standing.
“Hey guys… how’s it hanging?” I ask putting my hands on my hips and smirking at them.
They all turn to me and the girl makes a hissing sound like a cat that’s about to pounce.
“Little girls shouldn’t be walking around on their own at night in a town like this…” The vamp dressed like Spike says.
“Good thing I’m not a little girl then.” Old habits die-hard. Banter is fun though.
I walk further into the clearing and the first vampire. The one in very old clothing begins to circle me. Sizing me up. Without a doubt he’s the ringleader. “Not a little girl.” My eyes don’t follow him but my other senses do. I can feel his every movement as if I were watching him cause nothing’s going to happen here without his say so. “A little slayer whose lost her way in the night.”
“Oh great a poetic vampire. All I need.” Can we fight now?
He comes back into my line of sight. “I do try.” His fist is stopped less than an inch from my face by my block. And it’s on. His other hand comes up like lightening and connects with my ribs making me fly into a nearby headstone. Lucky shot. I hit the hard stone and both the speed and my body weight makes me flip over the stone and land on my back.
I get to my feet and dust myself off. After jumping over the stone, I roll my shoulders making them click slightly. Really should have warmed up before coming out here. “Now I’m pissed.” I bring back my fist and land a powerful punch to his stomach making him double over. I take his face while he is still in this position and throw it downwards into my bent up knee.
He stumbles to his feet clutching his nose. Genuinely surprised that I managed to land that last hit. He growls at me through his extra long teeth. “Do you know how many slayers I’ve killed?” He gets out between growls.
“Don’t really care.” I spin on the ball of one of my feet and bring my other to shoulder height. Him being shorter means it connects with his ear.
He falls to the floor clutching his now bleeding ear. And turns to his lackeys who up until now have just stood and watched the fight and shouts. “Don’t just stand there. Kill her.”
They nod stupidly and start to advance. The big guy with the leather jacket goes to strike me first. I catch his fist in the palm of my hand and use his body weight to swing him around pulling his arm up behind his back. Holding his hand right up to the back of his neck.
The female vampire then comes towards me. She’s defiantly a fledgling. How do I know? Simple. While she was running towards me I pulled out my stake and she ran into it.
Time for Billy Idol here. I throw his arm away from me effectively releasing him. Somehow I manage to get one of his arms from his jacket. Don’t ask me how, just one of those things I guess. He practically rips the other side from his body throwing it to the floor. “Temper, temper.” I say. This actually infuriates him more.
He comes at me managing to land a blow right on one of my fresh bruises from holier then thou Buffy Summers. I land a hard kick to his ribs in retaliation. I think I broke one. Oops. While he’s clutching his side I land a hard punch right into the middle of his face breaking his nose as well. He lands on his back from the force and I plunge a stake into his heart and turn to face the Lestat wannabe.
And he’s gone. Great I only staked the last one cause I thought I was going to get more of a fight.
I pick up the leather jacket from the last vampire. Spike has had to do without lately. He refused to go out and buy one. Something about it needing to come from a kill or something. Hopefully this will do him for now. It is from a kill. Just not someone he killed.
I move on from this cemetery and try to find more action around the other shit loads of cemeteries in the city.
After five whole empty graveyards I am getting rather pissed off. I need more fight!
I walk from the middle of the sixth cemetery to go to the gate, ready to walk to the next. I hear a scream from the other gate opposite the one I am walking towards. I run towards the sound and find the Lestat wannabe holding a woman by the throat.
“Yo! Fang how’s Louis and Claudia they tried to burn or drown you recently?” Not my best banter ever but it got his attention. He lets the woman go and she falls to the floor with a thump.
He hisses at me. “I told you that you shouldn’t be around at night alone slayer.” He says advancing on me.
“Don’t you worry yourself, I can take care of myself.” I say striking a fighting stance.
He runs at me and we start to exchange blows. I duck and block all his punches until he lands a lucky shot on my ribs, which hurts like fuck since Buffy broke a few of them.
I pull back from him for a second before really going for it, kicking and punching and lunging at him.
He looks down at the woman who is still on the floor.
“You aint getting none of that tonight.” I say, he glances around quickly then begins to run away. “Fucking chicken!” I shout before throwing a stake at him... guess my aim is still perfect and I haven’t lost any power. I have a slight problem, stakes don’t tend to go through stone walls. He rounds the corner of a mausoleum before it can connect with him and it smashes against the wall. Won’t be using that one again unless I can kill a vamp with a splinter.
I look down at the woman still on the floor. She gets up and looks at me with gratitude in her eyes.
“Thank you so much, you saved my life… how can I ever repay you? What was that thing?” Ahh great, all the good questions.
“Are you okay? Can you get home okay?” I ask surveying her for any damage.
“I’m just a bit shaken up I think…” She says dusting herself off.
“Well, be careful and try not to go out alone at night okay?” I say turning to walk away.
“It’s not going to come back is it?” She asks. I turn back towards her. “Can we go for a coffee or something, I don’t think I can be alone for a while and it’s still a bit dark… I’m just a bit…” She doesn’t finish the sentence.
“Alright but you’re buying, I aint got no money on me.” I say with a smile.
We walk for a while until we find a twenty four hour café. We go in and order two coffees then sit in a booth by the window slowly drinking them. She looks a bit disapproving at how much sugar I have in it. I’m being polite I only had three. Besides I don’t care, not like I ever have to see her again.
“So what was that thing?” She asks after taking a sip.
“Long story short, it was a vampire, vampires and demons exist they try to destroy the world and there are some people who are here to fight them and stop them…” I put some more sugar into the coffee and stir the spoon around in the brown liquid. Will she quit it with those looks? Starting to wig me out, woah picking up on Willow speak.
“So that was a vampire, he sucks blood?” She asks sounding genuinely surprised… how stupid are people, she lives on a hell mouth and hasn’t noticed all the demonic activity.
We sit for a while longer, I tell her how to protect herself and again tell her not to go out at night.
It gets light outside and I decide I better get back to the house I’ve been gone for about ten hours, Willow will be pissed if I don’t make an appearance soon, or maybe she is still pissed that I threw her across the room?
“Well I better go, it’s light now so you will be safe.” I say getting up out of my seat.
The woman holds her hand out to me. “Thank you so much…” She stops as if to ask my name.
“Faith.” I say reaching for her hand.
“Kathy.” She replies. As our hands meet I get a sickly sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Must just be the after slay hunger. I leave the café and start to walk the ten miles back to the house.
