Gettting to know the neighborhood

Buffy and her family had been back a week, they were currently housed in the old guest house that Xander and Horus were working to make a home for Buffy and Lonnie.

The simple two story house seemed to fascinate Lonnie and the children to no end. And Buffy smiled at the memory of coming in from lunch with Giles to find the three holed up in the bathroom, Lonnie holding a long metal spoon, tentatively pulling the flush on the toilet. Buffy hadn’t been able to hold a laugh in after watching the three repeat the action three times, jumping in fascination and shock every time.

Walking through the door she stopped to see her nieces and nephews wrestling with Jaeger and Axel on the floor of her living room while Raya who had taken an instant liking to Lonnie was sitting at the kitchen table calmly teaching Lonnie her letters.

Buffy smiled and watched the pair continue without looking up at her. Finally when her mate looked up an happily held up a flashcard with the letter ‘P’ on it.

“I know this one Buffy. I have all the letters up to this one.” Buffy smiled at the enthusiasm in Lonnie’s voice. The obvious joy on her mates face was becoming a rare occurrence. She knew the cavewoman felt out of place. Back home she had had status, a place in the village. Here she was a stranger and Buffy knew what that was like.

Walking over to her mate she sat down and listened as Raya calmly held up the ‘Q’ card and sounded out the letter for Lonnie.

Leaning her head on her mates shoulder she felt strangely at peace. They were home, after so long they were finally home.

Raya left the Summers household an hour later, walking through her own doorway she stopped in shock when she saw Skye standing in the kitchen. She had been missing for a week. And now here she was.

“Skye…where have you been?” She asked softly. Noting the slumped set to her daughter’s shoulders, she sniffed softly and could tell that the fever was broken, it was still present but it wouldn’t be as maddening as it had been.

“I’ve been with the tiger.” Skye bit out. Raya frowned, whenever she had referred to the stranger as anything other than Ryan Skye had nearly had a fit…now here she was doing the same thing?

“What happened?”

“I think there are some things that are better left unsaid between a mother and her child” Skye said before piling leftovers onto a plate and slipping it into the microwave.

“Skye…please talk to me.”

“What no punishment? Usually this is your favorite part…telling me what i did wrong and how I endangered the pack. I’ve been gone for days mother for all you know I could have screwed every were from here to Canada.” Skye bit back tears…almost wishing that was true instead of the cold rejection in Ryans voice.

“I’m worried about you Skye. You’re my child I just want to know if you’re alright.” Raya studied the girl’s features. She looked so much like Faith it was uncanny sometimes.

“I’m fine…five by five even.” Skye muttered taking her plate she turned and went up to her room. Raya held back reprimanding her for taking the food to her room and sat down.

‘What the fuck did that cat do to her?’ She was furious for her child. She didn’t know what happened and she didn’t really care, all she knew was her baby girl was hurting over something. And she couldn’t help her.

Turning when she saw Brigitte walk into the room. “Sister sad” the little cub said seriously. Raya nodded and held out her arms. Watching as her daughter walked over to her and let her pull her into her lap. She may not be able to protect them all but there were still some that let her comfort them.

Sighing she looked up as Faith herded there sons into the living room and gave her a look before continuing on.

Lonnie watched as Jaeger raced and wrestled Faiths oldest son, David. It was a strange name but the boy was determined not to lose to a girl... Lonnie smiled at her daughter when she once again achieved pinning the boy under her.

The boy was by all means stronger and faster but Jaeger had grown up in a village of hunters and unlike these boys who had only been training for a year or so she had been learning to fight since she had come to the village.

Smiling as Jaeger stood triumphantly and helped David stand….looking over to Axel who was running away from Faith and Rays youngest. An adorable little black haired girl who seemed to take Axels look of fear as a game.

Lonnie smiled, Axel hadn’t ever been good with strangers and the little girl was slightly overbearing at times. Laughing when Axel tripped and Brigitte finally caught him.

She looked over and saw a tall slender girl standing off to the side staring into space. She hadn’t met the girl yet but she knew it was Faiths oldest. She had overheard and understood a little of Faith telling Buffy she was worried about the girl.

She couldn't understand the rest of the words but looking the girl over she could tell the child wasn’t in a friendly mood.

Standing she walked over to the girl, plopping down beside the brunette she smiled at the look of surprise on the attractive teenagers face.

“Hallo. I am Lonnie” Lonnie held out her hand, she had leaned this was a greeting custom. The girl looked at it and grudgingly shook the woman’s hand.

Skye studied the strange woman that had returned with Aunt B, she was beautiful. Her red dreads were woven together and she seemed to love Buffy. Skye could smell it on her whenever Buffy was near the woman.

Smiling she shook the woman’s hand, holding back at giggle at the outright look of delight on the woman’s face.

“You have kids?” Lonnie asked. When the girl’s eyes widened she worried she had once again made a social blunder.

“No…im…not yet.” Skye stumbled over the words and smiled at the friendly woman.

“I have…two? That is the word yes?” Skye nodded and Lonnie smiled and turned her attention back to the group of children rolling around playing together.

Skye watched Buffy smile and step away from the ‘Scooby’s’ and make her way over to Lonnie. Sitting down beside the redhead Skye suddenly felt like a third wheel and stood up and left. She didn’t really want to be at this little get together but Faith had all but threatened her to get her to at least make an appearance.

Sighing she walked into the house and up the stairs into her room, stopping in shock when she realized she had a visitor.

“Remy?” Skye asked softly, looking around wondering how the hell he got onto the property without any of them knowing.

“Sunflowers.” Skye frowned in confusion. ‘What was the kid talking about?’

“What?” she asked stupidly. Remy sighed and copied a stance that Skye had seen Ryan take many times.

“Ryan. She likes sunflowers. That is …if you still want to try.” Before she could say anything back he turned and climbed out her window and leapt down and ran the familiar path she took whenever she snuck off the grounds.

‘Sunflowers huh?’

****************************

Buffy gently cradled her sleeping son; carrying him up the stairs she studied his face. She smiled at the long lashes and his antics. After nearly an hour and a half of being terrorized by Brigitte he had climbed a tree and stayed up there until the child had to give up her pursuit.

Tomorrow the three newcomers had appointments with Vikki, the schools nurse. They were getting there shots and vaccinations. She knew Lonnie had a vague idea of what it was but she knew once Lonnie realized full well what it was she was going to be pissed.

So while they were getting vaccinations Buffy had a surprise of her own coming.

‘Really hope that wife of mine likes it.’
