Chapter Thirty-Three

Spike’s POV

I look over at Faith and see her being comforted by Lorne and feel a twinge of guilt. Oh bloody hell, I am not going to turn into my broody Sire over this. It is not my fault they broke up, sure it might have been a little sooner because of me but if he can’t accept that she has blood on her hands then it was bound to happen at some stage. There is a knock on the door and then Riley walks through.

“Hey guys, I know I’m early for the service but have I got the lead for you or what.”

“What have you found?” Asks Oz, for once Angel is keeping his trap shut and letting the others ask the questions.

“Where a quarter of the Scourge of Europe is hanging out.”

“Drusilla, where?” I ask, yes finally, we can find her and have the big death scene and then it will all be over. I am sick of thinking is this the time where she will die? Am I going to feel the unbearable pain of our link being severed tonight? I know that what she has done is inexcusable and she is evil and so therefore needs to be dust. It doesn’t mean that I have stopped loving her and I need it over so that I can move on.

“She’s been seen entering a property owned by your former bosses.”

“You mean that they have been helping her the whole time we had control of the LA branch?” asks Lorne.

“Why would they do that? I mean that it was their lawyers she ate last time round.” Gunn asks and Riley moves to the desk where he hands me a folder. A photo slips out; one of those surveillance type photos and it is definitely my dark princess.

“I don’t think she has been there the whole time. The back door out onto the patio shows signs of forced entry but as it is on the twentieth floor, no one has payed any attention. It might be all coincidence; it was how we found her. After the information Gunn gave us, many of the higher lawyers who escaped before you took on the Black Thorn are in custody and we have been trying to get idea of how many properties Wolfram and Hart own in La and who is in them.”

“I don’t care how she was found I’m just glad that she has been tracked down, now how do we get her?” Angel asks, he still has his hand on my thigh and his thumb is making circular patterns on my leg. I don’t think he even knows that he is doing it but it is driving me crazy. I really can’t wait until I can get both him and Xander into bed.

“Well there is the good old storm in and stake her method which I really don’t have a problem with, I need a good slay.” Faith’s words remind me of Buffy; maybe the two of them could never get along because they are so alike.

“If we have her surrounded then, there is no chance she can get away. Who’s going to go in through the balcony?” Andrew looks gleeful at the chance of going through that way. How the hell would that work? Its not like we have Mission Impossible gear.

“I think this time it should be superpowers only. Drusilla may be only one vampire but she is definitely dangerous. However, with the other slayers out there we will definitely have enough power.” So much for Angel letting the others help formulate the plan. I think the silly poof just realised he was telling them what to do but before he can say something Lorne intervenes.

“I agree, anyway Andrew you, Gunn and Xander need to speak tonight and we should go through that.” I look over at Gunn and see him grimace a little; it must be hard for him being the only human AI member left.

“I can’t wait to see if this vampire creature dusts any differently to the numerous others of your specie I have already killed. When are you going to transport me to this creatures lair?” I try not to get angry at Illyria for the way she talks about my Dark Goddess. Across my mind a montage of images form about Drusilla. Her childlike wonder of the stars she could see even though we were under a roof in the middle of the day. Her, over me, riding my cock, staring into my eyes for once focusing only on me. Outside in a park, feasting on blood, demon to the fore, blood dripping off her chin.

“Spike.” The soft-spoken word cuts through the memories and I look around Angel’s office, bewildered. Only Angel and Xander are there, where did everyone go? And then I realise that silent tears are dripping down my cheeks. They both slide up to sit on the desk with me, one of each side and I’m suddenly struck with the thought that physically I am the smallest of the three of us as the other two have a bigger build than me.

“Its okay, childe.” Angel’s softly spoken words with a hint of an Irish brogue in them compel me to look at him and I am comforted by the fact that I’m not the only one who has tears in there eyes. I lean against Angel and Xander hugs me from the other side. The three of us just sit there, not saying anything. The silence is comforting and sitting there surrounded by the two of them I realise that it is all going to be okay. As long as I have these two we will get through whatever is thrown our way. I know that it won’t be easy and at some point we will want to give up but nothing will bring us down forever.

Sitting in the passenger seat of Angel’s penis metaphor of a car I steel myself for what is to come. I need to be strong and do what needs to be done. Beside me is Faith and in the backseat are Oz, Illyria and Conner. I feel Faith squeeze my hand and it reminds me of how Xander did earlier. I can still hear the echoes of the words he whispered into my ear.

“She’s been crazy and tortured by visions for over a hundred years, you’ll be doing her a mercy. She will be painless and sane again.” The words spoken are all a lie but the sentiments are true. Xander was trying to ease my suffering and so told me a lie that he has probably whispered to himself on many sleepless nights about Anya. We both know where Dru is going, where Anya is, where Angel and I will eventually go. There is no peace and happiness in the after life for the likes of us but sometimes it is easier to lie to ourselves than admit it. We pull up at a modern apartment building on the crest of a hill so that it overlooks the rest of LA. At least my princesses last home have a view. I square my shoulders and jump out of the car. Its time I put my Big Bad armour on and lock all my feelings away. I light a cigarette and marvel that my hands are not shaking. Two other cars pull out behind us and I swagger over to join the last minute instructions.

“Listen up. Drusilla may be crazy but she is also extremely dangerous. She has killed two slayers in the last ten years, the only vampire or demon to have ever done such a thing. Do not look her straight in the eyes; she is quite practised at thralling her victims. Work in pairs and try to keep her distracted from focusing on any one person. Keep your eyes out for other demons; we don’t know what could be with her. Okay you know the plan, let’s go.” Faith rallies the troops and then we turn and everyone who was in Angel’s car starts to climb up the fire escape. While waiting to start climbing Faith turns to me.

“You okay?”

“Five by five.” I reply and she smiles at me using her own saying, I turn and run up the stairs ready to finish this. It puzzles me how I can’t feel Drusilla nearby, when we were together I could easily track her down but now it is so much harder. I can still smell her if I’m close enough but the physical pull I could always feel is gone. Maybe it has something to do with the soul because after Angel left or when we were creating havoc in Sunnydale I couldn’t feel him but now I can again. We reach the side of the building and I look down. Angel silently points out which balcony leads to Drusilla’s rooms and I scan the wall for anything that will help Faith and Oz scale down. Oh wait Oz has turned into werewolf form he should be able to get there the same way we will. The slayer should be able to climb down if she doesn’t want to jump. I watch my Sire jump down to the first balcony and then climb over the railing to jump to the next one that is down and to the right of the first one with his jacket streaming out behind him. I quickly drop off the building and follow him down admiring how graceful he is despite his frame, when he flows from apartment to apartment. Soon we are all gathered on Drusilla’s balcony, it is a tight fit. Luckily nobody brought swords and axes just crossbows and stakes. Oz is still in werewolf form and is charged with guarding the balcony to make sure no one jumps from here to the ground as it is a jump a vampire could make. I sneak a glance at Faith’s watch over her shoulder, twenty seconds to the time we agreed at to barge in. I can smell Drusilla, this is definitely her place and my vampire hearing can faintly pick up the sounds of someone singing but its too faint for me to know who it is or what they are singing. Angel gives the signal and there is no time for reflection as we smash through the glass doors into a room full of an assortment of demons and vampires. Shit, this is going to be harder than I thought. I launch myself at two and tackle them to the ground. The vampire is quickly staked and I flip to standing to immediately block a punch from the demon that took the moment I was staking the vampire to righten himself. I furiously trade blows, getting angrier and angrier as I do. Angry at Dru for putting me in this position where I have to stake my Sire, angry at myself for being angry at Dru as well as being angry at myself for feeling something towards a soulless killer. I’m also angry with Angel for insisting that Drusilla has to die and for making her a vampire in the first place. Laughing cuts through my rage, I coldly stake another vampire and turn around. Drusilla stands in the middle of the room in a long, white blood-splattered dress with Rona under one arm, her throat exposed. A quick glance around the room shows that everyone else is still fighting and it is a pretty tough fight for both sides. Looks like its up to me to save the day.

“What are you doing Dru?” I ask in the calm voice I used to always use when she was about to do something exceedingly crazy that would have resulted in her death.

“Sorry Spikey but the heart told me that I could be a real princess where everyone would give me exactly what I wanted and we could have tea parties and guts everyday. Then the baa baa black sheep didn’t have wool but gave me these lovely guards to make the nasty girls bleed and then the predator of the forest and mountains, the wolf, said that all I needed to do was to stop you and the nasty Angel beast by making a hat trick out of the rough Scottish Island.” With that insane dribble she bends down to bite a struggling, cursing Rona.
