Relinquishing the Past
In the past there would have been words.
Awkward attempts to reach out and touch without actually touching, hidden behind the guise of halfhearted, meaningless conversation.
Sometimes in frustration these clumsy endeavors would transform into harsh, clipped rebuffs meant to save face. Hurtful, snide retorts meant to wound, scar.
In the past there would have been sorrow, regret.
Silent, self flagellation for having said the wrong thing at the wrong time, or not having been able to say the right thing at the right time.
But here today, touch is enough, and the words and regret fade with the past.
