Doyle walked into Caritas with the Slayer on his arm and he couldn’t be more thrilled. Lorne ‘The Host’ was an old friend of his and he wanted Buffy to sing for him. After his encounter with Buffy a year ago he received a vision that made him question everything. So he was here to see if Lorne could confirm what he saw.
Buffys’ Slayer senses were off the charts, the karaoke club was crawling with demons ranging from your everyday Vampires to Aurorian demons. Doyle almost seemed to be in his element, as soon as they walked in he was saying hello to people and stopping to talk to many of the patrons.
Doyle led Buffy to a darkened corner of the club so as to avoid any confrontation even though there was a strict policy on no fighting, he still didn’t want to take a chance with the Slayer in a club full of demons. Just as Buffy was about to ask what they were doing there a green skinned demon with horns protruding from his forehead and charming smile on his face approached them.
“Doyle what are you doing here and who is the pretty little thing on your arm?” Lorne asked while Buffy blushed prettily from the comment.
The seer just smiled and grasped Buffys’ hand. He couldn’t wait to see if the visions he’d been having were right.
“Well I’m just her for a drink or two but the lass here, well she’s going to sing for ya”
At this Buffys’ eyes widened in horror, she couldn’t believe that Doyle had just volunteered her to sing in front of all these people. It wasn’t so much that she couldn’t sing it was just that she didn’t sing in front of other people.
“Well sweat pea, what do you feel like singing?”
“Uh, can I just not…I mean why am singing in the first place” her face a mixture of fear and confusion.
“Oh that’s because I can read souls, what the future holds for you that sort of thing…but you gotta sing” he said with a smile
Buffy made a sound similar to a whimper. As she was pushed toward the stage by Doyle, he knew that she was nervous but he just had to see…to know for sure. When Buffy finally took the stage the club became eerily silent. Doyle figured it was for either one of two reasons or even both; her beauty or because she was the Slayer. It was no secret in the underworld that even though the Slayer was deadly she an absolute beauty.
As he heard the first chords of the song he knew immediately why she chose the song. Angel was still apart of her past and would always be but this was a way to finally get the rest of the pain out.
Buffy knew from the start that her relationship with Angel was going to be difficult but she could never have predicted all the pain and heartache that had actually occurred. She wasn’t sure what exactly was going on between her and Doyle but she knew there was something there and she also knew that he felt it too.
Doyle never made it back to work that day, they spent the entire day with one another. First stop was for some coffee and they spent a few hours there just taking and really getting to know one another. As they were walking along Doyle suggested going to this club, they way he described it instantly had the Slayer intrigued.
So here she was in a demon karaoke club about to sing in front of a bunch a demons and other supernatural beings so one of them could read her soul.
I heard you're doing ok
But I want you to know
I'm a dick
I'm addicted to you
I can't pretend I don't care
When you don't think about me
Do you think I deserve this?
Though the song was originally a punk/ska type piece the little blondes’ melodic voice was able to make the song her own. Doyle knew that her feelings were slowly changing after their talk this afternoon he learned that her feelings for Angel were still there but they were not as prominent as before. He couldn’t explain but the moment he set eyes on the little blonde he felt something inside of him click, like they were suppose to be.
I tried to make you happy but you left anyway
At first Buffy had a little trouble getting started. She never did well when it came to singing in front of people. Cheerleading she could do, winning a crown and campaigning no problem, fighting demons a walk in the park but have her have to perform in front of an audience and she’d always come close to freezing up on the spot.
I'm trying to forget that
I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it
I'm addicted to you
Now it's over
can't forget what you said
and I never wanna do this again
Heartbreaker
Doyle looked on as she sang out all of her pain and frustration at the ‘Angel situation’ it was just a matter of time before it would have exploded. He knew she needed this, to help her move on, to move forward…to move toward him. The seer knew it was crazy to think so but he was pretty sure he was falling in love with the little blonde. He closed his eyes letting her voice wash over him, he just had a feeling of utter contentment when she was around and he knew that the feelings were mutual.
Since the day I met you
And after all we've been through
I'm still a dick
I'm addicted to you
I think you know that it's true
I'd run a thousand miles to get you
Do you think I deserve this?
Buffy looked everywhere but at her companion. This for her was in her own way of saying goodbye to Angel and letting go of the past. At first she thought it might have been too soon but now it just felt right. She felt connected to Doyle somehow and she wanted to explore that feeling but in order to do that she had to be free of her past.
I tried to make you happy
I did all that I could
Just to keep you
But you left anyway
How long will I be waiting?
Until the end of times
I don't know why I'm still waiting
I can't make you mine
As the song was coming to a close green eyes found blue and they locked. All the while Lorne watched from the sidelines, he couldn’t believe the connection these two shared. If he hadn’t seen it himself he would never had believed that Angels’ little Slayer wasn’t really his. He saw everything from the time Buffy was called to the months when Angelus roamed the night, he also saw Doyles’ past; his ex-wife all his mistakes and the path he took that led him here.
Everything was out in the open between the two of them nothing was hidden from him. As Buffy sang the last few lines of the song her eyes were still locked with Doyles’ and he knew what she had just said to him was true.
Heartbreaker
I'm addicted to you
Doyle just smiled because he knew that he was addicted to her too.
