The room they entered seemed to be an anteroom of sorts. Maybe a place to greet and entertain guests? It was decorated in colors of dark green and light purple, with furniture in dark wood and black leather. A three-seated sofa stood against the left wall between two small tables, each holding a vase of dark-colored roses. A round table with 4 chairs stood on a maroon rug slightly off the center of the room, the rug covered most of the hardwood floor. Two filled bookcases held up the right wall. An open doorway on the left led into a bedroom, on the right was a closed door.
Angelus led the gaping Xander into the next room, giving him no time to stay and gawk. The bedroom was decorated almost in the opposite to the previous room. The colors here went in dark purple and light green with hints of grayish blue and gold. A big four-poster bed in dark wood with purple and gold beddings silk maybe? stood on the wall furthest from the door, between two of the room’s windows. There was a battery-driven clock radio on the left bedside table. The surface of the right one held a small lamp.
A third window, a door actually, led out to a small balcony overlooking the mansion’s garden.
Heavy black drapes were ready to cover all the windows at the first sign of sunlight.
A dark-green loveseat and a small table stood before the big fireplace on the right wall.
The thick wall-to-wall carpet was a mish-mash of white, gray, gold and purple colors. It would feel wonderful on bare feet. A big wardrobe in dark wood was next to the balcony door.
Angelus walked towards it, opening the doors. Inside were a collection of male clothes; black and blue jeans, dark slacks, shirts, t-shirts, sweaters, a dark leather jacket and even two suits. Xander figured the drawers held underwear. There were also two pairs of tennis shoes, a pair of hiking boots and two pair of dress-shoes.
“This is for you. Everything should fit you but if not, let one of the servants know. Are you hungry? Thirsty? I could have something sent up for you. Do you want the fireplace lit? I’m not so much for fire but maybe you’re cold?”
Xander was watching the suddenly babbling vampire in front of him. Something told him this was not part of whatever plan was going on.
“Angelus? Calm down. I don’t want anything to eat or drink. Not yet anyway. I’m not cold either. The clothes, though? What’s up with that?”
“Oh. You’ll need something to wear while being here.”
“And how long am I to stay? I’ll be missed soon.”
Hopefully I’ll be missed. It’s not like Willow has been paying me much attention, what with her new status as Watcher Apprentice. Buffy is in her own little world and my parents don’t care what happens to me.
Xander suddenly felt tired and depressed. Here he was, held captive by a Master vampire and no one would think to look for him for a few days. A lot could happen in a few days.
“I’d like you to stay for a week, at least. After that you’ll be free to go if you still want to.” Angelus seemed composed again. At least he had stopped babbling. “It’s getting late, although it’s still early for me. I’ll leave you be for now.” Angelus moved into the anteroom followed by Xander.
“The servants will bring you breakfast in the morning. They are demons though; you’re the only human in residence for the time being. The closed door there leads to the bathroom.”
Angelus opened the door leading out. He showed Xander a key.
“I’m going to keep this door locked while you’re on your own in here. I also advice against leaving by the balcony. It’s a fair drop to the ground and my guards will be watching the garden.”
Angelus touched Xander’s forehead, pushing hair out of the way.
“Don’t worry. You’re not in danger. No one here will hurt you.”
Xander tried not to react to the unexpected caress.
“Then why am I here? Why are you being… nice… to me?” Xander really didn’t understand, although he had his suspicions.
“Tomorrow. I’ll answer your questions tomorrow night. Good night… Alexander.”
With that he closed and locked the door, leaving Xander on the inside.
