Hell Hath No Fury Than A Woman Scorned
Chapter 3
The wind howled through the woods as she ran, fear flashing through her eyes as she kept looking back at her chaser. She didn’t see the earth fall off the edge of her path until it was too late. She tumbled over the edge, her body tumbling in the air as she disappeared into oblivion. Her chaser watched from below as she was engulfed in the darkened flames of eternity.
She watched silently as people busily went upon their daily lives. The sun beating steadily on her ghastly pale skin, never warming it. It amazed her still, after 4 billion years, how simple it would be for her to just reach out and snap the neck of some human that walked by. She walked along the road, enjoying the feel of the ground under her feet, after a billion years in a different dimension; it felt good to be back home. “Even though it has changed since the last time I saw it” she thought, grimacing at a teen with spiky hair and a metal bar through his nose run past her. “I never thought I would say this but I miss the humans that ran around waving clubs” she muttered to herself as she watched a group of people the teen joined push through the crowded streets. “The last time I was here demons controlled humans, using them for our own gain then throwing them away. I should have never left that idiot of a demon in charge if anything happened to me” she grumbled, her eyes flashing yellow at the thought. She walked into the middle of the crowd, no one noticed to the leather clad warrior. “Stupid humans, still susceptible to simple mind tricks” she growled, gliding through like a predator. Her black coat swirled around her leather clad legs as she disappeared into the wind.
“What did you find Wills?” Buffy asked sitting next to her, sipping her coffee. Willow sighed as she rubbed the sore muscles in her neck. She didn’t get as much sleep as she hoped to. She woke up after realizing that Kennedy wasn’t next to her anymore. She looked up at Buffy, who was also massaging her neck, she had sat in the living room for three hours, holding the dagger, rose and not in her hands, staring at them like they were foreign objects. She had only broken out of her trance when she heard Willow ascend the stairs. She had run back up to her room and hid the dagger before Willow saw them. She didn’t know why but she felt as if Willow wasn’t supposed to know yet
“I‘ll tell you what I didn‘t find, Kennedy next to me when I woke up that‘s what” the redhead thought, looking at her best friend. “Well the thing is we never knew that the first evil wasn’t the first evil, so the whole ‘Oooh I’m the First bow and be afraid of me’ seems kinda pathetic right now” She said as she continued to type away at the computer. Buffy chuckled into her drink.
“That doesn’t answer my question Willow. We had such a hard time defeating the First, err second…whatever” she said exasperatedly. Willow smirked at her. “I need to know if this thing is the real deal. I mean if you say that this thing now is the first, then this thing has to be more than a millennia year old. How do we compete with that, we had such a hard time defeating the wanna-be” Buffy said quietly. Willow placed her hand over Buffy’s.
“If this is the first then I figure maybe a couple billion years old. And if I am right then there is no way that there is anything written down on this thing. At least the First had records, but this, this is pre-dating the slayer line, the council, written and spoken language. We are talking beginning of time type of deal here Buff” Willow said, shutting the computer down. Buffy sighed as she followed the redhead into the living room. She plopped down on the couch in a huff. She hadn’t told Willow yet about the two encounters with the “mysterious woman as she now has dubbed her. She wanted to give Willow a rest from all of the researching. Buffy smiled softly at her friend, glad that she had stuck around for as long as she did. “Thank you for being here Will” Buffy said, looking her friend straight in the eyes. Willow looked curiously over at her friend at the comment. She only said that when something was bothering her. “No prob Buffy you know I love ya but... “Willow said, pausing. . . “Buffy what is bothering you? Ever since you came home yesterday you have been spacing. What are you worried about?”
Buffy smiled and shook her head at her friend. “I was just hoping for some peace that lasted more than a few months” she said stretching out on the couch. She was also intrigued, wondering what this woman could want with her. “I wonder if it is human?” she thought, shaking her head as she answered her own question. “Stupid of course she isn’t human”.
Kennedy walked into the room; her pj’s stuck to her still damp body, a towel in her hair. She sat down on the recliner and pulled the leg rest up. Willow looked at her curiously. “Why isn’t her skin red” she thought as Kennedy met her gaze. She still had goose bumps from the cold shower. Kennedy smiled softly at Willow, knowing why she was getting the curious looks. Buffy smiled at them, glad that out of all the bad things that they had to go through in the past year they were still able find each other. A wave of sadness hit her as she thought back to all the loves she had in her life. Angel, she thought she would love him forever but that couldn’t happen. Looking back now she realized that although she thought she was totally in love, she was more in love with the thought of being in love. Riley, was boring even if she did love him. And Spike, she stopped remembering the final battle. She had finally told him she loved him, but he didn’t believe her. He became a great champion, and she admired his bravery, even when he had the chance to leave, he didn’t. She sighed, wondering if she ever going to be allowed to love without that love being undead or corn-fed. She chuckled and stretched her arms out, bringing Kennedy and Willow out of their haze. “It’s half-past nine now, how bout we all get out of these pj’s and head out for some breakfast. Maybe we’ll be able to figure out what is going on with some food in our stomachs” she said standing up.
“Yea and if we don’t, hey we are still fed” Kennedy piped in, smiling at Buffy’s grin. “Yup”, Buffy thought. “I am glad that we can still find happiness”.
The demon hung limp in the chains of what once used to be his dungeon. His blood pooled at his feet as he took shallow breaths. He may have been immortal, but it didn’t mean he couldn’t feel pain. His hair was matted to his face and his one eye was swollen shut. Numerous cuts and wounds dotted his body, slashing across the tattoos that adorned his skin. The rings that were in what used to be his ears were scattered across the room. He growled in pain, sensing the demon that did this to him enter the room. “Ronwe c’mon you are the demon of knowledge. Surely you can tell me what happened to this dimension” the demon said, her voice sickly sweet. Ronwe lifted his head painfully to look at her. “Amdis” he whispered venomously. “Wow I haven’t heard that name in over a billion years. Yes Amdis that is my name in this dimension. Lucifer gave it to me after I became a demon” she said, sitting down on a chair that appeared out of nowhere. She took off her black trench coat, letting it drape over the chair as she stared at Ronwe. “I was abnormally strong and fast. Hell I probably was the first slayer, but I had no choice in becoming a demon now, didn’t I Ronwe” she said, her eyes flashing black with gold specks. Ronwe gulped down, all his anger turned to fear. Lucifer had come to him, asking him to find someone who was strong enough to help mend any dimensional rifts that occurred at the beginning of the Reign of Demons, about 4 billion years. Lucifer had said to find someone who was willing to give up their life for this task, but Ronwe didn’t think it mattered, as long as his lord was pleased. He had attacked her village, when her name used to be Ardere, which meant fire, after her spirit. She made a pact with him to save her village, promising to give up her life as a human to help Lucifer, if and only if her village was left alone. Ronwe agreed and brought her to Lucifer, who was pleased at Ronwe‘s choice. He had graciously rewarded Ronwe with powers, bringing him as close to being a Noble as possible. Ronwe went back to Ardere’s village and killed everyone in sight with his new powers, enjoying the feel of them coursing through his body. “She will never know” he thought, never thinking that his cockiness would one day be his downfall.
Lucifer trained Ardere in all the martial arts ever known, since he created them all, taught her about life and death, everything he knew he passed to her. Her exposure to being in the demon dimension for so long was making her sick, even though it took her longer to succumb to the areas affect. Lucifer was afraid that his prized pupil would die so he turned her into a demon. Though it was a surprise to both Lucifer and Ronwe when she turned into a Noble, the highest form of demon, only the incarnates and gods were given that gift of immortality and power. She possessed all the powers that Lucifer had and some of her own. She had control over lesser demons and the dimensional rifts and was able to dimension hop without the boring rituals and sacrifices. Lucifer was quite taken with her, making her his queen and giving her a new name Amdis, meaning immortal. She had spent the next three billion years reigning over the demon realms with Lucifer and Ronwe, who was their prime advisor. Over the years she slowly lost her humanity as the demon side of her took her over completely. She went from being 4’8’’ to being 5’11”, her once bronzed skin turned alabaster, making her look like she was carved out of the whitest marble. Her skinned almost glowed, making her look more beautiful and untouchable. Her once chocolate brown eyes now were almost black with sparked of emerald flashing through them. She looked small compared to some of the other demons, but they all learned very quickly that she possessed great strength, and when she moved, she looked like a panther stalking its prey. The only other person able to match her power was Lucifer, but as time went on, even he started to look small in comparison as her strength, speed, and intelligence grew beyond comprehension. She did not have any weaknesses, or so it seemed at the time. Amdis leaned back in the chair, she did not look a day over twenty, the year that Ronwe had first chosen her. She laughed at him as he let his thoughts race. He had forgotten that she had the ability to enter minds as well. “Poor Ronwe, even after four billion years you still regret ever choosing me. Ohh that is so cute. Hey remember when I found out that you destroyed everyone I had loved when I was human. I think I still had a bit of humanity left in me at that time. Lucifer took such pity on me, remember the fun we had that hundred years? I think I had invented torture techniques during that time period. Ooh that was so fun” she said, never moving her lips. Her voice had drowned out his thoughts as it echoed in his mind.
“Amdis” came a voice from above her. A person appeared next to her, looking to her then to Ronwe, disgust evident on his face. Amdis looked up at the man next to her. He stood tall at 7 feet, his jet black hair falling to his face as he looked down at her. His crystalline eyes and soft features made him handsome, and she had thought so, until he created what she was today. “Lucifer how are ya doing” she said, looking into her ex-husband’s eyes. Though he looked angelic, his eyes still portrayed the darkness inside of him. His features twisted in anger as he looked back to his advisor, who hung limp in exhaustion. “Amdis why did you not let me know you were back in this dimension” he said in a sickly sweet voice. A chair materialized behind him. He sat down, clasping his hands together as he crossed his legs. She looked over him, scrunching her nose in disdain. He looked at her, resting his elbows on the arms of the chair.
“After a billion years you still dress the same. Did I not teach you any fashion sense the last time I was in this dimension, keep up with the times man” she teased, motioning to his outfit. He was wearing a black, fitting vest with a white undershirt, black breeches and white stockings. On his feet were slippers, apparently she caught him by surprise again. She continued on with her tirade, letting her voice get deeper. “When was I last here, well for you it’s only been what five hundred years that would be around 1505, but for me, wait it’s been a billion years. Wow, amazing how much a person can learn a billion years later. So what does that technically make me? Five billion years old? Wow I’m older than dirt, literally. Good thing for a dimension hopper like my self” she growled at him.
He had sent her to the dimension, promising that he would come get her when the rift was stable. Before she left she put Ronwe in charge, even though her hatred of him was evident, he was the only one with the capabality to handle her work until she got back. When she got there the portal behind her suddenly collapsed. There was no problem with the dimension, she had realized, and when she tried to get out she found all known rifts were shut. She spent the 500 million years strengthening her powers and magics to build a new rift to a different dimension. From there she was able to find more rifts to get back to her dimension. She spent the last 500 million years bouncing from dimension to another. She had gotten stuck in a dimension of nothing but shrimp, she cringed at the memory of that dimension. It took her years to get the smell off of her. She was about to give up when she came across the alternate dimension that ran parallel to this one. When one of her minions tried to end the original world, it created a shaky rift between the dimensions. She slipped through, finding out that only five hundred years had passed in the original world.
Lucifer’s eyes widened as the last billion years of her life flashed through his eyes. “Shit” he thought after seeing what she wanted to do to him. It was Ronwe’s advice that she be sent away, after the little problem she created when she tried to stop Joan of Arc’s death and successfully helped to end the hundred years war along with the War of Roses, which was supposed to be going on for another fifty years. Lucifer agreed that she needed to be dealt with, but did not like the idea of sending her to a hell dimension. Ronwe convinced him and five hundred years later they face a 5 billion old demon with a grudge.
“Amdis” he said more quietly. She raised her hand, interrupting him. “Not this time Luci” she said, using her pet name for him.
“I’m back because one of my guys messed up, thank god for bumbling idiots. Now I have a new mission, new powers and you are in for a world of trouble” she said, her mouth turning into an evil grin. He shuddered at this. Ronwe looked up in disbelief, growling at Amdis.
“You are the one that created her dammit!” he shouted, his lip re-opening, blood trickling down his chin. Suddenly his head jerked sideways and he limped over unconscious. Lucifer stared at Amdis in disbelief as she calmly wiped the blood from her hand. He didn’t see her move. She smiled at him as she grabbed onto her coat.
“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” said, disappeared right in front of Lucifer’s eyes.
