Chapter 3
Jason, Stephen and Gregory sat on the couch watching Anita in trepidation as she paced angrily back and forth in front of them. Anita’s brow was creased with worry and a deep frown pulled across her face. Micah sat in an armchair on the far side of the living room, leaning forward with his hands clasped together as he calmly glanced between Anita and the boys with knowing catlike eyes. He could understand why they were nervous. Despite her deceptively delicate features and petite body Anita made quite an imposing picture as she continued to pace across the room. It was safe to say that Anita was not happy with the whole situation and anyone who knew her would know that she was dangerous when she got like this. Anita definitely wasn’t someone you wanted to cross if you valued your life.
Anita stopped abruptly in front of the couch and ran her fingers through her long black curly hair in frustration. She closed her eyes and took a deep calming breath, forcing herself to relax. It would do no one any good if she lost her temper and started yelling at them now. She needed answers and she needed them now.
“So none of you’ve ever seen this guy before?” asked Anita for the third time.
“No, he wasn’t a regular and he didn’t quite fit in with the usual crowd,” answered Gregory.
“What do you mean?” inquired Anita.
“Well he wasn’t dressed to impress…if you know what I mean. Nothing fancy just a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket,” answered Jason as he gestured to his own clothes, which consist of a pair of skin tight black leather pants that was laced together on the side exposing patches of white creamy skin, a see through shirt and a black diamond studded dog collar around his neck.
Gregory nodded his head in agreement. “He looked like he’d just walked in off the street.”
“And you didn’t notice anything strange about him at all?” questioned Anita skeptically.
Jason shrugged apologetically. “Nope. He seemed pretty normal until we tried to take Nathaniel home. Then the guy freaked.”
“So let me get this straight. We’re looking for a normal looking guy with curly dark brown hair who may or may not be human,” Anita threw he hands up in frustration. “Oh great…and I thought this was going to be hard,” scowled Anita sarcastically.
“How long has it been since Nathaniel disappeared?” asked Anita finally. They didn’t have much of a lead so time was of the essence.
Jason glanced at his watch. “It's been about a half an hour or so.”
“Okay that’s good. They haven’t had Nathaniel for too long, so we still have time to find him before…,” Anita’s voice cracked at the end of the sentence. She didn’t want to even think about what could happen to Nathaniel. This wasn’t the first time the wereleopard had gone missing and she could still remember when Nathaniel would come home with bruises and scars all over his body. Nathaniel was a submissive to the extreme which left him vulnerable to sexual predators that got off on inflicting pain. It had gotten so bad that all of Nathaniel’s dates had to be screened by Anita first for his own good.
“Jason call Richard, ask him to meet me at the club and tell him to bring Jamil and Shang-Da with him,” ordered Anita.
“Anita do you want me to call Jean Claude too?” asked Jason as he walked to the kitchen and lifted the phone off the receiver. Anita hesitated at the werewolf’s question. Even though she wanted to ask the vampire for his help it was too early to get the triumvirate involved. She could just be overacting and this could still turn out to be a huge misunderstanding. But the last time Nathaniel went missing it turned out to be a trap and Nathaniel and Gregory were both badly hurt. Anita couldn’t take the chance of that happening again.
“Yeah,” Anita sighed.

Xander wrapped his fingers around Nathaniel’s slender wrist in a vice like grip as he dragged the dazed wereleopard through the dark streets of St. Louis. Once they’d left the club Xander had immediately taken Nathaniel off the busy main street of the blood district and into a quiet residential neighborhood. It was a lot easier to lose people in a neighborhood where the winding streets, vegetation and dim lighting provided plenty of cover to hide, a trick that Xander had learned from growing up in a small town like Sunnydale. The streets were deserted at this time of night and the only sound that could be heard was the scuffling of their feet as they made their way rapidly down the sidewalk.
Nathaniel shivered as a cool breeze brushed against his bare arms. In the club there was no need for a jacket due to the mass of warm bodies packed together like sardines on the dance floor. In the club he was safe among the flashing strobe lights and the people he knew. But outside in these dark, cold and unfamiliar surroundings Nathaniel was scared. Once things had finally quieted down the wereleopard had time to think about what had just happened and the wereleopard could only come up with one conclusion, he had gotten himself kidnapped yet again.
How could he have been so stupid? Anita was going to be so disappointed in him. She had warned him about going off with strangers and despite the desire that Nathaniel felt for this man he knew nothing about him. For all he knew Xander could be a homicidal manic who planned on torturing, raping and finally killing him once they were alone. ‘It wouldn’t be the first time,’ thought Nathaniel sullenly. Nathaniel was truly a submissive, a person whose sole existence centered on the needs and desires of others. What he wanted didn’t matter because he wasn’t even a person just a thing to be used and later discarded.
Before Anita had claimed him Nathaniel had suffered both physical and emotional abuse from people like Gabriel. Gabriel was a sadistic son of bitch whose sexual appetites ran towards pain and domination. Under his leadership Nathaniel and the other members of his pard became victims of some of the most violent and depraved acts of sex. They were forced to participate in snuff films of the most extreme variety and some of which Nathaniel wasn’t sure he would survive. Nathaniel knew all about the horrors one person could inflict on another. He had experienced them all and years later they still gave him nightmares.
Xander stopped when he felt some resistance from behind. He turned around in confusion to see why they had suddenly stopped and the look on Nathaniel’s face shocked him. The kid looked terrified and when Xander moved to touch his shoulder in comfort Nathaniel flinched away as if he thought Xander was going to hit him. Xander’s eyebrows creased in confusion. Why would Nathaniel be afraid of him? Then he thought about his actions during the last few minutes and he cringed. No wonder the kid was scared. He was acting like some sex crazed animal. Hell he didn’t even know what he was doing. Xander was running on pure instinct and he hadn’t thought about how Nathaniel would react.
The dark haired boy closed his eyes and slapped his forehead with his hand. “I’m such an idiot,” yelled Xander so suddenly that Nathaniel jumped in surprise.
Xander slowly opened his eyes and the look he gave Nathaniel made his heart flutter. The stranger’s warm chocolate eyes radiated so much tenderness and sincerity that all of Nathaniel’s fears seemed to melt away. No one had ever looked at Nathaniel like that before and he felt his desire for this stranger rise up again. With their hands still clasped together Xander pulled Nathaniel’s body towards his and the wereleopard melted into his warm embrace as he rubbed Nathaniel’s back soothingly.
“Hey…I would never hurt you,” whispered Xander reassuringly as his lips brushed across Nathaniel’s slightly parted lips.
Xander swallowed hard and struggled with the hyena for control so that he could do what he should have done before. “Nathaniel… would you like to stay with me tonight?” asked Xander quietly. There, he had said it even though it almost killed him. Xander didn’t want Nathaniel to leave and he would love to do nothing more than explore these new found feelings but not without his permission. If Nathaniel wanted to go back to the club Xander would take him.
Nathaniel shivered at the man’s words as they whispered across his skin and the only words he could think of were yes, yes and yes. But for some reason his voice failed him now and he nodded his head instead.
“Oh thank God!” exclaimed Xander before his lips descended on Nathaniel’s for another passionate toe curling kiss that promised so much more.
