Huge Thank You to Meri Lee, Perfect Darkness, Toni and Fallen_Angel, I know that Buffy/Oz is a relatively small ship. So it’s nice to see that I have a few very avid readers. And all will be revealed in time Meri; I’ve got some nice surprises for you coming up!

Also I must apologize for taking so long with this particular chapter. I kinda got side tracked with some work for my site and some major real life issues, but I’m back on the Lycanthropy track and already working on the next chapter.

Part Three – Potentially Dangerous Change

At her words it was as if all the air in the room had been sucked out of it and all that was left was the stench of jealousy and disgust. The Slayer and wolf just looked at the newbie witch and now former friend with sad and hurt filled eyes. Buffy stared in shock at the girl who used to be her best friend and before she could stop herself the hot sting of tears began prickling her eyes. The little blonde dropped her head to her chest trying to conceal the few stray tears that were now slipping past her lashes.

Suddenly a low angry growl filled the room; Willow’s eyes jumped from the hunched over blonde to the now enraged werewolf. What she couldn’t understand was how Oz went from stoic and somewhat angry to openly showing his emotions and enraged in a matter of seconds.

To anyone else it would look as if the Slayer was just frustrated with the situation but as soon as her salty tears hit the air they filled the wolf’s senses making him sick with her grief. The hatred and protectiveness that consumed him for the woman his wolf saw as his mate and the one that made her feel this way filled him. He moved swiftly in between the two women and viscously picked up the red head and began to drag her from the room. He led them along the dark shadows of the club and out into one of the back alleys

The click of heels and quick steps behind him let him know that the Slayer wasn’t too far behind let alone the fact that her scent seemed to just fill his senses and surround him completely at the moment. He shook off the slight euphoric feeling at the thought of his mate and turned his full attention and anger back onto the trembling heap at his feet. A soft gasp could be heard behind them and again he paid it no mind.

The Slayer stopped short at the scene that greeted her. Willow lay on the cold cement her face flushed and stained with angry tears. Buffy took in the scene before her and she couldn’t help but stagger back at the surreal quality it contained. Shaking off the feeling she tentatively stepped toward the two figures with slow measured steps.

“Daniel” she whispered softly not wanting to startle him, he’d been growling non-stop since she ran out into the alley only a few minutes before

Willow’s eyes widened at the whispered name and she couldn’t help the slight breaking of her already tattered heart. Unwanted tears began to sting her eyes once more as she felt her body collapse fully onto the cold, hard cement. Buffy glanced down at the girl now lying on the ground and an air of sadness floated over her before it was taken away by the night’s breeze. This situation could’ve been easily avoided but when Willow gets burned her first thought is always as to how can she hurt the other person that hurt her.

Turning her attention back to the still growling and very feral looking Oz she was more than surprised to find his eyes had turned a brilliant luminous green color and his canines had lengthened considerably. It was clear that the situation had just escalated into something potential dangerous for all who were present.

“Willow… I think you should go now” Buffy whispered softly her eyes never leaving the werewolf that looked ready to attack at any moment.

The witch finally looked up from the ground and her eyes widened at the sight before her. Not daring to say a word she just nodded slowly and carefully stood up once more. Frightened eyes flitted back and forth between the young woman that used to be her best friend and the man that used to be her boyfriend before she ran out of the alley without a backwards glance.

The Slayer’s eyes followed her down and out of the alley way and out into the street and into the darkness of the night until she couldn’t see her anymore. Once she was sure the Willow was long gone she turned her attention back to the still growling wolf.

“Daniel, she’s gone now…” she whispered softly

Her response was the ever consistent growling to grow louder, his eyes now locked solely on her. Buffy’s eyes widened when she realized that this may no longer be Oz but the wolf that she was dealing with even though he didn’t make it through the change. Not really knowing how to deal with the situation other than to fight him she began to back away slowly but she didn’t get to far before Oz lunged forward and grabbed her wrist swiftly.

Buffy couldn’t help but cry out more in shock then in pain but it was enough it to break whatever haze of the mind he was locked in. Oz staggered backwards a little bit though never letting go of his girlfriend’s wrist. Shaking his head a bit to clear the still murkiness that surrounded him, he was more than surprised to find a flushed looking Slayer with glassy frightened eyes.

“Buffy? Are you alright? What’s wrong? What happened?” he asked quietly

“…Are you, you again?” she asked hesitantly

“What are you talking about? Of course I’m me… baby, did something happen?”

The Slayer couldn’t help but stare at him in shock. Shaking her head slightly she realized that this problem might be worse than she thought. Just moments before he was growling and ready to attack anything that moved and now he was back to his regular subdued self.

“You really don’t remember anything from the past few minutes?” she asked again, at his blank stare she rephrased her question. “Okay, what you do you remember from the last few minutes?”

“Uh well, I remember finishing up the set and heading up to the catwalk to talk to you and Willow. Then we decided to head to the backroom to try and sort things out there. Then Willow… well she said something very hurtful and then… and that’s where it gets fuzzy. All I remember was that I knew that you were upset and that it was Willow’s fault. I don’t know just… something came over me. It was like I had to protect you… does that make sense?” he looked up curiosity marring his features

Buffy could only nod slightly before stepping up to him and wrapping her arms around his middle. Laying her head on his chest she looked up at him and smiled softly before extracting herself from his embrace and led him back inside the club.

As the fiery red head stormed down the street, her eyes blazed with a jealous fire. She was absolutely disgusted with herself; she was supposed to be this all powerful witch for Christ sakes. How could she just LET some werewolf and his wolfy-whore manhandle her in public? She was practically whimpering at their feet. Shaking her head she picked up her pace until she was practically running down the darkened streets of Sunnydale.

Panting softly when she finally arrived at her destination she quickly made her way down the cement steps and knocked rather impatiently at the door. When it finally opened she brushed past the person holding it open for her without as much as a “hello”. Dark eyes couldn’t help but roll at the sight of the red head at this hour. It was then he knew what this visit was probably all about.

“And Hello to you too Wills” the boy drawled

“That bitch, she is such a whore. I mean how he could even want a slut like that. All she did for three god damn years was moon over Angel and then all of a sudden the new love of her love is MY EX-BOYFIEND! Oh yea! That’s a real coincidence! And URGH Oz, what a fake! I mean all that shit he’d been spouting about how he cared about me and just—“

“—Whoa Willow! Take a breather for a second and catch me up!” Xander exclaimed looking at her as if she had two heads. He knew that she was upset over Oz not really wanting her anymore and Buffy’s new found friendship with the werewolf but it wasn’t as if they were really dating. All that was there was a close friendship… right?

“I hate them, I hate them so much” she whispered softly before flopping down on to one of the over stuffed chairs in the corner.

Sighing softly Xander realized that it was going to be a long night and shuffled over to where the red head was pouting and flopped down on the couch adjacent to her. He knew that this was going to be basically Willow venting so he decided to get comfortable but he did have one thing to say.

“Look Willow, Oz has every right to move on with his life… I know that sucks to hear but it’s true. We kissed Wills, plain and simple. And we did it while we were BOTH with other people. We cheated…”

“We didn’t cheat! It was one stupid, MEANINGLESS kiss!” she exclaimed

Sighing heavily he looked at the girl who had been his best friend since kindergarten and he couldn’t help but be sad for her. How could she not see how they’d hurt both Oz and Cordelia.

“Willow, it may have been stupid and meaningless to us but to Oz and Cordy it hurt. In fact it hurt them a lot. At least that’s how Cordy tells me she felt when she found us. I mean they really cared about both of us and we just… betrayed them in one of the worst possible ways.”

When he saw that the red head sat there her face expressionless he knew that there would be no getting through to her tonight so at that point he just decided to listen. He hadn’t seen his friend this upset since the night she found out that Buffy and Oz had been spending so much time together.

“What happened tonight?” he asked softly

“Well… it sorta started earlier today. You see I just thought all this stuff that was going on was silly and I don’t know that Oz was really just close friends with Buffy… So anyway I called him and we were talking… it was almost as if nothing changed and then…” she trailed off a deep frown marring her features

“And then what?”

“Well he got quiet all of a sudden, well quieter than usual and then just rushed me off the phone. Well I… I thought something might be wrong so I kinda went to the bands’ house” she said sheepishly

Xander let his eyes flutter closed as if in pain and then looked up at his friend.

“Willow you didn’t… Oz made it very clear that we were not to go to the house after… well you know.”

“I know but… I guess I just couldn’t help it. I wanted to feel like he still needed me, like I was still important, apart of his life. So I got it into my head to go over there… that was probably one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made. She was there… I knew the moment I walked in the door and the guys froze as if Snyder himself walked in.” she said miserably

“Ouch… so what happened… I mean did she do or say something to you? Did they say or do something to you?” Xander inquired softly

“No… well I mean surprisingly Devon recovered first and told me to have a seat and just said that he’d be back. He then went bounding up the stairs and I could hear the guys whispering… none of them were comfortable with me there and when Devon came back down shortly followed by Oz AND Buffy I knew why. When I looked at the two of them together, they seemed… close. Something has happened or is going to happen between them…” she sighed heavily

“Well I know this may sound harsh but… if they have something or the beginnings of something than it’s not your place to get in the way. You may feel we did nothing wrong but we know that’s not true. Hell I even know us kissing was bad and though its sucks big time… Oz has the right to move on.” He said softly

“But why Buffy?” the red head practically wailed

“Well… why not? I mean they were friends beforehand and they’re both unattached. Let alone the fact that they’re both just this side of supernatural, It’s—“

“Both of them are supernatural!?! What kind of explanation is that? I mean c’mon, give me a break Xand. You’re looking at a practiced witch here” she finished smugly

Dark eyes suppressed the urge to roll at the witch’s words.

“Hum Wills its late why don’t we call it night and we can figure out the rest in the morning” the Zeppo suggested feigning a yawn as he moved pull the couch out into the bed.

The red head noticed the abrupt end to the conversation and she couldn’t help but be slightly perturbed by it. Even Xander who was her rock and always in her corner seemed to be “okay” with Buffy and Oz becoming what most would consider an item. Sighing silently to herself she knew that she could never let this actually happen. Oz was hers and hers alone. Slayer or not Buffy was encroaching on her territory. She knew that her words and actions tonight had set her back quite a bit but with a few words here and gestures there she’d be right back where she needed to be.

Oh yes things would work out just nicely in the end…

Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows?
Only time...

And who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose?
Only time...

Who can say why your heart sighs,
As your love flies?
Only time...

And who can say why your heart cries,
When your love dies?
Only time...

And who can say when the day sleeps,
If the night keeps all your heart?
Night keeps all your heart...

Hazel eyes stared sightlessly out into the darkness of the room. Ribbon like streams of moonlight filtered past the gossamer like drapes creating soft shadows that danced about the room. Only a few hours before did the Jake, Oz and Buffy get back to the house leaving Devon and Jeremy to their own devices and the gaggle of girls surrounding them.

Sighing softly to herself Buffy couldn’t help but remember the feral look in his eyes and the constant growl that emanated from his throat made her feel… alive. And that fact alone frightened her to her very core. When she was with Angel it was dark, dangerous and exciting all at the same time but in the end that’s all it really was. With Oz it’s different; it can be sweet and nice practically sunshine and flowers. But then there are the times when being with her wolf it could be just as deliciously dark and exciting as anything else.

The Slayer deep inside of her could feel the pull, the call of the wolf. And it was calling her its mate and she could only respond in kind. Though different they were the same and that was something that caused her to feel something she’d never felt before: a sense of belonging and kinship.

Soft puffs of air caressed the tops of her breasts in a steady rhythm and she couldn’t help the small smile that curled on her lips as she gently ran her fingers though Oz’s soft gel-free locks. Willow’s words earlier had struck a chord within her and they really hurt but they did make her stop and take a step back. Maybe she and Oz should rethink this situation. Even with the strong emotions his mere touch stirred inside of her. If it was going to cause this much friction maybe it was better if weren’t together…
