EYE!
Chapter 26
Faiths POV
I grab Xander’s arm and walk out the front door where I let it go.
“Where we goin’?” He asks shoving his hands in his pockets.
“I don’t care I just don’t wonna be here for a while, Red’s gonna tell B about us.” I say as we start walking down the street towards town.
“Buffy’s gonna be fine with it Faith, I mean look at what she was like when she saw Spike, she’s all better now.” We round a corner and keep walking towards the town centre.
“Yeah somehow I think Spike being brought back from the dead yet again isn’t as shocking and surprising as me doin’ Red.”
“I didn’t mind did I?” He says with a look.
“And the reason you don’t mind is that you imagine us both getting hot and heavy at every chance you get. For some reason I don’t think that would comfort Buffy like it does you.”
Here comes the mock offence. “How can you think so little of me? Are we not friends?” Xander stops for a second. “Maybe I’m not as okay with you and Willow as I previously thought!” With that he sticks his nose in the air and huffs.
“You wonna go get a beer?” I ask nodding my head towards a bar on the corner of the street.
“You really think heading back drunk is a good idea?” He asks raising an eyebrow, I think he doth protest too much.
“You’re assuming that I’m going to get drunk?”
We walk into the smoke filled room and head for the bar and order a couple of Buds. I take a swig and lead the way to an empty table.
After many, many drinks we are both quite intoxicated.
“OK so maybe a wittle bit drunk.” I say this holding my thumb and forefinger slightly apart. Well to me it doesn’t look that big but my vision right now is not the most reliable of things. “Hey Xand, take your eye patch off, I wonna see what it looks like.” I slur.
He gives me a bit of an evil look but then smiles and shakes his head.
“Ohh, come on I won’t tell anyone I just wonna see.”
After a second he puts his hand up to his face and puts his index finger under the patch.
He jumps up suddenly and starts screaming. “OH MY FUCKING GOD! MY EYE!” He starts doing what I can only describe as his happy dance.
I give him a huge confused look. “Did you forget it was gone?” I ask smirking at him.
“IT’S BACK! MY EYE IS BACK! I CAN FEEL IT!” He shouts, the bartender comes over to us and has decided we have had enough, he ushers us outside into the light. I stumble over the small step out of the bar and stare at Xander as he slowly removes his eye patch with his eye still closed. He gently opens his eye and there I am staring into both his deep blue eyes.
“Holy shit!” Is all I can come up with before grabbing his hand. We both run hand in hand all the way back to the house. We arrive with Xander considerably out of breath and burst through the front door into the living room where everyone turns to stare at us.
“LOOK! EVERYONE LOOK!” I say excitedly pointing to Xander’s new eye.
Everyone in the room crowds around Xander in shock. Buffy, Willow and Giles then walk in to see what all the noise is about. I grab Xander out of the crowd and push him in front of the scoobies
“Look Xander’s eye’s all better.” There is still a slight slur in my voice but I think I’m hiding it rather well.
“Faith have you been drinking.” Busted. B has never seen me drunk how would she know what it looks like.
“Enough about me.” Gotta swing the attention and more specifically the glaring away from me. I point at Xander’s eye again. “Look!” With that I leave the room slowly until I am out of sight then run up the stairs, go into mine and Willows room, lock the door and flop back on the bed.
I lie there for a while, smiling at nothing in particular until there is a small knock at the door.
“Who is it?” I ask walking towards the door with my hand on the lock.
“Rachel… I don’t like all the tension downstairs can I come in and annoy you?” She asks quietly.
I slowly unlock the door and let her in, locking it behind her again. She walks over to the sofa and sits down. I walk over to the bed and do a sort of belly flop onto it.
We sit, well she does and I lie, in silence for a long time before I speak. “So you’re like an angel or something right?”
She smiles. “Yeah, hey you wonna see a cool trick?” She asks standing up, she doesn’t wait for my answer before two huge, white, feathery wings appear on her back. I look a bit dumbstruck as I study them. “I told you I could sprout wings!” She sounds like a child showing off to her friends.
“Yeah well I can like kill 10 vamps in 10 minutes.” I retort. Okay so maybe I am childish too, but it’s fun!
“I gave Xander his eye back.” She says trying to get one over on me, my eyes widen and my mouth falls open slightly.
“You did that?”
“Kinda, Xander had to get some sort of reward for all the stuff he did to help, Willow got the ability to control the magic, Buffy got Spike… they couldn’t bring Anya back because she was human at the time so just went straight up… so they decided to give him back his eye instead since he kept complaining about not having it.” She explains whilst picking up a stake off the chest of draws.
“I thought that angels would like glow or something?” I ask rolling onto my back with my head hanging off the end of the bed looking at her upside down.
“I only glow sometimes.” She says simply… the conversation is left at that because there is another knock at the door. This time a lot louder.
“It’s Buffy, I better go.” Rachel says opening the door. She walks out and Buffy walks in shutting the door behind her.
I sit up on the bed and lean against the headboard with my back. “Hey B.” Is all I can come up with.
“I guess that was why you were acting weird then?” She asks pointing at a picture Andrew took of me and Red.
“Listen B, it just happened and I think I’m actually making her happy… and she is making me happy… what’s wrong with that?” I ask looking at the pattern on the bedspread.
“Nothing…”
My head snaps up and my eyes meet hers. “Huh? What?”
“I love Willow, you know that and yeah it’s a bit weird, I mean when the hell did you become all gay? But I mean… she seems happy, happier than she has been in like… well sorta forever… and I don’t wonna do the friend talk cause I know you have already had it off Xander… so I guess all I need to say is that whatever Xander said he would do if you hurt her you will get it 100 times worse from me.”
I smile at her and nod my head. “You’re pretty cool sometimes B.”
She looks at me with a mischievous look on her face. “Sometimes? I can still beat you up for banging my best friend you know.” With that she walks out of the room leaving me alone having the worse nicotine craving of my life.
