“Say it.” Xander says softly. {Come on Blair I can’t tell you. Will you say it or will you go into denial?}
“No.” Blair whispered softly in denial.
“No what Blair?” Xander asks staring into Blair’s eyes sadly.
Blair looks at Xander their eye’s locking. Blair hitched in a breath his own eyes widening at the sadness in Xander’s eyes, eyes that had seen more than anyone Xanders age should have seen, eyes that were full of pain sorrow loss and hope.
Blair couldn’t deny those eyes. He couldn’t run from the truth contained in those eyes.
“Why must I say it?” Blair asked delaying the inevitable.
“Because we can’t help you if you don’t admit that you need us to.” Xander answered softly.
“I… God this sounds ridiculous. I was attacked last night by,” Blair hesitated before continuing whispering the last word “Some people/things that looked like vampires.”
Blair closed his eyes and waited for the laughter.
Waited for the ridicule.
Blair waited and prayed for Xander to laugh and say ‘fooled you’.
Xander didn’t say a word he just sat and mourning Blairs lost innocence. If Xander were right, and he usually was, now Blair knew what was out there he wouldn’t be able to sit back and forget. Blair would want to fight. He would want to protect the innocent.
Xander looked down at the vampire he was cradling in his arms.
Spike was slowly beginning to come round from the blast of pain the chip had fired off when he grabbed Blair’s bandaged wrist.
Climbing slowly to his feet he swung Spike in to his arms and gently laid him on the bed.
Xander waved Blair into the kitchen area of his room and reached into the fridge.
“Make yourself a coffee and we will continue this when Spike wakes up.” Xander said getting a blood bag from the fridge and pouring the blood into a mug and putting it in the microwave to heat.
Xander turned and looked at Blair’s horrified face as he realised what the red substance was.
