Knowing whats yours

Buffy sat nervously beside Lonnie as the nurses tried once again to get close enough to the cavewoman to change her bandages. Even with Buffy’s persistence that they didn’t want to hurt her Lonnie refused.

She looked over to the children who sat across the room watching the exchange with growing interest, snapping back to attention when she heard a clatter. Looking down she saw that Lonnie had flung a bedpan at the nearest nurse.

“You need to hold her down Frau Summers.” The nurse bearing gauze and the medical tape told her.

Nodding she turned “Baby please just let them change the bandages.” Lonnie fixed Buffy with the most stubborn look she could muster. Shifting around as much as she was had begun to hurt but she wasn’t going to let those women touch her.

“No.” Lonnie glared at the women in the colorful skins. She didn’t like them or there medicines. They made her sleepy and dammit she couldn’t understand a damn thing they were saying.

“Please trust me. They won’t hurt you and you’re scaring the kids.” At that Lonnie looked over to where the children sat each watching her, Axel looked bored but Jaeger she could see was ready to jump at the first sign of danger.

Sighing she laid back and as the women edged closer she stiffened but didn’t fight them when they started peeling off the bandages from her stomach and she resisted the urge to strike out when the other flashed a light and said something to her.

“She wants you to follow the light with your eyes.” Lonnie stared misbelieving at Buffy. ‘What was the point to that?’ instead of arguing she did what Buffy said.

When the nurses fixed the bandages and stepped away both feeling more than relieved that this patient was dealt with.

“What language is that?” The nurse who had bandaged Lonnie asked.

“Its German, just….a really remote dialect.”

“Must be…never heard that in my life.” Buffy tensed at the inquisitive look the pair threw her and Lonnie before they walked out of the room.

The tension eased immediately and Buffy leaned down and kissed Lonnie softly.

“Some of the things they said…sounded familiar…wrong but familiar.” Lonnie said, she looked up at her mate. “Do you know why?”

“I told you this place is many, many seasons after yours.” Buffy continued after Lonnie’s nod “Well im guessing your language is a dead language meaning no one speaks it anymore.” Lonnie nodded again and laid back. She knew what that meant even if Buffy didn’t tell her.

Her people were dead, long gone and she couldn’t return. She was happy that they had a chance now. That they didn’t need to worry about Sharja anymore but it was just…everything was so different here.

Giles went to the door when he heard Faith knock; opening it he smiled at the slayer. Taking a moment to study the young woman who wasn’t so young anymore. True she didn’t look her age at all but he had known her a long tome and could see the subtle signs of age and motherhood.

Stepping aside to let her in he watched as she headed straight for the living room. He followed because he was truly curious what she had to tell him, she had refused to do so over the phone and had waited until the school day had ended.

Seeing her stand before him tense he put his hands on his hips and waited patiently for her to start talking.

“Its…she’s back Giles. It’s really her.” Faith blurted then looked down feeling excited and scared at the same time over it.

“Who?” Giles was genuinely curious over who he could mean. Then that tiny nagging piece of hope that had nearly been diminished by time spoke up. “…Buffy?”

Faith nodded and she felt increasingly uncomfortable when Giles eyes watered and he took his glasses off and began cleaning them.

“Are you sure it was her?” He felt almost bloody drunk with joy that it could be her. There were so many things he wanted to ask Faith.

“Yea G-man id recognize that voice anywhere. She called me last night; she’s in a hospital near Black Forest.”

“A hospital? Is she alright?” Anxiety and concern swirled through him.

“I don’t know…but I want to take Dawnie, Red and Xander and go get her.” Giles glanced away and nodded. His failing health kept him close to home much of the time. Kidney disease was a horrible pain in the arse. It was something only the ‘staff’ or old gang knew of. And he appreciated Faith not bringing it up directly.

“Yes. Ill have the jet ready in an hour. Get everything together and let me know when you’re on your way.”

Faith nodded and walked out of the house.

Giles sat own and looked over at a small framed picture of the ‘scoobies’ that had been taken after the school had opened…he had often caught himself looking at the picture because it was one of the only ones that he had that had Buffy in them.

Sighing he sat and poured a small glass of scotch. Kidneys be damned he needed a drink.

Dawn blinked stupidly at Faith. Unable to wrap her mind around what the woman was saying. She knew she probably looked ridiculous what with her mouth opening and reopening her probably looked like a fish or something.

“You’re lying. I know we all miss her but dammit she’s…no it can’t be” Dawn suddenly felt weak and leaned into Horus. ‘Theres no way!”

“I am. I already told Giles and Xander is flying in right now from LA so when he gets here were leaving. Can you be ready?” Faith asked.

“Yeah of course.” Dawn nodded and bent and picked up her young son Daniel and turned and walked out of the room still dazed.

Faith nodded at Horus and smiled at the soft smile the normally stoic wolf had on his face as he watched his young wife leave the room.

Skye carefully navigated her way off the grounds. Something was distracting everyone…even Asher and now she finally could leave. Normally she would stay and see what the buzz was about but her fever had gotten to the point of painful.

Shed even resorted to trying out Jamie, of course it hadn’t helped that she had all but forgotten she even had a boyfriend and after nearly an hour of sloppily making out ton her bed she had to admit that even though Jamie seemed to be having the time of his life she as bored out of her mind.

So after shoving him off her and leaving him standing in her room in nothing but his briefs she was waking off the grounds.

Stepping tentatively through the gate she sniffed the area and immediately smelled ten were’s nearby. Pulling out the small dart gun and silver dagger she broke into a run up the street.

Turning when she heard the werewolves crash through the brush, some were in there wolf forms some in there human. Speeding up she pushed herself to go faster until finally she was outrunning them by a good distance.

Turning up the street that led to the bar eventually she kept sprinting, her anxiety rose a couple notches when she saw a group of wolves standing in the street waiting for her, she turned sharply and leapt through the trees feeling the branches and brush give away she deftly dodged and ducked to avoid several branches.

Breathing harder than she was used to she grinned when she saw Gypsies come into view. Sprinting several more yards she nearly laughed with relief when she broke through the door of the bar.

The thing about demon bars were there were spells and glamour’s placed over them to dispel any violent tendencies and luckily it killed the scent of her fever.

Looking around at the empty bar she turned and walked through the staff only door and went down the stairs and down the dark hallway. Stopping she sniffed softly and felt the fever dance through her veins when she smelled Ryan.

Studying the doors she concluded that the door at the end of the hall was most likely Ryan’s if the crack of light under the door was any indication.

Walking down she felt her hair stand on end when she sensed several werewolves moving around outside. Stopping herself just short of walking through the door she pulled back and knocked.

***********************

Ryan rolled out of ht bed she shared with her young brother at the sound of a knock at the door. She frowned normally Henri didn’t bother knocking; her demon boss just called out and walked in.

She was sure it was a ruse to catch her without her top on but hey he paid the bills so she couldn’t kill him. Standing at the door she let her claws slip out before softly turning the knob and opening the door.

Standing in the doorway was the wolf girl. Her cheeks were flushed and she had several leaves and small twigs in her long black hair. Ryan stiffened involuntarily when she caught the scent of the fever.

Feeling her rational thought slip away she growled softly when she studied the girl in more than a clinical light. Her skin was flushed, her body covered in a fine sheen of sweat the tighter clothes the girl wore showed off her figure and she smelled lightly of sex. The scent wasn’t hers though it smelled human.

“What do you want?” Ryan bit out. If this woman was dumb or crazy enough to come here in the fever smelling of humans she was truly deserving of whatever those wolves outside wanted.

“I’m here to see you.” Ryan stiffened when Skye stepped closer to her and leaned in to kiss her. Ryan moaned and when she went to push the wolf away Skye deepened the kiss and Ryan wrapped her arms around the wolfs neck, feeling Skye gently suck on her tongue Ryan moaned and arched into the wolf.

Pulling apart when she heard coughing she turned and felt her face flood red.

“Bonjour Skye.” Remy said as he stood cockily smirking at his older sister and the wolf. He could smell Skye but it didn’t affect him at all and it wouldn’t until he hit puberty.

“Umm…Hey Remy. How are you?” Skye asked feeling the fever bank at the sight of the young boy. Her initial desire to ‘want take have’ Ryan had thoroughly been doused in water thanks to the cub.

“I’m good.” Remy smiled “You want to play cards?”

Skye felt awareness fill her, Ryan was still pressed up into her and while the woman’s spicy scent was intoxicating she didn’t miss the Spartan details to the room. The full mattress was rested on several beer crates, a clothes line ran the far side of the room where some clothes were hanging to dry. There was an old TV in the corner that flickered and the water stains on the once floral wall paper made Skye’s heart lurch.

Ryan stiffened and pulled away when she saw the sympathy on Skye’s face. She wasn’t going to let this wolf come in here and pity them because they didn’t have what she had.

Preparing for a fight she was unprepared for what Skye said next.

“You’re my mate aren’t you?” Skye cocked her head to the side and shot the tiger one of her mother’s infamous dimpled grins.
