Blood Ties

Sasha walked through the forest, eyeing the trees around her in speculation, not seeing the one she would need she pressed on. Turning when she heard a rustle in the trees she froze….nothing.

Reason one thousand something she hated being so human was that she was at the bottom of the food chain and essentially vulnerable to anything and anyone stronger than her.

Looking ahead of her she finally spotted a tall oak. Smiling she pulled the chalice and dagger from her pocket and walked to the base of the tree. Crouching down she carefully sliced her hand, watching the red blood drain into the chalice she stood after wrapping her scarf around the stinging wound.

Looking up at the tree she whispered “The Broker.” Before taking a drink and dipping her fingers into the blood and wiping them onto the trunk.

Stepping back when the air shifted around her she started slightly when she saw The Broker crouched predatorily in the lower branches of the tree.

“Greetings mortal.” Swinging down gracefully The Broker stood to his full height and peered down at Sasha. “Why have you summoned me?”

“It’s Sasha of the Underworld.” Sasha said, regally she stared back into his eyes. At six foot three The Broker was one of the many mysteries of the Universe. To Beautiful be anything but God his platinum blonde hair shone brightly in the sunlight, his eyes were blood red and he dressed as in mainly black leather pants, and today a see through red shirt. His deals were unwavering and absolute. And this was quite possibly the most reckless thing she had ever done….but she had no choice.

“You’ve no scent of Gods on you…you lie.I don’t like liars.” The Broker snarled softly.

Reaching behind him he manifested a small albeit intimidating energy ball.

“I AM Sasha of the Underworld. But taste the memories of my blood and you will know.” Sasha said confidently, eyeing the energy ball with more fear than she would have liked. Those fuckers hurt.

“Very well.” Broker took the chalice and drank, Sasha watched as his eyes suddenly flashed with the memories of her life. Stepping back he smiled and looked her over. “You really pissed off Zues…and I take it you want me to….?”

“Theres a reason IM the one that has to figure this out, so either it’s in the things I cannot remember or I was witness to this virus’s creation. Ive looked and seen the things this virus reaps…it’s demonic…and very old. I want you to send me back to when it was created.”

“Time travel isnt cheap Sasha.” Broker murmured taking another healthy sip of blood.

“Im human now…I have a soul. Ill barter that if you send me back.” She watched as he smiled in interest.

“Well…that’s doable. That should piss off Zeus however.”

“Since when have you cared about pissing off Gods?” Sasha asked jokingly. She knew she had him.

“True…ill do it but you wont be seen or heard by any mortal being, cant have you rerouting history…AGAIN now can i?” Broker smiled pleasantly enough but Sasha saw the fire behind his words.

“Fine…I just need to witness.” Sasha took a step back and waited for The Broker to make his decision.

She knew this was the only shot…whatever it was they were up against…it was vicious and old. And she knew no matter what at the end of the month she was either unmade or banished for another millenium in the underworld and shed like to at least commit to one death sentence knowing her heirs were well.

“Very well…you have one month. And answer or no answer I pull you back.” The Broker said, smiling pleasantly.

“Deal.” Sasha unwrapped the wounded hand and stuck it out; the only way to finalize a deal with The Broker was blood for blood. She watched him unwrap his own sliced palm, she had never seen it healed. And they shook on it.

Inhaling sharply when the world around her began to blur she stumbled and struggled to regain her footing. Watching as suddenly she was witness to her surroundings fading backwards through time.

*************************

Kennedy watched from the trees as Sasha shook hands with the tall demon and began to stumble backwards before vanishing into the air. Fighting the urge of rushing the blonde bastard and slaying she stepped through the brush and walked straight up to him.

Glaring when he turned and smiled pleasantly at her. “How do you do human.” Kennedy didn’t miss his assessing glance or the hostility in his face.

“Or should I say…slayer.”

“What did you do to her?” Kennedy snapped. Everything about this being had her senses doing the happy dance. HE was big…and BAD. That was all that seemed to register once she got past his unnatural beauty.

“Nothing she didn’t ask for.” Broker sized up the small mortal, pleased with Coops match.

The annoying little love God did have a good taste for soul mates that was for certain. In all his years of knowing Sasha he had never met anyone that could match her fire for fire.

“And what is that?” Kennedy asked, her hand twitching to the dagger on her belt.

“That will cost you pretty.” Broker said smugly, leaning against the tree. And to think he had thought this day would be boring.

“Cost me what?”

“Blood my sweet. For answers you must pay the price.” The Broker watched in amusment as she fought her all to human reaction to beings of the universe needing the most basic life source.

"Fine.” Taking her dagger Kennedy cut a small gash into the top of her hand and let the blood flow. Watching when The Broker suddenly held the chalice under it she waited for him to let up.

Kennedy fought back a curdle of disgust when The Broker began drinking her spilt blood. Once he was done he wiped it from his lips and looked about him. “Your daughter is beautiful.” Broker said softly.

Kennedys heart stopped and she felt her insides seize in fear.

“No worries mortal. I am not interested in her…unless you wish for a trade?”

“No…I just wanna know where Sasha is and why.”

“Shes back in Atlantis…shes has correctly concluded that that is where she needs to go for answers.” The Broker smirked at the slayer pleasantly.

“What would it take…for you to send me where she is.” Kennedy asked softly.

“The slayer in you. I send you there…as a true human and that is what you will remain for the rest of your days.” The Broker watched as the slayer turned over this words.

“Its about the virus isnt it?” Kennedy asked.

“Yes.” The Broker said softly.

“Ill do it.” Kennedy said softly, watching in fear as suddenly The Brokers sliced palm reached out, holding her own hand out she watched there hands grasp and suddenly the world seemed to tilt on its axis.

Stumbling back she watched as the surroundings blurred and changed so…fast.

Kennedy felt the air around her shift and she was propelled through the universe.
Landing in a heap she looked up, dazed…around her was so…bright. Looking up she saw that she was on a cliff, up ahead of her stood Sasha, her back to her.

Kennedy winced as she sat up slowly, old aches and pains that she hadnt felt in nearly twenty years.

Sitting up she called out to Sasha. “Hey…just so you know. You suck and that was NOT fucking fun.” Kennedy said, standing up. All of this stupid shit of the last twenty minutes or so was nearly worth it for the look of complete shock.
“Whatre you doin here Kennedy?!?” Sasha yelled.
