Last Train Home
~The Next Morning~
Surprisingly the tribe took the murder of there Old Mother quite well. Of course these people were at root more concerned with survival and out here the strongest truly were the stronger.
Buffy rechecked the litter that was tied to the horses harness. Apparently saddles weren’t even thought of and she watched as Winsol and Falcon carefully strapped in her unconscious mate. Lonnie hadn’t made a sound, not a peep the entire night. And Buffy felt her hope waning.
Sighing she went and pulled on the harness that would hold Axel to her back and standing patently as Winsol put the sleeping baby into the harness. Turning she forced a smile and hugged Winsol tightly.
Pulling away she looked over to Sansa and Falcon, leaning up she softly kissed Falcons cheek and hugged Sansa. “You take care of each other. I believe you were meant to be Old Mother form the beginning Falcon. Don’t abuse it.”
Quietly nodding Falcon helped Buffy onto the horse and handed Jaeger up to her and as they settled onto the horse Buffy turned one last time and said goodbye to the people that had been her family for the last nine years.
Turning she began the journey to the stones. Praying that the salves and ointments that shaman had fed Lonnie would work long enough to get through the portal and to the hospital in Black Forest.

~Present Day: Raya~
Raya sat beside Faith and Willow pouring over text of the latest ‘Big Bad’…a demon from another realm that once every hundred years would come here and feed on the souls of innocents.
Sighing as she failed to find a proper description of the demon she closed the book and looked over to her wife. Noting the stress lines across her face and the stiff stance…she knew Faith wasn’t getting much sleep lately. None of them were.
Brigitte had taken to sleeping in there bed with them and while they were firm in making her sleep in her own bed the toddler would return to there room a few times in the night until one of them relented. Making firm plans to enforce her decision that the girl stay in her own room and to take Faith away for a romantic feeling she sighted and reached for another book.
Looking up when Willow cleared her throat. “This is off topic but I found something that may explain why Skye is going through the fever early.”
Reaching behind her she pulled out an old leather bound book that had nothing special about it but a symbol on the front that Raya recognized as the symbol for Skin Walkers.
Opening the book to a passage that was in Latin, Willow read “There are three classes of mates among this noble species. Like there animal counterparts they possess traits and qualities of that animal to the smallest detail.
The first class of mate is the mutual agreement to mate with a chosen companion, True Mates are where it is opinion and known that two mates are bound together by there hearts and Blood Mates is the rarest form where each Skin Walker has a mate that is the mate to there animal half, it is no matter if a skin walker is already mated in the other two forms if one meets there Blood Mate an unbreakable bond is formed and they are the only ones in which the skin walker can respond too. For life.”
Looking up Willow looked over at Raya and Faith. Noticing the slightly confused expressions on there faces. “Blood mates are from what I can tell loyal whether or not they like it to there blood mate and once there mated can only have children with that person and can only respond umm…sexually to that mate.”
“What does this have to do with anything?” Raya asked softly. She had a feeling she knew but damned if she was going to let it happen.
“Skye has hit Moon Fever, you know it, and I know it…only she’s hit it to early and so I looked around to see why and this is the only possible explanation.”
“But she’s still a virgin. If she weren’t I would smell it on her.” Raya said firmly.
“Blood mate don’t need to have sex to become mates. Pretty much if they so much as stand within five feet of there blood mate it’s a done deal. They’re bonded for life."
“…fuck” Faith murmured softly as she pulled out her cigarette and for the first time since meeting her wife she didn’t get a look for smoking.

~One Week Ago: Buffy~
Buffy scanned the country side, watching for any possible danger. Stealing a glance behind her to where her mate lay on the litter still asleep. The medicines that the shaman had given her would slow her bleeding and keep her between death and life so that her injuries didn’t worsen.
Urging the animal onward she looked down at the sleeping girl in her lap and listened to the even breathing coming from bother children. The horse was tired, she was tired. But they were almost there. She was surprised she still remembered the way but then again she should have known that she would never have forgotten.
Turning down the path that had overgrown with brush and foliage she pulled to a halt at the sight of the stones, they hadn’t changed at all. Feeling the magic coming from the circle and gently shook Jaeger awake and wordlessly the little girl climbed down off of the horse and held her arms up as Buffy carefully lowered Axel down to her.
Jaeger hadn’t spoken more than a handful of words since the journey had begun and normally that would worry Buffy but she was to worry about Lonnie to focus on anything else.
Climbing down she pulled out the tonic that would wake her mate up, tilting Lonnie’s chin back she poured the amber liquid down the cavewoman’s throat. Jumping slightly when Lonnie jolted and coughed.
Heavy eyes looked around and locked on the slayer. Buffy smiled and carefully untied Lonnie from the stretcher before taking Axel from Jaeger and strapping him to her back again before bending down and picking up her mate.
Turning to her daughter she waited as Jaeger came over and grasped onto her skins. Taking a deep breathe she walked into the center of the circle and once again listened as the sounds of breaking waves filled her ears.
And before she could blink she was in the Black Forest.
Turning she studied the clearing; she didn’t see any horse or any other signs that this was prehistoric Germany. No instead she watched as Jaeger curiously bent and picked up a dunkel weissen (Dark Beer) bottle and studied it carefully with great curiously.
“Come on Jaeger. We have to get Mother to a shaman.”
“How can this shaman help if the tribe’s shaman couldn’t?” Jaeger looked around noticing differences, the smells, the sounds. It was all so different.
“Because the shamans here know the wounds that Lonnie has. Now what did we talk about?” Buffy turned and looked down at her daughter.
“Don’t talk to no one and don’t leave your side for nothing and if someone tries to mate me just scream.”
Nodding Jaeger followed her mom as they walked through the dark dense woods. Looking up she saw several birds that were unlike any she had ever seen.
Looking down she ignored the fact that mommies feet were bleeding and her back looked incredibly stressed.
Sighing she prayed they would get to mommies village soon.
