Xander paced inside Cordelia’s small living room, moving back and forth between the walls. He was worried. He really shouldn’t have left the hotel. He knew that Angel and Spike would want him to stay close. But damn it, it was daylight and he was capable of handling some things on his own. Wasn’t he?

Continuing his march, Xander confessed to himself that he probably wasn’t. He was, after all, only human and no match for either vampire or demon strength. Sure he’d dusted a few vamps back in the day but always while working as a team. He really did know better than to go out on his own.

And now it was dark and something was out there and Xander needed his lovers to rescue him again. Some things never change.

Angel and Spike moved with vampire speed to Cordelia’s former apartment. They slowed and approached the building with caution, not knowing what to expect. The Kor’chuk demon emerged from the shadows and dropped to his knee in front of Angel.

“Master. Something strange is here. I sense it but can not discover the threat. I am keeping close watch on my charge. He appears to be having a discussion with himself within one of the apartments.” The demon remained prostrated in front of Angel, waiting for his judgment.

Angel and Spike both used their senses to stretch out and find the threat against Xander. The Kor’chuk was right. There was something here but neither Angel nor Spike could get a firm sense of what it was. Motioning for the demon to rise, the vampires headed for the apartment and the demon followed.

Xander nearly leapt out of his skin when the door flew open. Angel simply walked in but Spike was stopped outside the door. He had never been invited in. Xander panicked when he noticed the demon behind Spike and shouted a warning to his lover.

Both Spike and Angel reacted immediately to the panic in his voice, but when Spike realized Xander was referring to the guard, he let out a small chuckle. “No worries, pet. This one’s with us.”

Xander sighed his relief. Until he noticed that Angel was stalking purposefully towards him. He backed up a step and his legs met the couch. When Angel was nose to nose with the human, he grabbed the man by the arms and gave him a small shake. “What the hell were you thinking Xander?” Angel didn’t wait for the answer however and crushed Xander in his arms.

Spike growled by the front door. Xander’s muffled come in was enough for him and he rushed to Xander’s side. “Have you lost your mind whelp? You know better than to strike out on your own. And after dark? Really Xan. You trying to dust me yourself? Cause seriously whelp, I really don’t like waking up and you not being there.”

Xander reached out and pulled Spike to him. His reasons now for leaving the hotel seemed silly. It really wouldn’t have hurt anything to wait for his lovers to wake and let them go with him. Well, they may have thought it a bit odd that he wanted to visit Cordelia’s apartment and its resident ghost, but he was sure they would have let him come if he had asked.

Surrounded by his lovers, Xander felt his sense of security return. He thought they at least deserved an explanation for his actions. “Well, now it seems pretty stupid of me, I know. I just wanted to pick up some clothes and a few tools so I could do some work around the hotel. I should have waited for you. I just figured I’d be gone for a couple hours, in the day time and it wouldn’t be a big deal. Coming here was kind of a last minute thing and I lost track of time.”

Phantom Dennis ruffled Xander’s hair. It seemed the vampires weren’t the only ones smitten with the man. Angel saw Xander’s hair move and knew the ghost had found his next object of devotion. Not that Angel planned to let Xander come to visit but it was sweet to see.

Angel addressed the ghost. “Dennis, any chance you could help us figure out what’s out there. Spike and I can sense something but don’t know what it is. I don’t want to take Xander out there until I know it’s safe.”

Dennis floated a book towards Angel and only his vampire reflexes stopped it from hitting him in the head. Angel glanced at the book in his hand. It was a dictionary.

Angel looked up, clueless and passed the book to Spike. “Any thoughts?” He asked his childe.

“What the hell does a bloody dictionary have to do with anything?” Spike grumbled. Why the hell was his Sire trying to communicate with this daft ghost? Both vampires were still pondering what the dictionary could have to do with the force they felt outside when Xander spoke up.

“He’s trying to tell you that it’s a spell.” Both vampires looked at the man with confusion but they saw his hair get ruffled again and figured that the ghost was rewarding him for understanding the clue.

The human addressed the ghost. “Dennis, do you know what kind of spell it is?” Xander waited but nothing moved in the room. He addressed his lovers. “He doesn’t know. He must just be able to sense the magic.”

The Kor’Chuck demon spoke from the doorway. “Master, if my brothers were here we may be able to get a better sense of the threat. We are very sensitive to most magic and are stronger together.”

Angel released Xander from his hold and moved towards the phone. It came flying through the air towards him and into his hand. Nodding his thanks to Dennis, he dialed the hotel and requested that the other two demons be sent to the apartment.

Spike moved to Xander’s front and pulled the human against him. He was still furious with the man for leaving the hotel without either him or Angel. The desire to beat Xander senseless for putting himself at risk was rising in the vampire. Not that he really would beat Xander but it was tempting when he got himself into these messes.

When Angel finished his call, he moved back towards Xander. “Xander, you realize that we will be having a very serious discussion about your safety just as soon as this is over, don’t you?”

Xander nodded miserably from his position in Spike’s arms. He met Angel’s eyes over the other vampires shoulder. Angel was relieved to see the misery there; hopefully that meant Xander understood the seriousness of the threats against him.

“So, pet, what’s in all the bags?” Spike’s question was just the distraction Xander needed. He moved to the bags from the hardware store first and started pulling out a variety of tools. He listed their various uses with much interest, not noticing the glazed look in both vampires’ eyes. After several minutes of describing his purchases, he moved onto the other bags. Both vampires were appalled at the clothing Xander pulled from the bag.

Fashion was not one of Xander’s strengths.

Fortunately they were saved from commenting by the arrival of the other two demons. The Kor’Chuk demons gathered into a circle and joined hands, beginning a chant. After several minutes, they stopped and looked warily at their master.

Recognizing the look as one of concern, Angel moved towards the demons and ushered them out into the hall. He firmly closed the door behind him, closing Xander in with Spike and waiting for them to tell him what they learned.

Spike took the opportunity to move Xander’s body into a better position and began devouring the human’s lips. He knew his Sire didn’t want the whelp to hear what was going on. He would be able to hear everything through the door. Fortunately, human hearing wasn’t as sensitive but he figured the least he could do was provide a distraction.

As his lips moved over Xander’s, Spike quickly felt his passion rising. He wanted his pet badly, had wanted him from the moment he crawled into bed next to him that morning. He pressed his hips against Xander’s and moaned when he felt Xander’s erection pressed firmly against his own.

Deepening the kiss, he stroked his tongue into Xander’s waiting mouth and their tongue’s tangled together. Spike broke the kiss when Xander began gasping for air and moved his attention to the human’s neck. The skin there was delicious and Spike could feel the pounding pulse just under the skin. He licked and sucked at the flesh there, marking the human’s tender neck before moving to the other side to repeat the process.

Xander’s legs went weak under Spike’s assault. He felt himself being moved and struggled to keep himself upright. The feel of Spike’s body against his, the lips moving against his neck, and the hands moving over his back and sides and onto his ass.

He nearly stumbled when he felt the press of the couch against his legs and Spike lowered him to the cushions before stretching out on top of the human and continuing the assault with lips and teeth.

He was still focused on the conversation outside the door but from what he could hear there wasn’t much he could do to help at the moment and decided to continue exploring the warm body below his.

He pulled up Xander’s shirt and moved his lips to the flesh there. He nibbled at licked at the exposed nipples, blowing on them before returning his mouth to the tender skin. When both nipples were puckered and hard, Spike pulled the shirt over Xander’s head and began kissing every inch of uncovered skin.

His hand had drifted to Xander’s crotch, rubbing the hard erection he felt and as his fingers moved to the button of the jeans, the door opened and Angel interrupted.
