Chapter 22

Across the other side of town a dark figure stepped through the door of the abandoned warehouse. Standing around six feet tall shrouded by a hooded black cloak he surveyed his surroundings, turning to look back into the building he smirked as he watched his partner as she glided effortlessly through the opening towards him.
“Come Morete, we meet with the others soon.” He said leaning in to smoothly kiss her.
“Oh Morgath, enough of that, we have business to attend to and if I am going to get the bones of Ceridon we must organise everything now.” She stated abruptly.
“I know that my love, but we are almost ready with the first ritual you should relax a little, there’s nothing in our way now.” He tried to placate his partner.
Morete glared at him and sighed heavily. “I know that, but there is something wrong, the demon clans are being destroyed and we have yet to find out who or what is doing it, we must concentrate on the mission or we will never become the rulers that we have planned for all these years.”
“We will find the slaughterers and we will destroy them, nothing will stand in our way this time, we have worked too hard for things to go wrong, I give you my honour as head of the Meridian clan that nothing will stop us.” He stated honourably.
Morete smiled at her lover and stood a little taller as she spoke. “Well then my love, if you can give me your honour then I can only believe in you, but I will not give up my heritage for anything do you understand.” She finished.
“Yes I understand, once we have all the rituals complete we will rule over this land together as it is meant to be. We will conquer where other lesser beings have failed.
With this said they linked arms and walked down the deserted street and towards their future toward what they believed was their destiny.

Back across town, Willow had collapsed to her knees she was in total shock at what she was witnessing.
“Will, what’s wrong?” Xander approached cautiously.
“No Xander stay away please, this can’t be right, it can’t be her.” Willow pleaded with her friend a look of pure terror across her face.
Kennedy was getting worried she had not seen Willow react like this, she looked pleadingly at Buffy willing her to try to find out what the hell was going on. Buffy caught her eye and with a silent understanding Buffy moved forward toward her best friend.
“Will, come on lets just calm down it’s not that bad is it?” Buffy spoke quietly as she continued her movements towards the red head.
“Depends on whether this is actually Anya or not.” The red head replied flatly.
“What? Anya? As in my Anya? As in the Anya I was going to marry? As in the Anya that died in Sunnydale who’s probably under a pile of rubble as we speak Anya? No there has to be a mistake.” Xander babbled in confusion as emotion began to surface.
Buffy moved the rest of the way toward the body lying on the ground, she slowly bent to her knees and gently swept some hair away from the persons face.
”Oh my god, Anya!” She stated in shock, she thought Willow was seeing things, but now she was seeing it for herself. Anya formerly Anyanka the ex vengeance demon who was killed along with the others at Sunnydale High when they had gallantly fought and beaten back the first was lying on the ground in front of her.
Xander couldn’t take it, he marched over to the body on the ground and quickly turned it to face him, he stood back eyes wide mouth hanging open. “No, please, Will please tell me that’s a demon or a mirage or something, it can’t be Anya, we didn’t do a spell or anything it can’t be her.” He began in babble mode again.
“Hey everyone calm down, there has to be some kind of explanation for this, but we ain’t gonna get it if we stand out here all day.” Faith interrupted the three friends.
“Huh! Yeah right um, Xand d’you think you could carry her into the house or do you want me or Faith to?” Buffy asked the tall brunette.
“Uh, um, I got her, I just need to know what the fuck is going on.” He replied gently picking up Anya’s lithe form from the ground.
Kennedy walked over to Willow and gently lifted her, comforting her as they walked back into the house. Faith had gone ahead to wake Giles and Dawn, they needed as many people as possible to help with this one, no one could understand why Anya was back, and also how the hell she was alive.
Once back in the house Xander made his way to the library, he placed Anya on one of the large soft reading couches, Buffy handing him a blanket to cover her while they waited for the others to arrive.
“Buffy, Xander, what is this ab…” Giles stopped mid question as he spied the form of Anya lying unconscious on the couch in front of him. “Good lord.” He stated removing his glasses to clean them. Putting his glasses back on he walked slowly across the room and gently ran the back of his hand against Anya’s cheek. “How did this happen?” He asked turning to Xander.
“Don’t know G-man that’s why the emergency meeting, Willow had an alarm warning and when we went to investigate she was there.” Xander tried to explain the situation.
Soon they were joined again by Willow and Kennedy, Giles went to Willow to try to find out all that she knew, which of cause was nothing as she hadn’t had anything to do with the miraculous appearance of yet another dead member of the Scoobies.
Faith returned with a very sleepy Dawn, the younger was rubbing her eyes profusely whining about being woken at such a bad time, just when her dream was getting interesting, as soon as the stopped in the library Dawn focused the best she could at the people huddled in the room, she then noticed the lithe form lying on the couch, she tilted her head slightly trying to get a better of of who was there. Her breath caught in her throat as the recognition hit her.
“Someone please tell me she’s corporeal.” She enquired.
“Yes Dawn, she’s corporeal and if we are right then that is definitely Anya.” Buffy answered gently.
“Um, how?” Was the one word question everyone was trying to figure out.
“We don’t know D, but we have to hit the books see if we can locate something.” Faith answered.
Soon they were all busy looking through different books and references to anything from reincarnation to Tran molecular movements.

Morgath and Morette entered another large abandoned warehouse and moved to the back wall, Morgath stepped forward and recited a command towards it, when he finished he stepped back and watched as the wall in front of them began to shimmer, soon bricks and metal began to change shape moving piece by piece until they revealed an entrance.
“After you my love.” Morgath offered his partner.
“Thank you.” Morette replied as she passed by him to open the newly formed door.
They were silent as they walked through the tunnels which lead to their destination, the tunnel started to become brighter as they approached a large opening. This opening offered four more doors, again silently they took the second from left door and continued their journey.
“Why do we have to be so far away from everything?” Morette complained.
“My love, we have been through this many times, we both felt the power that was released not long ago, and that power was strong, we have to hide from whatever it is so we can complete our mission. The further away from humans and other demons the more likely we are to succeed.” Morgath tried in vane once more to explain this to his partner.
“I know, it’s just well my feet hurt.” Morette pouted.
“Not far now my love and I’ll have one of the servants to help relieve the soreness if you desire.” Morgath stated.
Soon enough they had arrived at their final destination, before them was the great hall, it was decorated with all manner of antique artefacts that pre-dated many of mans written history. Gold, silver and bronzed statues lined the exterior of the space as if like centuries on duty great columns rose upwards to the vast ceiling.
They made their way through the great hall toward the alter and the rest of their clan. As they approached the cloaked members of the clan stepped back and bowed their heads at the new arrivals.
“Good day to you my Lord, my Lady.” The superior of the clan members offered them.
“Good day to you Klee.” Morgath replied as he and his partner took their places.
“Do you have everything ready for the first ritual?” Morette enquired impatiently.
“We have everything except the Viascon diamond.” Klee answered.
“And when do you get that?” She asked.
“We have traced it whereabouts and we are set to retrieve it tonight, it is located in one of the many museums, the humans who recovered it have no idea of it’s true origin so we should have no problems as there is not sufficient security guarding it.” He answered his leader confidently.
“Good, then we shall perform the first ritual within five days, do not fail me Klee, I will not tolerate any mistake do you understand me.” Morette’s eyes glowed at her minion.
“We will not fail you my Lady, I will stake my life on that.” Klee replied bowing his head.
“Do you have the boy?” Morgath asked.
“Yes Sir, we captured him two days ago, he is not co-operating, he claims he does not know what we are talking about, yet he does not fear us.” Klee offered.
“He must have the books, have you searched his residence?” Morgath enquired.
“Yes Sir we have searched everywhere that we can, we have tried to get him to talk but without success.” Klee answered.
“Where is he? Let me try.” Morette asked.
“He is in the chamber, he is restrained enough to make it safe.” Klee offered.
“My love, please remember we need him so please do not kill him too soon.” Morgath turned to his lover.
“Morgath my love I more than anyone know how important this human is, please let me try.” Morette smiled at her lover.
“Ok. But please be careful.” Morgath replied gently, he knew that his lover would probably be able to get the answers they needed from the boy but he did not want her to get over eager too soon and possibly kill him before they had the chance to get all the information they needed.
Morette made her way through some more twisting passages and came upon the large door, unlocking it she stepped inside and waited for the boy to lift his head.
On hearing the door unlock James kept his head lowered, he did not want to look at his captor.
“How are we today James?” Morette asked her prisoner, hearing no response she continued. “Now, now James, this isn’t going to get us anywhere now is it.” She said in a soft voice.
“Go to hell!” James stated through gritted teeth.
“Oh, I’m planning on bringing that here, you know not so far to travel then.” She sniggered.
James raised his head sharply to take in the pleased look upon his captors face. Seeing him raise his head to her Morette continued on her mission.
“Now James, I know that you know what it is I want so lets cut to the chase, WHERE IS THE BOOK?” She yelled.
James continued to stare at her not once breaking eye contact he did not speak he would die before he told them where the book of Zirex was.
“James, James, James, don’t you realise that by not telling me you are asking for much pain. Now you have to realise that we know your father left the book with you when he was murdered, so save yourself the pain and tell me where to find it.” She tried again.
“Go to hell!” He said defiantly.
“Fine, if you wont tell me then I will have to torture it out of you.” She smiled evilly at him.
James lowered his head once more, to him this conversation was over, he would never tell them where it was, he just hoped that they would not be able to locate it on their own. He was after all the only one who knew of it’s existence many of the people who knew of it thought it had been destroyed in the fifteen hundreds.
Morette turned to leave the room without a second glance at the boy, she could not understand how a young boy could defy her, she was angered but knew that he was their only hope of locating the book that held the information for the final ritual.
She entered the main hall once more to be greeted by her pacing partner. “Well did he tell you anything?” Morgath asked her.
“No, he’s a defiant one I’ll give him that.” She stated as she turned towards the rest of the clan. “Klee I want you to start with the punishment, take it slowly, we have to keep him alive until we find the book, do not fail me.” She told her minion.
“I will not fail you, we will get the information for you as soon as possible.” Klee offered, he hoped that the boy would talk soon or it would be hard to keep him alive, he knew the kind of torture that was expected, he had performed it many times, and many times they had killed the prisoner.
“Good we will leave this with you, we will contact you again once you have the diamond.” Morette replied. Turning back to her partner she motioned for them to leave.
