Chapter 21 for TFL

I woke up the following night to find someone standing over me with a stake in their hand coming down toward my chest. I reached out and caught their wrist right before the stake connected with my heart. I turned my head to see Riley struggling against my hold on him. Danielle: What are you doing here farm boy? I watched him trying to control the pain in his wrist as I tightened my hold. Riley: Nicole won’t see me because of what you did to me last night. I pulled his arm toward me forcing him onto his back on the bed as I straddled his hips. Danielle: Does it look like I care what is going on between you and the slut you sleep with? He sat up a bit to see my eyes flicker with gold for a moment before returning to there normal color. Riley: I don’t care what happened in her…Danielle: You don’t care that she slept with Angelus before you or that she still holds a candle for him as you take her again and again. I sat back on his legs as I crossed my arms over my chest waiting for him to say something. He looked up at me before running his hands over my legs until they reached the tails of my shirt. Riley: Why don’t we show…? I turned toward the door and saw Angel looking at us as a shadow of anger passed over his features.
I got off Riley’s legs and glared at Angel as I stood in front of my bed. Danielle: What are you doing here Angel? Angel: I had a feeling that…Danielle: I thought I told Ashley that I would be fine. He walked over to me as he glared at Riley who was just looking at him as fear rolled off him in waves. Angel: What the fuck is going on? Danielle: Why do you care you walked away from me last night when I needed you? Angel: Sorry I just got my soul back and everything hit me head on…did you sleep with him? I rolled my eyes at him as I crossed my arms over my chest. Danielle: You know what if you think that little of me then you can just leave. I turned to walk into the bathroom when he forced me up against the bed with a growl. Angel: Don’t test me! Tell me why his scent is all over you.

He raised his eyebrow at me as I stood there holding on to the counter top trying to control the anger that was running through me. He glared at me as I stood there with my hands at my side. Angel: That is not what happened and I didn’t even know she was a Slayer at the time I thought she was just some kid. Danielle: I’m sorry that I wanted to have a normal life as much I could before you were going to kill and turn me. I crossed my arms over my chest as I looked at him standing there in the dark room naked. Angel: Why is this such a big deal with you? Danielle: I love and trusted you. I refused to have sex with any guy that I dated cause I wanted you to be my first but as I sat in my room trying to think up ways to say no you were fucking a Slayer…was she better then Buffy cause after hearing that I’m sure you want to go see to tell her that you have you soul back…wait she married Giles guess you have to settle for her cousin! Angel walked up to me and tried to pull me into his arms as I backed away from him. Danielle: Don’t. You had your last taste of me go back to you Slayer. I walked over to the leather chair and had a seat as he looked at me. Angel: Danielle?
I looked up at him as I tried not to cry in front of him like some pathetic human. Danielle: I will not ask you again Angel. Pick up your things and go back to the mansion. I sat there and pouted as I heard him sigh before pulling on his clothes. I closed my eyes as tears threatened to pour from my eyes as I heard him walk over to the door. Angel: I told you once that you had nothing to fear from me having my soul. Danielle: I don’t fear you…I don’t know you…the man I loved would never hide that from me for six years…I beginning to think I should have never made that wish if this is the pain I have to go through. I heard the door open. Angel: I’m sorry…siog. With that the door closed and the tears flowed. Danielle: Liam…how could you.
I sat there for an hour before getting up and walking over to the phone that rested on the desk. I picked up the phone and dialed a number. I waited a few minutes until someone picked up on the other line. Buffy: Hello. Danielle: Buffy…I need your help…can I come by in a few minutes. Buffy: Of course sweetie just let me tell Giles that you’re coming over. I nodded and smiled through my tears. Danielle: Thanks…I’ll be over in an hour. I love you cousin. Buffy: I love you to…see you in a few. I hung up the phone a few seconds later and walked over to the bureau again to see Riley still lying on my bed. I took a deep breath and changed my clothes. With a final look at the boy I left my apartment knowing that he would not be kind to the Slayer when he saw her again…for some reason I didn’t smile at the idea of the young girl being in pain as I should have been. Danielle: She ruined everything.
An hour later I stood outside 1630 Revello Drive waiting for someone to open the door. I nervously fidget with my hands as the door opened to reveal Giles wearing a simple pair of jeans with a gray sweater over a white t shirt. Giles: Danielle…what are you doing here? I looked up at him as tears ran down my cheeks. Danielle: He slept with her. Giles reached out and pulled me into his arms as I snuggled into his chest much like his little girl does everyday. Giles: Let’s get you inside so you can tell Buffy and I all about it. I nodded as he lead me into the house before sitting me down on the couch as Buffy walked into the room carrying a pint of Peanut butter cup fudge ice cream.
I sat there for a few minutes as I swirled my spoon around what was left of my ice cream. Buffy: What happened baby girl? I took a deep breath and looked at her. Danielle: Last night after we left here we went to the Bronze where we talked to Xander and Willow before getting up to dance…it felt like someone was watching me like when I was human. So I turned around and saw that it was Riley but he was sitting talking to the Slayer…Angelus and the others followed her as I distracted Riley. As we talked…he said that Nicole was having Wesley return Angelus soul. I ran to the cemetery and found him in pain on the ground. I took an unneeded breath and went to touch him but when I got there he looked at me as if he didn’t know who I was for a minute and…when he did remember me he acted like a scared cat…I watched as he got up and ran away from me. I took the Slayer and Watcher back to the mansion to get them to explain why…Wesley loved me when I was human and that stupid little girl slept with Angelus…she taunted me…I couldn’t take it so I left. Last night I stayed at Angel’s old apartment when I…woke up tonight Riley was standing over me with a stake. Buffy: Oh god. I nodded as I looked into the bowl of melted ice cream. Danielle: At that moment I wanted him to stake me…everything I had know for six years was a lie…I just didn’t care anymore.
Giles: But Angelus did this before you two were together. Danielle: I don’t mind that it happened I just wished he told me about it instead of hiding it from me. I told him so much when we were together and he didn’t have the nerve to tell me he slept with another Slayer…it’s like I wasn’t good enough for him until the Powers stepped in and restored us to original destiny. Buffy: Danielle you know that’s not true. He loves you a…Danielle: Then why did he run away from me. He come by tonight to find me on top of Riley…nothing happened between Riley and I but I let him think that something did…then we…I can’t believe I just let him do what he wanted after what he did to me…He told me that if he ever got his soul back that we would work it out together and now he’s acting like a spoiled brat. I don’t know what to do anymore sometimes I wish I was still human then I could just run into the sun and he wouldn’t be able to follow me. Buffy moved toward me and wrapped her arms around me as I cried again as someone knocked on the door. Giles got up and walked to the door as Buffy did her best to calm me down.
Giles opened the door and was face to face with Angel. Angel: I need to…Giles grabbed him by the collar and forced him up against the porch as Ripper took over. Giles: What the fuck are you doing here? Angel: I need to talk to you…oh god! As Angel talked Giles pulled a cross from his back jean pocket and placed it against Angel’s chest causing smoke to rise from the wound. Giles: I don’t care what your reasons for being here are but I will not let you hurt Danielle any more then you’ve already have. Do you understand me? Angel: God…please Giles…it hurts. Giles: It better. I walked by to see Giles holding something down. I walked up behind him to see what was going on. Danielle: What’s going on? I looked over his shoulder to see him pressing a cross into Angel’s flesh. I grabbed his arm and tried to pull him away but he wouldn’t move. Danielle: Giles stop! God…Giles you have to stop!
Giles: I thought I would never say this after what Angelus did to me but I wish he was here. He removed the cross as he removed his hand from Angel’s neck letting him fall to the porch as I stood behind him in fear…since the first time I meet Giles I was afraid of what he was going to do. He tossed the cross into the yard before bending down to look Angel in the eye. Giles: I hear that you’ve hurt her in anyway again and I will not be so kind next time. He stood and looked at me as he tried to rein in Ripper before stepping back inside. Giles: I will deal with Wesley tomorrow. I gulped as I saw a faint fire welling in his eyes before he walked inside leaving Angel and I alone once again.
Angel: Danielle…oh god…. I turned and looked at Angel as he tried to get to his feet. Danielle: He will kill you again…and next time I won’t be around to stop him. I turned to go inside when I heard him pleading me to wait. I stood there and just looked at the ring on my finger as I listened to him get to his feet…I thought about everything I went through up to this point…did it really matter? Angel: Danielle I can’t live without you. I need you by my side; please can we talk about this. I tried to keep the hurt out of my voice but it was a lost cause. Danielle: Why? Angel: Because I can’t be the man I was without you. I turned and looked at with tears running down my face. Danielle: No…why her?
He stopped his hand an inch from touching my cheek as I looked at him with pleading eyes. Angel: I don’t know. Danielle: You must have known because you slept with her and you didn’t kill her. I’ve watched you for centuries and I would never think that I would ever say this…but I agree with Darla. He pulled his hand away from me as we stood there just looking at each other. Angel: What? Danielle: She was right…you are not the same man when you have a soul. I looked at him as his eyes widened in surprise. Danielle: I’ve seen so many sides of you throughout the years that it’s hard to find out who you truly are…I love you and even without my soul I will always love you but I can’t be with you right now.
He moved closer to me as I wrapped my arms around myself trying to find some warmth. Angel: What are you saying? Danielle: Aunt Joyce bought the home I grew up in…I’m leaving for Chicago with Riley as soon as possible. He needs to learn how to be a vampire before he can take his revenge out on the Slayer. I will not be with him other then as his Sire…hopeful this time apart will clear my head and let you decide what you want to do now that you have a soul again. He placed his hands on my face as he looked at me. Angel: Are you sure?
I nodded as I placed one hand over his and the other on his chest where the cross have burned him. Danielle: It’s for the best…I told Buffy what I decided and she will explain to Giles that while I’m gone he can not harm you…I’m sorry. I looked up at him as he moved some hair out of my eyes. Angel: Why? Danielle: Because I couldn’t remove your soul…we weren’t meant to be. The tears came down again as he kissed my forehead before placing my head on his chest as I held onto his jacket as his tears fell into my hair. We stayed like that for a few minutes until I pulled away giving him a shaky smile as I gently touched his face one last time. Danielle: Goodbye mo chroi(my love in Gaelic). I pulled away from him letting my fingers slip through his grasp as I disappeared into the darkness. Angelus: You did remove my soul siog (fairy in Gaelic). He stood there for a few minutes before walking into the darkness unaware that Buffy had heard everything. She stepped up to the doorway and looked at the two figures moving in two different directions. With a sigh she closed the door to look after her soul-mate.
It took a full day to gather everything Riley and I would need before out trip to Chicago. I stood by the train as a man placed our things in two separate compartments. Riley: Why can’t we stay to take care of the Slayer? I rolled my eyes as I looked at him. Danielle: Because the moment you face the Slayer she will kill you so unless you want to die tonight I suggest that you get your ass on that train before I do her job myself. Riley mumbled to himself as I walked over to my family and friends to say goodbye.
I gave my family small smiles as I gently kissed little Elizabeth before hugging her father. Giles: Don’t be a stranger. I nodded as a few tears shed my eyes before looking at my cousin as she tried to rein in her tears. She pulled me into a hug as she stroked my hair as if we were still kids before whispering into my ear. Buffy: Be safe and call once you get settled. I nodded as I returned her hug. Danielle: I will. Look after everyone and if you need me to…she nodded as I pulled away from her with a final kiss to her forehead.
I walked over to Spike and the others as Ashley pulled me into a hug as tears ran down her face. Ashley: Why do you have to go? I returned her hug before pulling away slightly to look at her as I wiped away her tears. Danielle: You know the reason why I can’t stay here with him like that…I just need to be out on my own. You all are welcome to visit and I will be greatly upset that you don’t seeing I don’t know how long I will be gone. Yelsin wrapped his arms around us as he kissed my cheek. Yelsin: We’ll take care of everything while you’re away. I nodded as I looked at Dru and Spike who were trying not to show how upset they really where. Danielle: Look after everyone Spike. I walked out of Ashley’s and Yelsin’s embrace to have him pull me close. Spike: I will mum. Dru kissed me on the cheek before whispering something into my ear. Dru: Everything will be right once you return. I gave her a shocked look before giving her a small smile as I turned to look at Willow and Xander.
Xander: Watch out for yourself and if you need to fix something call me before you do anything. I nodded as I gave him a hug before giving one to Willow. Willow: We’ll keep an eye on Nicole and everything until you get back also I placed some protection spells on the compartment so don’t worry about getting hurt when your inside. Danielle: Thank you Willow. She gave me a smile as I took one more look at the people I’ve grown to love over the past six years. I waved goodbye to them as I heard Elizabeth call out to me. Elizabeth: Love ya Danni! I gave them a smile as the door closed behind me before the train pulled out of the station.
I moved to walk to my compartment where I knew Riley would already be when I had the sudden urge to turn around…when I did I noticed Angel standing next to his car dressed as Angelus with a sad smile on his face as he smoked. I took a deep unneeded breath and with a final wave I moved on with my life. I opened the compartment door to find Riley looking everything over. Danielle: Welcome to your life Danielle. With that another chapter closed as a new one began.
