New Sun, New Day
I'm tired of your abuse, I'm tired of being your playtoy. I'm leaving and I'm not coming back. So find yourself another dumb blonde to make your slave, I'm gone, I'm moving on from you. I have no doubt in my mind that this is the best decision I will ever make. Don't look for me, it's over.
Green eyes shone with tears, with pride, with the hopes of a new day bringing a new life to her. The letter she had left to her absuive boyfriend kept replying itself in her head, along with images of fists, kicks, punches, undeniable, the gut wrenching pain, the shouts, the insults, blood, a bloody knife, bile rising at the back of her throat... it kept coming back to her like a bad projector movie stuck on the same scene, everytime it played, bringing in just a little bit more, that detail becoming more vivid.
The cool Colorado wind was sweeping her blonde hair back in forth in the wind, it felt like a soft caress, the air is clean and crisp, refreashing and rejuvinating, and the beautiful red, yelloe, and brown star like leaves, dancing about the maple trees' feet, like merry children playing about grandfather's feet.
Her spirits are high today, lifted high, higher than she can remember in the past two years.
From the corner of her eye, Buffy can spot Kennedy shooting glances at her every now and then, and she smiles softly at the burnette, and she smiles right back, bright as a christmas tree.
Kennedy found her somewhere on the state border in California, beaten, bloody, delusional, and trying to hitch a ride away to anywhere, as long as it was far away from her home, from Sunnydale. Buffy had been surprised at the good natured, gentle demenor the girl had going. Kennedy had fed her, patched her up to the best of her abilities, and now she was allowing her to stay with her here in her home in Colorado.
Buffy is enternally grateful to her, she wonders about her, thinks perhaps she is too good to be true, but she has to remind herself that not everyone is born sick and twisted, not everyone wants to hurt others, laugh at their pain, kick them when they're down.
"So Buffy, I might have forgotten to mention this, but um, I'll be leaving for a bit, I have to go college, get a few things I left there, don't worry, it's only for two days." Kennedy assures her with a small pat on her thigh, "Besides," she takes a left down an old country road, much like the ones in books, with wooden fences and old wagons parked on the side of the roads, green grass littered with the leaves from the nealr nakes trees, "My sister will be home. She's really good company, you'll love her."
Buffy grins crookedly at her, "If she's anything like you, I'm sure I will."
"Nice one," Kennedy nods, "But no. My sister's an angel. She's amazing, beautiful, amazing, really smart, gentle. She's like a big teddy bear." she chuckles softly, a tranquility to her, "I'm sure you two will hit it off tremendosly. You like her, if there's anyone in the world who truly is a kind person at heart, it's my sister."
Buffy is awed. Kennedy seems really fond of her sister, it makes her a little sad. Her younger sister is probably having a complete breakdown along side her mother and Angel.
Joyce, her mother, thinks Angel is well, an angel. He can do no evil in her eyes, he's the perfect man that every mother wants their daughter to have, he's a dream boy with his defined looks and sweet voice, the bastard couldn't hurt a fly, once again, in her mother's eyes.
But Dawn, she saw it before it ever even started, she warned her plenty of times, told of Angel's little nights out, his study buddy, but she never believed her, thought she was doing it because, well, a little sister's goal in life is to make big sis's life horrible.
She'll miss Dawn terribly, she already does, maybe one day she can go back and bring Dawn with her, after all, they're only six years apart, it won't be long before the little brat can legaly move out.
"Well," Kennedy brings her jeep to a halt, "here we are,"
Buffy's jaw drops in awe. She must definately be in a fairy tale or something. The house is massive, two stories high running from east to west for a good eighty feet. Ivory white pillars with royal blue borders bring out the vine carefully sculpted into the rock, and the patio is lite with a dimed light, five chairs expertly sat. The bushes alongside the house's edge are cut neat and are almost perfect with a lazy looking puppy lying on the footsteps, sleeping.
'...home sweet home." Kennedy drapes her arm around Buffy's shoulder, giving her a quick freindly squeeze, "You like?"
"Uh-huh," Buffy thought her house was nice, it's run in rat infested roach plauged motel compared to this five star, world known hotel. She finds herself feeling a little under dressed, she could walk in to find a ball with royalty gliding about the golden floors with finely pressed tuxedos and corsett laced gowns and-
"Buffy?" Kennedy waves her hand in front of the gawk blonde, it's not a surprise at all that she's a little star struck.
'Huh? What?" Buffy finally notices Kennedy's waving hand, she shruggs at Kennedy, giving her an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, what was that again?"
Kennedy rolls her eyes good naturedly, jutting her head to towards the coral Buffy failed to notice in the front yard, "I said that's my sister."
Buffy follows Kennedy's jut to her right. If the house amazed her, the honey eyed beauty with flowing chocolate hair, tanned complexion, rose petal lips, and breath taking smile is knocking her down.
She can feel a blush creeping from her neck to her face as the girl looks down at her from atop a fine white stallion, a little half smile, half smirk thing going.
"Teddy?" Kennedy breaks her sister and Buffy's gawk fest with a cheesy grin and gleaming eyes.
"Hey Kenny," she tosses one leg over the horse and dismounts, dropping the reins to the stallion's side, "stay Xander."
"Miss me?" Kennedy embraces her sister tightly, Buffy smiles at them, they must be really close to each other. She can imaginr why though, they're really far away from town, a good fifteen miles into the country side, but also, plesant people mesh with pleasant people.
The girl pulls away, still leaving her arms around Kennedy's shoulders, "Hello." She greets Buffy.
Buffy feels a slight panic attack coming on, what is she supposed to say, what does she do, does she bow, does she cower away from these fine people? Thank you brain, she chants when she extends her hand out to her, "Hi, Buffy Summers."
"Faith Lehane."
"Faith," it rolls perfectly off of her lips with a sensuality to it, "lovely name."
Faith blushes a soft hue of pink as she takes her hand and gives it a firm shake, the wind tossing her banana curls about.
"I hate to rush but, I have to unload Teddy, gotta get back to college, and there's a snow storm coming, I wouldn't want to get stranded in a Colorado storm." Kennedy moves about, taking a suitcase from the backseat.
"Here," Faith follows behind her, taking the bulging case from her, "let me help you."
"You two okay here?" She's in a big hurry, Faith barely shuts the door for her when she kicks up her engine, setting the stick to second gear, "I could drop you guys off in town if you'd like, Anya's maybe?"
Faith waves her off, tapping the hood of the white slightly muddied jeep, "We're good here Kenny, just be careful please."
"I will," Kennedy tilts her head up, waving at Buffy, "Hey Buffy, it's all good, Faith's really good company, you'll like her."
"Yeah, thank you Kennedy."
"No problemo, see ya in bit." She backs away, flipping the jeep and racing down the road leaving a trail of dust behind her like Speed Racer.
Buffy watches Faith shake her head and say something under her breath with a low snort of amusement. Suddenly shw whirls, startling her and the horse.
"So B, you're from big Cali?" She takes possesion of the reins again and walks the horse to the shedded coral, patting the side of his face a few times before shutting and locking the door.
"Yeah." She follows the burnette to the porch, she drops the suitcase to the floor and drags a lounge chair towards Buffy.
Buffy stares at the chair like it's threatening her life, what are they doing?
Faith seems to pick up on her silent chaos, "It will start snowing in about ten minutes, I would like to see it when it starts, if that's okay with you?"
Buffy drops into her chair like a bomb nearly breaking it. "I don't mind at all." she whispers, a little too breathy for her liking.
"Cool. Thanks."
Buffy nods, settling herself into the chair, she zip up her jacket, she can already feel the cold starting up, but strangely, it's not as cold as it should be. She smiles to herself as she catches Faith looking at her from the corner of her eye, a lift to her pouty lips.
Kennedy is right, she's loves her already.
