Revelations
Giles slowly fingers the seal lost in memory.
“It’s been a while since I have thought of Hogwarts.”
He slow opens the envelope and pulls out the thick letter inside and starts to read it.
Dear Rupert,
I know it has been a longtime since I have last written to you, I am sorry, but I need your help….
Giles is standing looking out a window, a glass of brandy in one hand and a letter in the other. Buffy, Willow, Xander and Dawn walk back into the apartment laughing followed by a sour-faced Spike, each of them holing about 5 letters each. Giles turns and a small smile crosses his face.
Xander wipes at the tears running down his face, “Man, did you see Spike’s face when that letter hit him in the face…” He starts laughing again.
Spike growls, “Can it or I’ll…”
Buffy laughs, “Or you’ll what? Run circles around him, give him a hug, flowers?”
“Just wait until I get this chip out.”
Buffy asks, “Yeah, Yeah. Giles you find anything interesting in those letters?
“Yes I did, you all may want to sit down.”
“Ok G-man, but where do you want the letters?”
“Don’t call me G-Man and the desk is fine.”
Buffy asks, “So Giles, what’s in the letters?
Giles motions for the gang to sit. “You may find what I am about to tell you hard to believe is true. But believe me it is and I can prove it.”
“Bloody hell, I feel the need for a drink.”
Giles looks at Spike and nods. “Like you ever needed a reason to drink. Brandy is on the desk.”
Spike walks over to the desk and gets himself a large glass of brandy and walks over and refills Giles’ glass.
“Thanks, Ok, First off, the reason that there are so many letters around town is that because of living on the Hellmouth no one could pinpoint my location in this town without knowing where I lived. So Professor Dumbledore decided to paper the town with the letters to make sure I got at least one. Second, Professor Dumbledore is a friend of mine who works at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry…”
Willow pipes up, “Why didn’t I hear about this school before?”
“May I finish before the questions start?”
“Sorry Giles, please continue.”
Giles sighs, “I went to Hogwarts before going into the Watcher program like my father before me. Never really wanted to be a Watcher, but dad expected it of me. And since I became a Watcher I have enjoyed every minute of it, anyways, beck to the letter. I have kept in touch with some of my friends that I mad while there and now they are asking for help.”
Spike laughs, “Who would want to help a bunch of wand wavers?”
Giles looks up at Spike with surprise, “Who know about Hogwarts?”
“Yes, went there for a few years, didn’t like it much, to many rules. Still have my wand somewhere. Surprised?”
“That you went there, yes. That you didn’t like it, no.” Giles pulls off his glasses and polishes them, “Professor Dumbledore is asking that we come and teach some classes there to “better prepare” some of the students. He has included letters for you to read.”
Buffy asks, “Teach? What would we teach and why does this Dumbledore guy want us?.
Giles hands Buffy her letter. “Professor Dumbledore and as for why I believe the letters will explain.” He hands a letter to Willow, Xander and to his surprise Spike.
“Hey, don’t I get one?”
“You are a little young to teach other students Dawn.” Giles says.
Dawn pouts as the rest of the gang reads there letters. She noticed that Giles still had some papers in his hand. “Giles, who are those letters for?”
“These are for the other people once they get here I have called them and they are on their way.”
Willow looks up slightly distracted, “Who is coming?”
“Oz, Faith, Wesley, Anya, Angel and um …”
Buffy looks up from her letter, “And who, Giles?”
“Um … Riley”
Buffy yells, “Riley, why him, he is away on his special ops deal and doesn’t care about m-… us.”
Giles takes off his glasses and pinches the bridge of his nose, “I have no clue, but Professor Dumbledore said he would explain when he got here. It will take a few days for the others to get here and Professor Dumbledore will be here in a week to explain. Buffy have you finished your letter yet, because there are things that we have to talk about when you are done.”
Buffy glares at Giles, “Almost give me a minute.” Buffy starts to read the rest of her letter.
Once Buffy finishes her letter, she looks up at Giles, “Outside.” She gets up and walks out the door. Giles sighs and follows her.
“Ok first off explain why Dumbledore wants Faith and Riley and then explain how he knows about Dawn.”
Giles sighs, “It is easier to explain the second first. He knows about Dawn because he is one of my sources that I had researching about what the key does and secondly he wants Faith because he believes that she can be a help and that he may be able to help her come to terms with what she has done and he wants Riley because of the training that he has had and wants him to help train the students in “Muggle Defense” so that if they do not have their wands they are not defenseless.”
“Angel?”
“No clue, but I think it is because he has helped up before and maybe will again. Also I think Albus wants to pick his brain.”
“Albus?”
“Professor Dumbledore”
“Oh, ok, why does he want Dawn to attend Hogwarts?”
“Albus believes and so do I that she will be able to do magic with a wand due to the fact that she is basically magical energy in human form. And also the protection on the school will help us protect her from Glory. Albus wants to test everyone here to see who can also do magic with wands.”
“Oh” Buffy says before becoming silent as she thinks things over. “Let me see the letter for Dawn.”
Giles hands over the letter for Dawn and Buffy scans it. Then she hands it back to Giles.
“Give it to her in a few days after everyone else is here, but before the Professor gets here.” Buffy says as she walks back into the apartment.
Buffy walks in and looks at the others that are gathered there, “So we have about a week to decide. Dawn it is time for us to go home, good night all.”
Dawn gathers her stuff and leaves with Buffy after saying good bye.
