Spelled Mate (complete)

Chapter 2

Xander made it to Giles without anymore trouble. Once at the Ex-Watchers door he started pounding like his life depended on it and for all he knew it did. It took only a few minutes before the door swung open to reveal a cross looking Giles, “I hope you have a good reason for waking me up at 6:30 in the morning.”

“Oh I do, I really do,” Xander said as he stormed past Giles and started passing by the couch, “sorry to wake you but something Hellmouthy has happened. It’s the only explanation, I mean you just don’t become someone’s mate overnight. Things like that just don’t happen unless some supernatural thing causes it.”

“Really Xander you need to calm down, otherwise I will never figure out what is going on.” Giles had already taken the glasses off his face and was polishing them as was his custom when annoyed or uncomfortable.

“What’s going on is that Spike thinks I am his mate, and not mate like friend, oh no, mate like life partner, I already asked. He hated me yesterday so there is no way this could have happened unless some…some force did it, and you being the in the know guy, I came here.”

“Oh my, and was he the one that did that,” Giles said as he pointed to Xander’s throat.

“Yeah, that damn bleached menace doesn’t know how to keep his mouth to himself, which, I guess, is rather common since most vampires have trouble with that, the whole biting thing and all. Anyway do you realize what type of stress this is causing me. I will probably be in therapy for years just dealing with this one morning, and this…this thing isn’t even over yet.” Xander ranted while Giles headed toward his books.

“We will figure this out Xander, but for now why don’t you sit down before you break something.”

“Yeah, okay. I am kinda tired, I mean I didn’t get my full 10 hours of sleep since I woke up early and had the whole Spike-mate thing going on. I think I will just lay down on your nice comfy couch and sleep.”

“Hmm yes that’s fine.” Came the distracted reply Giles offered as he skimmed though some books he thought might help.

Xander had woken around ten and had decided to help Giles with research, thus enabling him to avoid the leach like vamp that was currently lurking at his home. By the time noon came around they were no closer to an answer then when they started. Figuring they needed more help they called a Scooby meeting for later in the evening.

It was after dark when Buffy, Willow, and Tara showed up, “So what’s the deal, another apocalypse?”
“Right now Buff, I wish it was,” Xander said as he went back to his pacing, “It seems the old Xander charm has switched genders, so no demon females for me, oh no I get the male variety now. In fact I don’t just get any demon but the very one that staying with me. I thought it was bad when he was hating me and staying with me but I would love to have that back, because him claiming me as his mate and staying with me has whole new ick factors that I never imagined.”

“You mean Spike, male vampire Spike, I love Dru Spike, has claimed you as a mate.” Buffy said as she tried to wrap her mind around the unbelievable information Xander had just tactlessly threw at them.

“That’s the gist of it.”

“Ooh well who wants cookies, I do, so I’ll just run along and make some. Chocolate chip good for everyone, O.K. good, I’ll be back and with cookies, lots of cookies.” Willow said in traditional willow babble and edged her way to the door.

“Willow Rosenberg, you stay right there.” Came the surprisingly Ripper like voice of Giles from the kitchen. “What did you do?”

“Well it was just an itsy bitsy little spell. See Xander was worried about the whole evil undead guy who hates his guts staying with him so I figured that I would do this simple little spell I found that would make Spike’s demon not see him as food. That way he wouldn’t have to worry about it so much. It was only supposed to make Spike nicer to Xander there was nothing about mates included. I don’t know what went wrong, I even triple checked everything before casting and all ingredients were fresh so it should have worked. Well it worked but not like that.”

“Breathe,” came the quiet voice of Tara from Willow’s right.

Willow cast an appreciative glance at Tara before turning back to the rest of the gang. Giles was pinching his nose to stem off an oncoming headache, Xander was staring opened mouthed at her and Buffy simple looked confused.

“Willow I am very disappointed in you doing a spell like that without any guidance or say so of the people involved and we will be having a talk later but for now do you have the spell with you, maybe we can go over it and see what went wrong.”

“Yeah I do, but I swear I did everything accordingly I didn’t even skimp for cheaper ingredient substitutes, and really why is hair of frog really so expensive, I mean-“

“Willow!” exclaimed Giles, Xander, and Buffy.

“Oh right sorry, anyway I did it strictly to the letter so I really don’t know what went wrong.”

“I might have the answer to that.”

A.N. Well another chapter done. Two chapters in two days, just to let you know this isn't normal but I am sick so I don't have much to do or feel like doing. Oh and does any one know Giles Lady friend? if not I will just make up a name.
