Chapter 2
**************
We are not born all at once, but by bits. The body first, and the spirit later; and the birth and growth of the spirit, in those who are attentive to their own inner life, are slow and exceedingly painful. Our mothers are racked with the pains of our physical birth; we ourselves suffer the longer pains of our spiritual growth.

So cold . . .

Alone . . .

Dark . . .

Everything and nothing hurt. Breath escaped him, frozen in lungs that no longer expanded . . . Just frozen. Stuck in his head with nothing to do but think and feel. At first he hoped. Hoped that someone somewhere would come and release him from this purgatory, away from this living death. Then darker emotions fluttered through his head . . .Sorrow . . . Fear . . .Hate .. . .Rage.

He wanted to scream or yell at someone! Maybe have an intimate chat with his body . . . If being asleep gave you a headache then it was time to damn well get up!! But the darkness of sleep called to him, its icy grip held him tight. He wasn’t going nowhere. The icy blanket that covered his being was stronger then his will.
So cold . . .

So alone.

Necropolis 3024 Deep in space April 5th
************************************************

The depths of space, so void of warmth and overwhelmingly vast. Within the darkness a ship made of sleek lines and dark metal sailed through the black sea. The twisted metal craft with its white wraiths and dust fluttering around behind it looked like a comet from afar. The behemoth cut through with an armada following close behind it. It was impressive and deadly looking. It seemed to be drenched with darkness and death.

Within the leading ship staring out of one of the darkened windows was the new Lord Marshal. He was glaring out into space, his un-goggled eyes shining within the shadow of the room. The scowl only darkened when a knock sounded on the tall gothic doors. Without a word from him a group of armored men came into the room. Riddick growled. “Report.”

All the soldiers stood at attention, then a bulky dark skinned man came forward. “My Lord our ranks need replentishing . . . The people feel fearful when our soldiers numbers are low. I fear the nobles will riot if we don’t replentish our people.” Said Scales as he shifted from foot to foot under ‘The Riddick’s’ focused gaze.

The tall silver eyed man smirked. “The stuffed shirts can’t protect themselves, what else is new?”

Riddick stalked toward the wet bar in this monstrosity of a room and poured himself a hard drink. He gestured for the others to sit and plopped himself gracelessly into a overly stuffed chair. “So what the hell do you want me to do about it? Hmm?”

The lords sitting around the room shifted when a young soldier spoke up. “Lord Marshal we are going to be passing a planet called LuhCree. It is over populated. The people of the planet would really benefit from our intervention. If we could thin them out and add to our ranks I believe it would solve both our p-problems.” Commander Shar said to his shoes more then to the people around him.

Vaako nodded. “That could work . . . We could also restock the food supplies as well. The people of LuhCree are good at farming if nothing else. Their orphanages are always overflowing and their defenses are pitiful at the most. It would take very little force to overcome them, my Lord.”

Sitting in his seat with a leg over the arm of the chair Riddick nodded. A good fight would do him wonders. It had been two months since he seen a good fight and four since he became Lord Marshal. “ Do it.”
With their orders given the seven commanders marched out the door. “Sssorrrrennn . . .” Riddick purred. He watch through lidded eyes as Vaako stopped and turned around fluidly.

“Yes Lord Marshal?” Vaako asked as he closed the door. He smirked as Riddick practically snarled as being called by his title. He stalked over to Riddick till he stood in-front of him, his legs brushing his lords knees.

“Is there something you needed?” He tilted his head to the side and let his hair fall across his shoulder. He didn’t even move as his lord stood up nose to nose with him.

“Didn’t you forget to give me something . . .?” Riddick rumbled as he scented the side of Vaako’s neck. “Something important . . .”

“Really? I’m sure I preformed all the duties required of the First Among Commanders . . .What could I have forgotten?” Riddick let a little growl sound in the back of his throat. He could see the playful gleam in Vaako’s green-ish eyes, the man looked quite lively when he loosened up some.

“Shut up.” Was all the warning Vaako got as Riddick’s lips closed over his. He groaned as his Lord’s swift tongue dived into his mouth coaxing his into play. He melted into Riddick’s arms and let his Lord Marshal giuld them to the bed.

Planet LuhCree of the NarCree galaxy year 3024 April 6th
***************************************************

On a little red planet, within a white room filled with dusty books and the smell of antiseptics, were three men. Each man was wearing white tech coats and were hold odd scanner devices.

“What’s so special about this thing?” Said the young red haired tech as he patted the circular grey dome. “It looks like a cryo pod but its far too clunky! Who would risk sleeping in this thing?”

The tech with glasses rubbed his bald head. “It’s old Gary. It came from Earth. They say its over it’s over a thousand years old!”

Gary stuttered. “A THOUSAND!!! Cryo can only be used for about twenty years MAX!! You want to open the thing? You know we're just going to be pulling a body out, right?”

Frank the oldest tech who seemed to be ignoring the others finally spoke. “We won’t know till we open it, boyo. Twenty years is the limit but once in a while someone survives past that. And we're historians! Imagine! What stories this corpse can tell us.”

The bald tech shook his head. “Yes but a thousand years! I don’t really think so. It could crumble before our eyes! We should be doing something more important like worrying about those damn Necromongers! They’re supposed to be passing our planet soon!”

Frank snorted. “You know that the Necros past Heloin without attacking any more planets. Why would they come to our bum fuck planet? All we have are lots of people and corn!! Why you think the Lord Marshal is out of corn, Fred?” He said as he started plugging in wires to the bulky pod.

“Well . . .no. But it could happen!” Said Fred as he started typing quite fast on a key board.

As the last wiry was plugged in the pod started to blink. It hummed, the sound so low it could be barely heard by the three men in the room.

~DEFROSTING AND RESTORING PROCESS COMMENCING. ONE HOUR AND THREE MINUTES TILL COMPLETION.~ Said a blocky computer voice from the pod. The humming became louder and the pod literally started to shake. They watched as the glass that had been frosted over for many years began to slowly melt. The three man watched as an outline could be seen through the thinning ice. They gasped.

“What the hell is it?” Yelped Fred as he backed away. He started muttering things about Mecca and being a good man.

Gary rolled his eyes. “Get a grip Fred! Your acting like you’ve never seen a half human! You know when man started traveling the stars they adapted to their new homes. On Aquan, the water planet, people have gills behind their damn ears!”

Frank nodded. “This one is a earthling that was. Evolution is a wondrous thing. Maybe we all have a bit of cat in us.” Laughing Frank slapped a still shaky Fred on the shoulder and went back to work.

Within an hour and three minutes on the dot a whistle went off like that of a coffee pot or waffle maker and with a click of many locks the pod door opened. Laying with hands folded, beaded hair flowing over both shoulders, and a grey-ish tail laid across his long legs, was a young man. He was as still as a china doll but when they watched closely they could see the faint movement of his chest taking in air.

Gary so awed by the sight of a creature he had never seen before moved closer to touch it. His hand had grazed the white skin for no more then a second when luminous golden brown eyes locked with his. He stopped breathing as he noticed the eyes shape-shifting from normal pupils to eyes slit like a cats. Fascinating!

Then the creature spoke. Like razor blades covered in honey, threat was obvious in the sweet purr of a voice. Shame they couldn’t understand the alien.

“He’s speaking the dead ancient language of earth! It was lost when everyone started speaking common tongue over seven hundred years ago!” Said Frank as he tried to record the sounds on his data pad.

“Do you understand him, Frank?” Asked Fred in a timid voice.

“No just a word here and there. Like ‘get’ or ‘here’ and ‘I’. Nothing that will tell us what he is saying.” Getting a tranquillizer dart ready, he wasn’t going to let the greatest discovery of his life go. He was about to fire the gun when the creature jumped out of the pod with inhuman grace. It growled then kicked Frank’s feet out from under him.

*************

Xander groaned as he sat up. He felt like he went one on one with a ten foot tall bull demon, his head was pounding. He could barely hear but his sense of smell was working overtime. He was in a hospital, the antiseptic smell burn in his nose. Sitting up Xander looked around. “Willow? Buffy? Kids? Where is everyone? Hello?”

Xander blinked up at the nerd like guys in white Dr. Evil type of coats. They had ‘I wet my pants and I liked it!’ looks on their faces. The one closest was spazing out, he seamed to be jumping or vibrating?

“How did I get here?! Where’s my friends? What did you do with them!!!?” Xander asked only getting gibberish in return. Xander frowned. They weren’t even trying to talk to him, just to each other. He watched as the older heavy set man picked up a gun like thing, a gun like thing with a needle on it. A gun like thing that the Dr. Evil reject was pointing at the Xan-man.

Jumping out of the bed thing he was in, Xander kicked at the man before him then kick the gun thing away. He blinked as it seamed far to easy, the man before him was weaponless and on the floor like he wanted. Usually he had a problem or two with getting the results he wanted. Shrugging he grabbed the man by the neck. He squeezed and growled low in his throat. He was surprised that the growl sounded menacing. “Where are my girls!!!? What did you do with THEM!!!”

He frowned as the three men started babbling. Then Xander noticed a bit of red coming from the man’s neck. He let go and nearly had a heart attack when he examined his nails. They were shining and pointed to a sharp tip and much thicker then they ever been in his whole life. He stood stiffly as the three white coat guy’s huddled up together talking gibberish.

“What did you DO TO ME!!!!”
