Chapter One: Into Hell

Six Years Prior: 1993

Two little girls were running round and round, not a care in a world. They played on one of the few playgrounds that graced the bleak, industrial, urban scene that is Los Angeles, the alleged City of Angels. The first child climbed the ladder to the top of the metal structure, flicking her red-blonde hair behind her shoulder and called out to her friend down lower. The lower girl climbed up quickly as well and sat up there with her friend, idly messing with her gold-blonde hair. Her hazel eyes flickering mirthfully as she giggled at a joke the strawberry-haired girl said. Hazel eyes met violet ones and the two best friends enjoyed every minute of being together, as two friends of that age do. Soon though, night started to fall and shadows approached them menacingly, figures of terror to them. They screamed and jumped down, the blonde injuring herself. The other girl helped her run away, but more shadows approached and consumed them, bringing them into darkness, one final scream resounded.

“Amy…Amelia, wake up Amy, we’re almost there.” A older woman’s voice said with a strong Welsh accent. An red-blonde haired girl, the same in the dream, just older, stirred and sat up, her face sweating as she saw the same nightmare she saw for months now in her sleep, haunting her.

“Kay, Mom.” The girl pushed her silky hair out of her face and behind her ear. She gazed out the window, trying to clear her mind. Hoping to get her attention-deficit brain off her best friend she had to leave behind. She was saddened every time she thought of Liz, or as other people called her, Buffy. Though she didn’t get how you could get Buffy from Elizabeth. It made sense people called her “Morgan” Since her name was Amelia LeFey.

Things passed through her head rapidly. She didn’t really try to hang onto a thought for very long because it was much too difficult. Why try to concentrate if you don’t have to? She saw the sign that said: “Welcome to Sunnydale” in this cheesy lettering and she mentally groaned. ‘This is going to be soooo fun, living here…’ she thought sarcastically. And the thought left her just as quickly as it arrived.

As they entered the town, her idea of this “Sunnydale” lowered, plummeted, and dug itself into the very mouth of Hell. So it goes. It seemed like this perfect little town where everyone knew your name and all that other nonsense. After a little time passed they pulled up to what would be her new house, number whatever Revello Drive and her dad parked the car in the driveway. It was 7:00, but the sun was still up, for now. She was going to be a 6th grader in Sunnydale Middle School. That thought just totally thrilled her, new school, no friends, and the high potential for it to stay that way. She got out of the car and looked next door, what she saw intrigued her. She saw this fire-haired, green-eyed girl. She bit her bottom lip as her shyness took over and waved meekly at her. The girl did the same, but a lot less with the meek and more with the bold cheerfulness/spaztic-ness.

Amy’s mother tapped her on the shoulder to start taking the stuff into the house. Her mom waved to the girl in the next house over and then went inside with a box. Amy saw that there was only the big box left. She wrapped her arms around it and lifted. The box was way to heavy so she fell over backwards, dropping the box. Tender head-flesh hit against rock pavement-non-flesh. Her vision narrowed and she blacked out.

The redhead saw this and ran over to her, she picked up the stuff and moved it aside. Kneeling down beside the prone form, she checked to see if Amy was alive. “C’mon girl, wake up…”

Amy opened her eyes slowly and groaned, the first thing she saw was a pair of lovely green eyes staring back at into hers. “Am I dead?” She asked slowly, her voice having a groggy sound to it.

The girl shook her head and giggled slightly, she seemed entranced by the violet hue of the formerly unconscious girl’s eyes. “Either you’re living, or we’re both dead. Why did you think that?” she asked, mirth on her innocent features.

“Well…I thought I was seeing an angel…I still think so…” she realized she was flirting, or at least that’s what Liz said it was called with boys, and blush rushed to her cheeks. She looked away slightly.

Redhead giggled again. “Thanks, but no, I’m not an angel…I’m Willow.”

Amy smiled and sat up slowly while Willow moved back. “So, not an angel, but a tree…I’m Amy.” She smiled wider and turned to face her. “Nice to meet you.” Willow nodded in return.

“Amy! Why are sitting on the ground and not helping bringing things in?” Her mother’s voice carried those words of impatience to her ears and she blushed. She picked up the boxes with Willow’s help and brought them inside.

****

Amelia sat on her bed and turned on her light with only slight difficulty. Her fingers slipped over the twist on the light many times. “Gah!” was her cry when she finally accomplished her task and fell onto her back.

“Everyone okay over there?” Willow’s voice drifted through Amy’s open window. Amy hopped up from her bed and stumbled a little. She went to her window sill to see Willow leaning on hers, directly across her.

Amy nodded. “Yep…just a little trouble with the light…” She said, a bit of blush creeping into her fair cheeks.

“Okay, just making sure my new friend is not getting herself killed again on the same day I met her.” Willow said with a wry smirk, which made Amy blush more but she still smiled widely at the fact that she had a friend already in this new town. “Hey, Amy, you wanna come with me to a movie tomorrow?” She asked, twirling a strand of fire red hair around her index finger.

Amy smiled. ‘How very Liz of her…’ “Sure! That sounds fun. Will we get into any mischief?” She asked, grinning lopsidedly. A slightly bolder side of Amy starting to come out.

“Of course.” Was Willow’s reply her smile matching Amy’s.

“Perfect. You know, Willow, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship.” Amy said, smiling greatly.

“Indeed it is.” Willow responded.
