The sun was slowly slipping past the horizon as the slayer finished her required reading for the day. She sighed as she stood the ancient text had taken a ridiculously long time to get there. Dramius was rather long-winded and the footnotes were extensive. She considered leaving the book to shelve later but Mr. Zabuto was rather particular about his books.

Book in hand she made her way into the stacks, and with the agility of her kind quickly scaled the rolling ladder. It would be at the very top, she thought. Once there Kendra slid the book on the shelf. She made to head back down when the glittering letters on the spine of a book a few inches down caught her eye. Verita's Truths was not supposed to on this shelf, in fact it was on the one behind her. She wondered who'd misspelled the book. Leaning down she grabbed the book. It'd be best to just reshelve it now rather than have to hear Mr. Zabuto go on about the proper way to shelve research material.

One hand holding the top of the ladder, Kendra leaned out toward the next shelf. If she stretched just a little further....

Beneath her the ladder shifted, coming loose from its moorings. Kendra gasped as the ladder wobbled and she quickly shifted her balance. She clung to the ladder's side just managing to keep from tipping over. She could probably keep her balance for several more minutes but eventually she would have to move. The slayer glanced around the room trying to decide the best course. If she tilted back toward the shelves the ladder combined with her weight would send it and the surrounding shelves crashing like dominos. But she couldn't stay like this all night. She knew what she had to do. But the thought made her cringe. Well, there was nothing for it.

Shifting her weight and feeling the wood wobble beneath her feet the oddest sense of deja vu swept over her. She paused glancing around the room. For a second she could have sworn she'd seen all of the meticulously arranged shelves crashing to the ground. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she once again tipped the ladder toward the center of the room. Riding the ladder down, she launched herself into the air landing on her feet just a few feet ahead of the ladder.

She glanced up an unreadable look on her face as Mr. Zabuto flew into the room seconds after the crash.

Her watcher peered quizzically at her. She slid Mr. Pointy out, and waved toward the door. "I'll be going on patrol now, sir."

Before he could say anything Kendra fled the room.
