~ Having the Friends for the New Year ~

"I think I'm going blind just looking at it," WIllow says. "I can't believe you wont just tell us who it's from. We're your bestest friends in the whole wide world."

B's about to answer when I walk up to her. We’re stood in her garden and even though it’s full of her guests, it feels like it’s just the two of us there.

"Hey," she says to me.

"Hey," I say back. You can't even imagine how beautiful she looks. She’s tied her hair back in a half-pony and is wearing this off-the shoulder deep red dress. She’s absolutely amazing and I'm so proud she's mine. But, all I can really say is, "Great party."

To which all she can reply is, "Thank you."

I smile as if I want to say something else, but can't.

Her pals are looking at me, so I feel I should say something to them.
"'Sup, you guys," I manage. But they look at me like I'm carrying a disease.

"Faith," Willow deadpans with no feeling.

Xander doesn't say anything, so I just look to B like I'm saying 'Later' and go back to my acquired posse. I'm pretending like I'm talking, but I can hear them from over here.

"I can't believe she had the guts to turn up," Xander says, glaring at me.

"Who does she think she is?" Red chips in. But B doesn't say anything. She's just been staring at me the whole time and I can see her from the corner of her eye.

"And what is she wearing anyway?" Red continues. "Could she leave a little less to the imagination?"

Hey!!!... Okay, I gotta admit, I am showing a little mid-section, but judging from his expression, Xander doesn't seem to mind.
B tells them she'll "Be right back," and leaves the garden, making her way into the house.

That, I believe, is my cue. I tell my crew that I'm going to the restroom and follow her inside. I don't walk very far, 'cause she's waiting for me by the stairs.

"I'm sorry," I tell her. "I know you’re off-limits tonight. I just needed to tell you how amazing you look."

"No, I'm sorry," Buffy admits. "I should have told them by now. I’m working on it."

"It's cool," I assure her. "'Sides, I like sneaking around."

She looks kinda sad. “I don’t,” she says. She sighs, slipping in, “Who’s the girl you came with tonight?”

Uh-oh. “Buffy, I told you I was bringing a date.”

She goes quiet and then says, “She’s very pretty. What’s her name?”

Did I say uh-oh? Because, UH-OH!!
”Marissa,” I answer.

“Huh. Does she go to UC S?”

“Yeah. Go figure. She just transferred from Orange County.”

She nods. Is she about to tear up?
I hold her.
“Seriously, baby, she’s no-one. I’m just keeping up appearances, y’know. I thought you were okay with that.”

“I am,” she says, looking everywhere but at me.

I go to lock eyes with her and ask, “You sure?”

“Yeah.” She fakes a smile and says, “C’mon, let’s go upstairs,” Taking me by the hand.

I let her pull me up, then spin her around; pulling her down and pinning her to the steps beneath us.

Smirking, I lean down on her.
"Where do you think you're going?" I ask, grabbing her by her leg and pulling her down toward me.

Looking up in surprise, she asks me, "Here?"

I straddle her legs and lift her dress by its hem. "What do you think?" I say back.

“Faith, no. Someone could walk in and see us any moment now.”

“I know,” I reply, kissing her. “Don’t it make you horny jus’ picturin’ it.”
I lean down to kiss her again and she turns from me.

Talk about buzz-kill.
“What?” I ask.

“Faith, I wanna go and tell them.”

“Now?”

She nods.

“Can’t we do it after we…” I wiggle my eyebrows. “Do it. We’ll feel *a lot* more relaxed.”

She shakes her head.
“I can’t stand another minute of not being able to be with you properly.”

I roll my eyes.

Women!

“Plus,” she continues. “You can say goodbye to that… that hussie.”

“Huh?” Oh. “Is *that* why you’re all wanting to tell your friends now?”

“What?” She scoffs. “No.”

“Admit it – the green eyed monster is rearing its ugly head!”

“No it’s not,” she says back. “You said it means nothing and I trust you.”

Oh. Okay then.

“Unless,” she adds. “It does mean something. Just how far do you have to ‘keep up appearances’?”

“Aw c’mon, baby,” I say, joking. “It’d look a little suspicious if I didn’t kiss and grope her a little.”

Now it’s her turn to roll her eyes. “Yeah, I forgot you were a big sleaze.”

WHAT?!
“I’m a sleaze? I came in here for a quickie with my girlfriend. One that WITH HER PERMISSION, I coulda had with my date. I think that’s pretty un-sleazey.”

“Whatever, Faith. Let’s just get on with it.” She reaches for me.

“Get on with it?!?”

“Yeah,” she replies, taking hold of my top.

“No,” I refuse, forcing her to let go. “I’m not in the mood anymore.”
Yeah, so I’m a woman too.

“Faith, you’re always in the mood.”

“Er, no I’m not, because I’m not in the mood now!”

“Fine!” She says, pushing me off her and storming off.

UGH!! What the fuck just happened?? I follow after her and head back into her garden. I lock eyes with her as I walk past her and her friends and to my date.

“You’re back,” Marissa says, taking my hand.

“Yeah,” I say, drawing her close. “What time is it?”

”Still fourty-five minutes to go.”

“That’s a shame,” I say, looking for and holding Buffy’s gaze. “I’m *really* looking forward to kissing you at midnight.”

Marissa moves in closer to me and whispers, “You could kiss me right now.”

And I’m not gonna lie to you, for a moment, I feel like doing it. Just to see what she tastes like. Feel her body pressed up against mine and everyone’s eyes on the two of us.
But, the look on B’s face puts me off. She turns away and starts talking to Xander.

Next time maybe she’ll re-think being a bitch, huh?

“Hold that thought,” I say, catching sight of Spike walking outside from the house. He does a quick scan of the garden, missing me and so heads for Buffy. I go over to them.

“Faith,” he says, when I get there.

“What’s wrong?” Buffy asks him, acting like I’m not there.

“What else? Demons,” he answers.

”Do you need me to-“ Buffy starts.

“Faith’ll do, love. You just enjoy your party.”

He cocks his head toward the house and I shrug, following him through the house and out the front door.

“Nicely done,” I tell him. Pointing out my car to him. He spots it and I toss him the keys.

“This is yours?!!” He asks. “Bloody hell, Slayer.”

“I know. Buffy got it for me. Aint it sweet?”

He gets in and starts it up. “I could get used to this.”

I laugh and take the passenger seat.
