Chapter Two
Buffy and Willow walked through the door of their two bedroom apartment, and sank down onto their couch. Buffy looked over at Willow, and grinned because they were both so exhausted. She still couldn’t get over how busy they’d been, it was just so unusual for them this time of year. Usually in the summer, they were really busy. They were never busy during school season, but it was as if someone had spread the word on them. She was used to having to work that hard, though, because she usually had to work two jobs. She had been working at a magic shop, but she’d had to quit due to the hour shift at Giles’s. Buffy said good night to Willow, and went into her room.
Buffy couldn’t get Angel out of her head. She knew she was being silly because she didn’t even know him. Also, he did have a girlfriend. She laid down on her bed, and sighed. She didn’t know what she was going to do. He kept insisting on sitting in her section, and every time he did, it made her a babbling idiot. He always smiled at her, and said the nicest things to her. After a few more minutes of thinking, Buffy sat straight up, and jumped off her bed. She ran into her bathroom to take a shower.
Willow was the first person to wake up, and she was so beyond bored. Buffy was still snoozing away, and she didn’t want to wake her up. She was thinking about calling Giles, to ask him if he needed any help today. She shook her head at the thought, because she really needed this day off. To even think about working was so bad. She figured the best thing she could do would be to go to the beach. Maybe by the time she changed, Buffy would be awake. She went into her room, changed, and went back into the living room. She didn’t think Buffy was up yet, but when she went into Buffy’s room, she wasn’t there. She figured she must be in the bathroom, so she went to knock on that door. When she did, Buffy answered.
“ Buffy, are you in there? I thought maybe we could go to the beach. I have to get out of this apartment, or I’m going to end up calling Giles.” Willow could hear Buffy chuckle at her, because she knew Willow probably would do it. She opened the door wearing her bathing suit, and smirked at Willow.
“ It’s like we share a brain or something, Wils.” Willow howled with laughter, and ran to change into her suit. Buffy was wearing a pink bikini. The top looped around her neck like a halter, so most of her back was exposed. The bottom was shaped like a catholic school skirt, only much shorter. She’d bought this on a whim, when she and Willow had been at the mall. She grabbed her shorts and tank top to pull on over it. She sat down on the bed, and pulled on her tennis shoes. She was completely ready when Willow emerged wearing her cute green one piece. She waited as Willow pulled on her clothes and together, they grabbed their purses. They were about an hour away from the beach, so they climbed into their car, and blasted the radio. After a few minutes, there wasn’t anything playing that they wanted to hear. Buffy picked up her purse and looked over at Willow.
“ Can I play my Parker song?” Willow grinned and shook her head.
“ Yeah, I guess if you want to. It’s sad, but I’m actually starting to like this song.” Buffy smiled, and popped in the CD she had, and bypassed to the song she wanted.
***Am I more than you bargained for yet
I've been dying to tell you anything you want to hear
Cause that's just who I am this week
Lie in the grass, next to the mausoleum
I'm just a notch in your bedpost
But you're just a line in a song
(A notch in your bedpost, but you're just a line in a song)***
After a few minutes, the two girls began to sing along to the song. She called this her Parker song, because of the Way Parker Abrams had treated her. He’d gone out of his way to court her, but as soon as Buffy had done the deed with him, he stopped calling. Buffy knew that she’d been had, but she hadn’t wanted to admit at first. She blew it off that he wasn’t there, saying he’d probably had to get to class. Then she saw him with another girl, and she’d known. She’d never gotten the opportunity to tell him off the way she wanted too, but she told herself that she would eventually.
***Drop a heart, break a name
We're always sleeping in, and sleeping for the wrong team
We're going down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we're going down swinging
I'll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it***
Willow and Buffy were singing along with the song they loved so dear. Willow had told Buffy she needed to confront him and ask him why he had done that to her, but Buffy couldn’t bring herself to do it. She didn’t want to know that she’d just been a bet, or something like that. She’d learned through the grapevine that Parker did that with everyone. He courted, he had, he left. Buffy couldn’t wait for him to fall so hard for a girl, because she was going to make sure that the girl left him.
***Is this more than you bargained for yet
Oh don't mind me I'm watching you two from the closet
Wishing to be the friction in your jeans
Isn't it messed up how I'm just dying to be him
I'm just a notch in your bedpost
But you're just a line in a song
(Notch in your bedpost, but you're just a line in a song)***
Willow didn’t really say much about Parker anymore to Buffy, because she knew that Buffy was still hurting. She would never admit to it, of course. Buffy and Willow had come from a small town called Sunnydale. They were far from home, and Buffy had wanted some companionship that her best friend couldn’t offer her. She was afraid that Buffy wasn’t going to put herself out there anymore because of the way that dick had treated her.
***Drop a heart, break a name
We're always sleeping in, and sleeping for the wrong team
We're going down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we're going down swinging
I'll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it***
Willow knew that Angel really like Buffy, he as much as told her so. He’d been coming into the restaurant, asking for her section, for as long as she could remember. It had started in the first month they’d been working there. Buffy had been his waitress, and ever since, he’s been asking for her section. He’d obviously gotten tired of waiting, because he was now dating this girl, Cordelia. She was hoping that Buffy would wake up, and start dating. Even if she didn’t date Angel, just date someone!
***Down, down in an earlier round
And Sugar, we're going down swinging
I'll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
We're going down, down in an earlier round (Take aim at myself)
And Sugar, we're going down swinging (Take back what you said)
I'll be your number one with a bullet (Take aim at myself)
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
We're going down, down (down, down)
Down, down (down, down)
We're going down, down (down, down)
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it****
We're going down, down in an earlier round (Take aim at myself)
And Sugar, we're going down swinging (Take back what you said)
I'll be your number one with a bullet (Take aim at myself)
A loaded God complex, cock it and pull it
As the song came to an end, Willow pulled into the parking lot across the street from the beach. They grabbed their things, and headed for their favorite spot. There was one half of the beach that was secluded, and not many people went there. The main reason for this, was because the water wasn’t as deep as other sections. The girls only got in to cool off, so they didn’t mind this fact. When they got there, there was only about five people there. They spread their towels out, and took their clothes off to reveal their bathing suits. Buffy sat down and started putting the tanning oil on her skin, as Willow took off for a quick dip. After putting the oil all over her front, Buffy prepared to lay down, but heard a familiar voice.
“ Well, fancy meeting you here. Did you need help putting that on your back?” Buffy turned her head and saw Angel standing beside her. At first she couldn’t speak, just stared at him. It was then she remembered her manners, that she spoke.
“ Um, sure that would be great, thanks.” Angel just nodded his head and took the bottle from her. He kneeled behind her and began to slowly lather her back. Buffy leaned her head forward and closed her eyes.
“ What brings you all the way out here?” Angel chuckled at her.
“ The same thing you’re doing here, I’m sure. Just needed to get away from everything, school, and work.” Buffy smiled to herself. He replaced the cap on the bottle and sat down next to her.
“ Would I be too forward if I asked you out to dinner sometime?” Buffy gaped at him. This guy was completely gorgeous and he was asking her out?! It was then she remembered the girl he’d been with.
“ I thought that you had a girlfriend.” Angel beamed at her.
“ So, you did notice me, huh? No, Cordelia is not my girlfriend by any stretch. So, now that’s settled, would you have dinner with me sometime?” Buffy didn’t know what to say. She really didn’t know if she could trust this guy, but then she thought ‘what the hell?’ She was saved from answering, when she heard another familiar voice call out.
“ Angel, come on man, you’re holding up the damn game!” Buffy looked over and saw Parker himself standing in front of them. He recognized her and smirked.
“ Well hey, Buffy, how’s it going?” Buffy didn’t say anything at all, just stood, and walked calmly over to the water. Willow was getting out, but when she saw Buffy’s face, she called out to her. Buffy ignored her friend, and dived into the water, letting it envelope her.
Seeing Parker had shocked her more then she wanted to admit to herself. Also that Angel was friends with him, shook her. Was Parker telling all of his friends that she was good in bed, and they should try her out? She wouldn’t put it past him. She climbed out of the water, and walked back to her towel. Parker was gone, but Angel was still there waiting for her.
“ Hey are you okay? I didn’t realize that you and parker knew each other, or I’d have asked for an introduction sooner.” Buffy glared at Angel, and didn’t say anything. It was Willow who came to her rescue.
“ Well then we know not to hang out with you now. Buffy and I are leaving now, so please leave us alone. Also, please don’t ask to sit in her section anymore, or Giles will have to move her to another section. We don’t want that to happen, because Buffy loves her section.” After saying that, Willow gathered their things, and walked away. Angel stopped Buffy before she could walk away, but Buffy wouldn’t see reason.
“ Look, I’m sure you’re a nice person or whatever, but you’re friends with Parker. He’s the biggest asshole I’ve ever had the displeasure of knowing, so I don’t want to get to know you.” She started to leave again, but Angel stopped her again.
“ You won’t date me because of who my friend is? Wow, that’s extremely childish. I’ll tell you now that Parker isn’t my friend, but I can’t be friends with someone who’s so immature.” With that said, he walked away, leaving Buffy with mixed feelings.
