Last time:

“Anya, I’ve been thinking that things just weren’t right between us for a while now, and I think that now is as good a time as any to fix the problem.” He waited a beat before looking her right in the eyes and said, “Anya, I don’t want to be in a relationship with you any more. Please go by my apartment tomorrow during the day while I’m at work, and get all of your things. Whatever is left by the time I get home will be out in the trash by morning. Wills, can you please be there while she’s in my apartment?”

“Sure Xan, no problem.” She said, smiling sadly at her friend.

Anya had yet to say anything; she just stood there open mouthed. Xander took that as his cue to leave.

“I’ll see you later guys, I have some things to do.” He said, as he turned and walked out of the Magic Box, feeling a ton of weight lift off of his shoulders for the first time in over a year.

Seconds later, a primal scream was heard.

Chapter 2

The second Xander heard the scream through the door he hightailed it for his apartment, hoping that the girls, Spike and Giles would be alright.

************************
Inside the Magic Box everyone was holding their hands over their ears, because of Anya’s scream. Suddenly there was a bright flash of light and the Demon Lord D’Hoffrin was standing next to Anya. Seeing this, Anya gloated at the Scobbies.

“HA! I’ll get my revenge now!” She smirked. “D’Hoffrin, make me a Vengeance Demon again so that I can punish Xander and all other men like him again.” Anya demanded of her former boss, before turning back to the Scoobies, glaring at them in triumph.

D’Hoffrin raised an eyebrow and frowned at Anya’s demands, before quickly recovering and smiling again.

“All right Anyanka, you may once again hold the title of Vengeance Demon and all of the power that it entails. Unfortunately, since your… ‘vacation’… from your job was so long, I had to give the position you previously held to another. I do however have an opening in another department for Vengeance Demons. It may take you a while to get into the swing of things though.”

Anya spun around to face D’Hoffrin, the fury plainly visible on her face.

“What do you mean someone else has my job? Have them take the other position! I’ve had this gig for over 1000 years! It’s only right that I get my old job back!” Anya screamed, stamping her foot on the floor for emphasis.

The Scoobies were all in shock at the tone Anya was using with the Demon Lord, and all slowly crawled under the tables to weather the storm that was sure to hit, and protecting the old and delicate research books. And it did hit. The full force of D’Hoffrin’s anger manifested its’ self in the form of thunder, lightning, and wind, and above all the noise was heard D’Hoffrin’s voice.

WHO, IN ALL OF THE DEMENSIONAL HELLS, DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? YOU WILL TAKE THE POSITION OFFERED TO YOU AND YOU WILL LIKE IT, OR YOU WILL STAY AS A HUMAN MORTAL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIMITED LIFE!” D’Hoffrin roared at Anya, who was now cowering on the floor.

The storm eased as D’Hoffrin walked away from Anya to sit in a chair before continuing.

“I am very disappointed in you Anyanka. You were given a great gift. The chance to become human again and to have a family that loved you, but you threw it all away just to get what you wanted.

When you had your powers taken from you, I looked around to see if there was anyone who would be able to give you what you needed. Out of everyone in Sunnydale, only Xander and a demon named Clem had the level of kindness and giving that would have made you happy, had you but truly given them a chance. Xander would have made you happy, but you treated him worse than the men you sought Vengeance upon in the name of wronged women everywhere.

Because of this, you have lost Xander, and as punishment you will now only be able to serve vengeance for men whom have been mistreated and betrayed by women. You may not use your powers of vengeance against Xander or anyone he considers family or friend, and you may not ask any of the other demons to harm him or them in any way. Had you stayed the caring human you had first become when you lost your powers, you would have had everything you had ever wanted.”

D’Hoffrin looked at the Scoobies and smiled sadly. He had really liked Xander and had thought that he would be good for Anyanka, but didn’t realize until too late that Anyanka wouldn’t be so good for Xander.

“I am truly sorry for the intrusion and for my angry outburst. You can all safely return to your seats. Please tell Xander that I am deeply sorry for what has transpired, and I hope that he finds who or what he is looking for.” With that said, D’Hoffrin disappeared in another flash of light along with Anya.

Everyone quietly picked up scattered papers that had blown about during the storm created by D’Hoffrin, before returning to their research. No one said a single word until after a few minutes of complete silence, and that was only to ask for a book to be passed. No one wanted to say anything about Xander or Anya, and Buffy just mumbled something about having another demon to get rid of as she went back to sharpening her blades.

Spike had sat back in the chair he had taken, after Xander got out of it to yell at Anya, and started flipping through the book that Xander had knocked out of the chair. It was quite a shock to find that the entire book had information on the ‘being’ that they were researching, and it made him wonder if Xander had actually looked at the book or was he hiding the information for some reason. As he scanned through the book he found a section written completely in Welsh, which he was thankfully fluent in, with part of the passage underlined. The passage read, “Dilediaith bod, medru creu einioes efo a cyfnewid tragwyddol bod am y tywyllwch, gweddus byth a beunydd cydweddogion”, which translated to the ‘Pure being, able to create life with and to change eternal being of the night, becoming forever partners’.

This was part something Spike had heard once before when Angelus was telling stories and fables of Vampire lore, not that Spike believed him. It was all just a bunch of rubbish… right? He decided he wanted some answers from Xander, so he carefully hid the book in his duster pocket as he pulled out his lighter and cigarettes.

“Think I’ll just nip out the back way for a smoke, suns down enough for me to get around without gettin’ scorched.” He said as he headed out the door, making a beeline for Xanders apartment.

With a few stops along the way, to kill a few demons and take their valuables just because he could, Spike finally made it to Xanders apartment. Looking around to see if anyone was watching him, he noticed that people were all starting to venture inside for theevening, subconsciously acknowledging the danger in the night.

Spike hopped over the railing and opened the door to enter the building, only stopping when he reached the elevator. He thought over a few reasons why Xander wouldn’t mention the information in the book, while he waited for the doors to open and admit him for the ride up.

When he reached Xanders door and listened he could only hear Xanders heartbeat, no movement, just the rapid heartbeat. As if he was being as still as possible, afraid to move. Spike smirked as he pounded on the door and Xander’s heart rate spiked through the roof.

“Open the door, whelp. Let me in or I’ll go ask Red if the book you dropped is one of the ones they are looking for.” Spike shouted, and smiled as the door was flung open to reveal a slightly pale Xander.

“Spike, will you keep it down, I have neighbors you know.” He said before he heaved a heavy sigh. This would be the first time Spike had seen his new apartment.

“Come in Spike, you are welcome in my home.” Xander said, and then coloring faintly, he bowed his head slightly and stepping away from the open door with his hands open in front of him to show that the welcome given was given with no hidden stipulations.
Spike genuinely smiled at the traditional ritual vampire invitation Xander had given him, and as he entered he felt the magic of the barrier change to wards and he nodded his head in return, showing his open hands in return to prove that there was no malicious intent. He waited for Xander to close the door before saying anything.

“I didn’t think that any of your lot knew the traditional ritual invitation for a vampire. Though I am surprised that the Watcher never used it. The ritual has reasons behind it, but for some reason I suspect that you know at least one of them. Am I right?” Spike asked as he took off his duster, laying it across the back of a chair, and then sitting down in the chair and looking around at Xanders new apartment.

“I know enough, maybe more than I should, and definitely more than Giles thinks I do. I know that because I used the ritual, and you returned the gestures in kind, you wont do anything to hurt me, or anyone who may have been in here at the time. Your honor wouldn’t allow it.” Xander said as he sat on the arm of the couch closest to Spike and crossed his arms.

Spike tossed the book on the coffee table, while looking around the room the entire time Xander had been talking. He knew that something was puzzling him, that he was missing something. It took him a second to figure it out, but once he realized what it was he looked around the room in confusion.

“Hey, Whel… er, Xander?” Spike asked, almost forgetting that the ritual had been carried out and he now had to call Xander by his proper name. “Do you have a fireplace? I smell smoke and soot.”

The shocked look on Xanders face gave away the fact that he did have a fireplace it was just well hidden. So Spike, being the curious sort, got up and started prowling around the apartment to find it.

“Spike, why are you here and what do you want? I don’t need you sniffing around my apartment for things that aren’t any of your business.” He said, as he jumped off the arm of the couch to follow Spike.

Spike finally came to a stop in front of a tall set of arched wooden cabinet doors set in the wall, with no handles on the outside. He felt along the outside of the doors for a way to open them but found nothing. Xander nervously tried to get in-between Spike and the doors, realizing too late that that wasn’t such a good idea as Spike leaned in and pressed his body against Xanders.

“So. Tell me Xan, what’s behind door number one? Smells like a fireplace but it seems a bit big to be the average wood burning kind. Care to give us a look?” Spike asked as he pressed Xander more firmly against the doors behind him. As the doors moved slightly from the pressure, a thin green magical barrier briefly sparked around the doors edges.

Spike Gasped. “I know what that is.” He said looking closer at the man pinned between the length of his body and the doors.

Xander was opening and closing his mouth as if he was trying to say something, but nothing was coming out. He could feel almost every part of the front of Spikes body pressed against him, and he was becoming surprisingly aroused. After months of just doing the dutiful boyfriend-girlfriend sex with Anya, and not getting much out of it, his body was actually interested in the demon in front of him.

Xander Groaned. He really didn’t want to be interested in a male of any species, but it was obvious that his body had other ideas. Spike was staring at him like he had never seen him before, before slowly lowering his face to Xanders neck and deeply inhaling the unique scent that was there. Xander groaned again as he started getting hard, and Spike groaned in return at the pleasure the scent gave him.

Spike thought for a moment about the book that Xander had dropped and realized why his scent was so pleasing. “I know what you are too.” He whispered into Xanders ear, and then he cringed slightly as Xander became instantly tense. “Shh, not gonna’ tell anyone, not even the others, but I do want you to tell me what you’re doin’ with a floo to the wizarding world. Then you can tell me why you were hidin’ the book.” Spike said in a soft, clam voice, while he stroked his hands up and down Xanders sides to clam him further.

“I can’t tell you Spike, no one can know. If I could have told anyone, I would have told Willow a long time ago.” He said as he relaxed completely, resting his forehead in the crux between Spikes neck and shoulder, before closing his eyes and giving in to the urge to deeply inhale Spikes scent. Spike gave a low rumbling purr, as Xander scented him, before chuckling slightly.

“I know quite a bit about the wizarding world, pet. I just wanted to know how you were connected with it. An’ why you’re connected well enough to have a floo in your apartment. Don’t think I’ve ever recalled seein’ an owl in Sunnyhell either. For that matter, is Alexander Harris your real name? Don’t rightly know any of the wizarding folk that go by the name Harris.”

Xander looked up at Spike, realizing that for the first time since he moved to Sunnydale he could actually talk about where he really came from. As he opened his mouth to tell Spike his real name the doors behind him flashed bright green and pulsed once. Xander quickly grabbed Spike and shoved them both out of the way of the doors, causing them to tumble onto the rug in front of the doors.

The doors slowly opened on their own, exposing a beautifully crafted, seven foot brick fireplace, with a cheery green fire blazing in the grate. Seconds later a darkly dressed man walked through the flames.

The three people stared at each other in surprise, before they all spoke at the same time.

“Malfoy!”

“Snape!”

“Oh, Shit!”
