I do not own Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BtVS), nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
A beginning
Author: Aislynn
Disclaimer: It’s not mine all of it belongs to Joss, and Mutant Enemy. I just fell in love with Buffy from the very first episode.
Summary: AU from the end of Season 3 of Buffy, not a Spuffy like my other stories. So the new Slayer is Synn Colton she will enter the Buffy/Angel scene in this chapter. I hope you like the changes I make to the two worlds.
Rating: NC-17
End of Chapter 1
Closing her eyes she felt the heat that coursed through her beginning to fade, and she knew she needed her sleep tomorrow was a big day. At 16 she was already a full fledged operative for Adrian.
Even before being gifted with the skills of a Slayer she was a formidable weapon.
Chapter 2 – A Beginning
Synn gazed at the doors before her as the tin can ascended toward the latest hotel room that she called home. A permanent address wasn’t necessary in her line of work, and when Adrian didn’t have jobs lined up for her one after the other she either took a little vacation or stayed at his compound just outside LA.
Sighing as an instrumental version of Whitney Houston’s didn’t we almost have it all started to fill the compartment. The latest job was done this one was just a retrieval job.
The doors slid open on the 12th floor and a young couple smiled at her as they got on. They were a good looking couple focused on each other. Synn’s gaze slid down as they held hands, their bodies instinctively moved closer to one and other, and they kept glancing at one and other. They were in love, or at least they thought they were in love for the moment.
At least they had the decency or rather good manners to keep their hands off one and other. As soon as the thought passed through her mind the girl leaned into the man and they gave each other a kiss.
Not just any type of kiss of which there were many but one of those I am going to suck your face off kisses along with all the lovely kissing noises. Now she was trapped in an elevator listening to a sappy love song and not only having to watch the couple practically devour one and other but she but she had to listen to it, as well. Public displays of affection were so inappropriate for anyone not under the age of 16, which these two defiantly weren’t.
The elevator finally stopped on her floor, and as if suddenly noticing they weren’t alone, the couple parted sheepishly giving her those oops were sorry looks. Moving past them she walked toward her room, and got her key out.
As Synn moved toward her room she could feel Adrian and another person inside. Sliding the magnetic card into the lock she walked in wondering just what they hell he was doing bringing someone to her room.
Their gazes lifted as she entered they were sitting in the living room section of the suite having a drink. Synn’s gaze flickered over Adrian who looked perfect as always, then it drifted toward the unknown quantity in the room. Attractive and athletic, very expressive eyes, topped off by a very expensive hair cut, tailored suit, and a very nice cologne. He wasn’t nervous exactly but she could feel tension coming off him in waves.
“Synn, I hate to disturb you like this but Mr. McDonald would like to hire you to for a job.” Adrian’s voice was soft and he got straight to the point, as always. Beneath the polite demeanor he conveyed quite a lot with very few words. The young man was powerful or worked for someone who was powerful, and would pay top dollar. Money wasn’t enough motivation for Adrian to bring a client to meet her. This young man must have access to power. Power was a different type of currency and you either had it or you didn’t.
“I don’t meet my clients Mr. McDonald no matter how much their willing to pay.” Synn replied ignoring Adrian’s unspoken warnings and setting her bag on the table. Her gaze remained on Mr. McDonald as he rose offering his hand like a gentleman. As she stared at his outstretch hand he smiled pulling it back.
“I can understand why, in your industry amenity is essential and it’s Lindsey. I asked to meet you because my firm is planning on making an investment in Adrian’s enterprise. This is just one job, which might lead to my firm using Adrian’s services exclusively when our in-house staff is unavailable.” There was a slight accent to his voice he didn’t initially grow up in the city and he probably didn’t grow up with money. What success and money he possessed he had earned on his own. “I must admit I defiantly wasn’t expecting you to be quite so young.”
Lindsey couldn’t help saying it; she wasn’t at all what he expected. A contract killer shouldn’t look like the girl standing before him. At only 17 she was every man’s fantasy come to life no matter what your type was. Long dark chestnut brown hair with lighter gold highlights was pulled back into a ponytail with a few tendrils escaping to caress her face. And, her face was flawless starting with her most unique feature her eyes.
Long think lashes framed violet eyes that reminded him of a gypsy. A deep violet with a ring of deep purple around the pupil, framed perfectly by two elegantly arched brows. High-set cheek bones framed an elegant nose. His gaze fell to lush lips that were almost perfectly sculpted but her lower lip was slightly larger. Beautiful seemed inadequate, and ravishing wasn’t a term one used for a girl not yet 18.
Synn Colton stood at 5’8 with a hourglass figure, this young girl wasn’t caught up in the current craze of young girls to be rail thin. She was well-endowed but not overly for her frame, and her body was obviously toned and lean it wasn’t what caught your attention. The way she moved was like liquid she was completely at ease in her own skin at her young age and she moved like an animal with purpose.
“Does it matter, if in the end I can get the job done?” Synn asked raising a brow fully aware where his gaze was falling and she could just imagine what he was thinking.
“Actually no it doesn’t. I work for Wolfram & Hart do you know of our firm?” Lindsey asked he knew she did for over the past 3 years she had done various jobs for the firm, it was why she was recommended for this job. The partners at the firm wanted a problem taken care of immediately and Lindsey was chosen to see that things were taken care of and to remedy the little problem they were having with their in house special operations team.
“You wouldn’t be here if I didn’t, and I thought you employed a whole special team to take care of your little situations.” Synn moved toward small bar opening the fridge she selected a bottle of water and turned back toward the two men. “So what’s the job?”
“We do have a team, but there have been some staffing issues. We actually need you to eliminate a man.” Lindsey leaned down pulling a file out of the small satchel he brought this evening.
“You’re willing to pay my fee for me to take someone out?” Synn asked.
“Actually he’s a human demon cross breed his name is Varrik Slovaski.” Lindsey held out the file watching her expression. At the mention of demons she didn’t even flinch.
“Varrik’s scum of the earth literally, I would do the job for free.” Synn glanced up from the folder meeting his gaze a wicked smile on her lips. “I’m not doing it for free but let’s just say I know the man or rather demon from a few years back. Her attention officially peaked because non-humans were her specialty, it just seemed right when she was taking out a vamp or demon.
The simple fact that someone was going to pay her for taking out Varrik Slovaski was the start of a great new week, and she wouldn’t even have to change hotels because this new mark was right here in town.
“So I take it your going to take the job.” Lindsey asked even though he knew the answer to that as he watched her flip through the file.
“I am taking this job but just for the record whatever business arrangements you have make with Adrian do not include me in the package.” Synn tossed the file on the table and opened her bottled water.
“We understand.” Lindsey couldn’t help it as a smile touched his lips. “As we discussed half of the payment upfront the other half will be delivered when the job is done.” Lindsey set the satchel on the table and picked up his coat from the back of his chair.
“It was a pleasure to meet you Miss Colton, I will see you Monday Adrian.” Lindsey noted that as he moved, she moved unconsciously never giving him her back.
“Good night Mr. McDonald.” Synn replied, sitting down in the chair he recently vacated.
Synn waited until Lindsey was gone, and her gaze fell on Adrian.
“Breaking your own rules, so what exactly does Mr. Lindsey McDonald have that you want?” Synn asked taking a sip of the water.
“Guess?” Adrian replied, lifting his jack and coke toward his lips.
“The real question Adrian is are you willing to pay the price, to get what you want?” Synn asked raising a brow.
“I don’t want to be exactly where I am 5 years from now, we need to make a move now or else we will always be working for someone else.” Adrian sighed getting up. “I better get home; by the way I got that new piece you ordered at my place stop by Maria wants you to try some new dish she’s created.”
Synn nodded watching as the only constant in her life gathered his things and left her alone. Alone, it seemed that more often that not she was alone these days. Glancing down she flipped open the file and started studying her latest prey.
