Chapter 2
Here's another chapter... I know it's slow going at the moment, but I didn't want them to just jump each other right away. It makes the smut later on more worth it... I hope. Enjoy.

The two slayers didn’t really say anything very deep for the rest of the meal. They hung around Buffy’s house until it got dark and then left to go to the nearest cemetery. As they walked down the streets of Sunnydale, Buffy finally decided to bring up the subject Faith had brought up earlier. The air was getting too tense between them.
“Faith, what exactly do you have in mind?”
Faith looked over at her as she continued walking, feigning ignorance. “For what, B?”
“I think you know what I mean, Faith,” Buffy said as walked next to her.
“Oh,” Faith said, almost like she had forgotten but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. It was all she could think about. “I was thinking we could just go for coffee or something else just as stupid,” she sighed. “I’m not good at the dating thing.”
Buffy smiled. “I can see that.” She thought about everything as they neared a cemetery for a few minutes before stopping and looking over at Faith. “I guess coffee doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.”
Faith stopped as well and looked at her in shock. “Are you saying yes?”
The blonde nodded slowly. “How ‘bout we head over to that diner a few blocks from here after patrol and talk through things?”
“Not exactly what I had in mind, but okay,” the younger slayer smiled as they reached the entrance. Buffy took the lead and Faith followed behind her, a big smile on her face.
******
Patrol was just as the pair had expected: dull. They had only encountered a few vampires and the chosen two had dusted them easily. As they left the last cemetery, Faith started to turn in the other direction.
“Hey,” Buffy grabbed hold of her arm, “where are you going?”
Faith looked at her quizzically, remembering what they talked about before patrol. “I didn’t think you were serious, B.”
“I was,” Buffy affirmed and turned Faith around. “Come on.”
Faith shrugged and followed the blonde the few blocks to the diner. They grabbed the booth in the corner and ordered coffee and a plate of fries.
“So,” Buffy started, “here we are.”
“Yeah,” Faith looked down and then back up at the blonde. “You want to tell me what’s going on here?”
“What do you mean?” Buffy asked as she snagged a fry off the plate.
Faith sighed. “I say I want to go out with you. You tiptoe around the subject and then want to grab something after patrol.” She paused. “Is this a date, B?”
Buffy gave her a small smirk. “Do you want this to be a date?”
“I think you know the answer to that, B,” Faith stared, trying to read her. “I just said so.”
“I really don’t know what to think,” Buffy said calmly as they both began to eat. “As you said, I’m straight... or at least I think I am.”
“Think?” Faith grinned at her.
“Yeah,” Buffy answered. “I mean, you’re incredibly hot. I’ll admit that. The thing is, I don’t really know what I want. We’re two very different people and you’re younger than me, not to mention dangerous.”
“Age shouldn’t matter and while I love being a bad-ass, I’m not that dangerous. At least, not to you. Anyway, I think you should try it out,” Faith smirked at her and winked. “You might like it.”
Buffy laughed. “We both know what you think, Faith.”
“Really?”
“Yes,” Buffy affirmed, hoping she wasn’t showing any hint of a blush. She looked down and realized the food was gone. “Should we get another plate?”
“Nah,” Faith waved her hand, “it gets in the way. I want to ask you a couple questions.”
The blonde smirked at her and shrugged, leaning back in the booth. “Why not?”
“Okay,” the younger slayer leaned back in the booth as well. “Can you finally tell me the deal with Angel?”
“I really don’t know what the deal is myself,” Buffy confessed. “I mean, it felt so huge at the time, like there was nothing more real, you know? I think it was more because we were told we couldn’t be together. I mean, he’s a vampire and my job is to kill vampires. Plus, he seemed so tortured. I just wanted to reach out to him, comfort him.”
“Did you love him?”
“Yeah,” the older slayer nodded, “I still do. Maybe a part of me always will.”
Faith nodded and took a sip of her coffee. “Was he the only one you ever...,” she just left her sentence hang in the still air around them.
Buffy blushed and lowered her head so Faith wouldn’t really notice. Buffy nodded slowly, not wanting to voice her answer.
The brunette nodded again and looked out the window. She knew it was a touchy subject for the older slayer. The blonde wasn’t every up front when it came to sex. Faith was secretly hoping to change that.
“Hey, B,” Faith reached across the table to touch Buffy’s hand, “I didn’t mean to hit on a touchy topic there. I’m just curious. I can’t even imagine what being with a vampire is like. No offense, but I don’t think I want to.”
“None taken,” Buffy said and finally looked back up at Faith, realizing she was getting comfortable talking to Faith about it. “What else do you want to know?”
Faith decided for a lighter topic. “Are you and Red secretly goin’ at it? Is Oz just a beard?”
Buffy spit out her coffee at Faith and started laughing. “No, Faith,” she giggled, “we’re just friends. I mean, she’s my best friend and I love her, but that’s all there is. She’s really head over heels for Oz.”
“Whatever you say,” Faith grinned and looked down at her shirt and jacket. “You really soaked me here, B.”
“Sorry,” Buffy said with a smile. “You want to get out of here?”
“Sure,” Faith responded and reached into her pocket, pulling some cash out and tossing it on the table. “I got this, B.”
Buffy smiled at her. “Okay, but I get next.”
“Deal.”
******
Faith decided to walk Buffy back to her house, even though it was out of her way. She really didn’t want the night to end. The brunette still couldn’t believe Buffy was even considering the notion of going out with her, of dating her. In the back of her mind, she was waiting for the older slayer to suddenly say the whole thing was a mistake.
“You know,” Buffy said as they walked down her block, “you didn’t have to walk me home. I am a slayer after all.”
“I know,” Faith smiled at her, “but if this is a date, I think I should walk you home.”
Buffy smiled back, still trying desperately not to blush. It was something she had been doing all night and she didn’t want to make it a habit. “Okay.”
They reached the blonde’s house after a few minutes and Faith walked behind her up to the door.
“So,” Buffy said slowly and turned back to face the brunette, “this is it, I guess.” She shifted from one foot to the other nervously.
Faith was just as nervous. Her hands were stuffed in the pockets of her leather pants and she was looking down at her feet. This was the one reason she never did the dating thing. She never knew what to expect from the other person. She looked up at Buffy after a few seconds and carefully leaned in, lightly brushing her lips against the blonde’s.
Buffy’s eyes went wide then she closed them as the brunette gently kissed her. It was something she never thought she would ever do, kiss another girl. This was Faith, however, and it felt so good.
The brunette gave her a small smile as she moved back, wanting to do so much more than just kiss Buffy but knew she shouldn’t. It was too soon, maybe not for her but probably for Buffy. She reached out and held the older slayer’s hand for a second, moving her closer to the door.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” she said quietly as Buffy blinked her eyes a few times.
“Uh, yeah,” the blonde managed to voice out as she tried to process what just happened. She squeezed Faith’s hand slightly before letting go and turning to unlock the front door. She pushed open the door and turned back once more to look at Faith. “Bye.”
Faith smiled. “Good night, B.”

The next morning Buffy showed up to school extra early. She wasn’t able to sleep at all the night before. All she could think about was Faith or more importantly, kissing Faith. She couldn’t get the thought, the feel of it out of her head. And now, she didn’t think she wanted to.
Buffy pushed open the doors to the library to be greeted by Willow. The redhead looked up from her book and smiled.
“Hey, Buff,” Willow greeted her and raised her eyebrows, “aren’t you here a little earlier than normal?” She looked at the clock on the wall. “Like, way early?”
“I guess so,” Buffy shrugged and sighed. She scanned the library to make sure they were alone and Giles was in his office. She walked swiftly over to the table and took a seat across from her best friend, leaning in to her. “Will, I have to tell you something, but you have to keep it a secret... at least for now.”
Willow grinned and leaned in as well. “You bet I will. What’s up?” she asked excitedly.
“Well,” Buffy looked down shyly and could feel a blush coming on, “I kinda went on a date last night.”
“See, I knew you were ready to start dating again,” Willow said gleefully. “Why didn’t you tell me you were interested in someone? Does he go here?”
“No, and it wasn’t so much I was interested in them as they were interested in me,” Buffy said, trying to get up the courage to tell Willow about Faith.
“Really?” Willow brightened even more, now fully intrigued. “Don’t keep me waiting, Buffy. Who is it?”
“Well, it’s,” Buffy started to blush and couldn’t stop it, “Faith.” She looked down, not wanting to see the look on her best friend’s face.
The redhead’s mouth dropped and she stared at Buffy wide-eyed. She lost her voice for a moment before she could speak. “You went out with Faith?!” she said a little too loudly.
“Will,” Buffy looked up at her, “could you keep it down? I don’t want the whole school to know.”
“Oh, sorry,” Willow said more quietly and leaned in closer. “You went out with Faith?”
Buffy nodded. “We went back to the house to grab some food and I wanted to get her to talk. I knew she was avoiding me, but I didn’t know why. So I ordered her favorite pizza...”
“Everything?” Willow asked as she grinned.
“Yeah,” Buffy confirmed, smiling. “So we’re eating and I’m trying to get her to talk when she just asks me out.”
“And you said yes?” the redhead asked, almost shocked.
“Not really,” the blonde looked at her, “I just talked to her about it. She seemed kinda embarrassed to even be asking, like she knew I’d just shut her down or laugh or something. So we go out patrolling and I ask her what she had in mind for this ‘date’. Next thing I know, we’re post-slayage and at a diner getting coffee.”
“That’s definitely like a date, Buff,” Willow looked down and thought, wanting to process the situation but also wanting to know more. “What happened next?”
“We talked,” Buffy smiled, “and she walked me home.”
“And that clinches it,” Willow nodded, “you were on a date.”
“I knew that, Will,” Buffy gave her a sarcastic look before sighing. “She kissed me.”
Willow’s eyes went wide. “You two kissed?” she asked then laughed. “If only Xander were here... he would have fainted just hearing that.”
Buffy laughed, relaxing now as she found it easier to talk. “Yeah,” she sighed. “I don’t know what’s going on with me. I’ve been thinking about it since last night and all I can think about now is that I want to do it again.”
The redhead was about to respond when Xander strolled through the doors. “Hey, girls,” he greeted then looked from one to another. “Did I interrupt a girl moment?”
“No, Xand,” Buffy said quickly, “we were just talking about... school.”
“Uh-huh,” Xander looked at them suspiciously, then shrugged and took a seat next to Willow. “Where’s Oz?”
“Probably sleeping,” Willow responded as she looked down at her book. “Cordelia?”
“Avoiding me,” Xander said quickly and tossed a textbook on the table.
The trio studied for awhile before Faith walked through the doors. Buffy looked up immediately and smiled at the brunette, who returned it happily.
Faith didn’t greet anyone, instead just walked over to the table and took a seat next to Buffy. She turned her head to look at the blonde and slowly put her hand on her thigh, under the table so the pair across from them wouldn’t notice. Buffy turned at the touch and met Faith’s stare. The brunette motioned for her to come closer. The older slayer leaned in so she was only a few inches from Faith.
“Did you have a good time last night?” Faith whispered into her ear, knowing Buffy could hear her but Willow and Xander couldn’t.
Buffy moved away just enough to look at the brunette and nodded slowly. She could see Faith was looking confident and a little unsure of herself at the same time and leaned back in. “Yeah... you just caught me by surprise.”
Faith didn’t need Buffy to explain, she knew what the blonde was talking about. All she could think about since last night was the kiss they’d shared. She moved her hand slightly on her thigh. “Do you want to go out again?”
Buffy smiled at her. “Sure... tonight after patrol?”
The brunette grinned. “It’s a date.”
