Part One - Changes

Charles Gunn and Winifred Burkle silently sat in Angel's office, looking out the glass window into the lobby. They observed Angel and Cordelia lounging on the dark red couch against the wall. Angel sat with his legs spread out on the cushions. Cordelia reclined between his legs, her back resting on his chest. They matched exactly. Angel in a dark red shirt, Cordelia in a dark red tank top. Angel in black pants, Cordelia in black slacks. Angel with shiny, black shoes, Cordelia with shiny, black sandals. The Seer held a carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream, feeding the contents of the spoon to her man. It was cute...in an almost creepy way.

Gunn frowned, leaning forward on the desk. "Is that really Cordy and Angel? They're..."

"In love..." Fred sighed, cupping her chin in her hands. "They're so cute!" In the lobby, Cordelia laughed loudly as Angel got ice cream on his chin and was attempting to lick it off. "How adorable is that?"

"Yeah, it's adorable compared to the loud yelling coming from their bedroom like- oh, every night?"

Fred slapped Gunn's arm lightly. "Charles! I don't think it's any of our business if-"

"Hey-" Gunn held his hands up. "If they wanna get their groove on, it's fine by me. As long as that man doesn't go homocidal and kill everyone and their momma, I'm cool. Besides- YOU weren't the one catching them going at it in the elevator and runnin' down the stairs trying to poke your eyes out and prayin' to Baby Jesus, were you?"

Fred's reply was interrupted by the door swinging open. A lanky boy of about sixteen stumbled inside, his eyes tightly shut. Fred stared at him. "Connor?"

"They're out there, aren't they?" Came his sharp reply, eyes still closed.

Gunn laughed, standing up and pushing Connor towards a chair. As soon as the boy felt the smooth wood on his back, his eyes opened. He shook his brown hair from his eyes. "Where were you, boy?"

Connor thrust a large white paper bag in Gunn's face. "Lunch. Dad shoved a fifty at me and said to take my time. Then he ran back into his room." Fred and Gunn exchanged a knowing look. "What?"

Gunn snatched the bag, peering into it as he walked back to the desk. "Nothin'. Your father's a complicated man." He pulled out the bundles of sandwiches and salads. "You got drinks?" The boy held up the large plastic bag. "Thank you..."

"Connor, don't you think your father and Cordy make a cute couple?" Fsuddsuddenly asked, glaring at Gunn. Gunn stared at her blankly.

Connor tilted his head, looking out the window at his father and the woman now kissing him. He shrugged. "I guess. I mean, Cordelia is a beautiful woman...and dad seems to really like her-"

"Ready to call Cordelia mom?" Gunn abruptly interrupted.

"Charles!"

The boy took some thought into that question, frowning. "She wouldn't like that. And I don't think I would either- it would be weird! She's all about being Cordy and Auntie Cordy. I don't call her that though...THAT would be weird...my aunt and my father making out-" A slightly confused look came over the boy's face, a product of having too mahoughoughts in one sentence.

"You are truly your father's son." Gunn muttered, shaking his head.

"Good afternoon, everyone!" Angel called, walking into the office. He tousled Connor's hair playfully, then smiled at Gunn and Fred. "What's up?"

Fred grinned. "Nothing much. No cases...just hanging out and talking..."

"Oh?" The vampire peered at the food, picking up a plastic container filled with salad and examining it. "What about?"

"Um..." She glanced at Gunn. "We...were...talking...about..."

"Baseball." Gunn spoke up quickly. Fred shot him a grateful look.

Angel frowned. "Baseball?" He chuckled quietly. "It's football season...you know that, Gunn." Gunn stared at Angel for several seconds, then did the only thing he could do in that situation. He walked out of the room.

Cordelia appeared at the door, turning her head to watch Gunn walk past her. "What's wrong with Gunn?" She asked.

"Apparently weirdness is hereditary in our clan." Angel muttered, opening a soda can.

The Seer crept up behind Angel, wrapping her arms around his waist. He smiled and tilted his head back, kissing her forehead. Fred practically screamed in delight, and covered her mouth with one hand. "So..." Cordelia spoke, reaching over and grabbing an apple. She pushed her blonde hair from her forehead. "Are we doing anything special today? Or just hanging out?" She rested her chin on her boyfriend's shoulder.

Connor picked up a book, flipping through it. "Did you have a vision today, Cordy?" She shook her head. He grinned. "Free day!"

"Schoolwork." Angel reminded his son firmly. The boy scowled.

Suddenly, the peaceful look on Cordelia's face changed. She exhaled deeply and slowly, dropping the apple back onto the desk. "Angel..." She said in a growgrowl. Almost immediately, Angel froze, as did everyone else. Fred and Connor watched as a look that closely resembled fear came over Angel's face. Cordelia exhaled slowly as Fred started to stand and back away from the two. Cordelia breathed again, trying to control herself. "Igottago-" She snapped, pushing Angel into the desk as she separated from him. The vampire slammed into the wood and tumbled to the floor. Connor jumped out of the way and into the bookcase as the Seer rushed for the door.

"Yo, I was thinking-" Poor Gunn was knocked over by a speeding train named Cordelia as she raced for the stairs. He painfully sat up from his sprawled out position on the floor, looking at Fred pinned against the wall, Angel halfway on the desk and the floor, and Connor almost climbing the bookcase. "Okay- we're so getting a sedative for that girl..."
