Chapter One
Chapter One.
“Nice nap?”
Wesley woke with a start, “What?”
“Did you have a nice nap?” Angel asked. “You looked so peaceful sleeping there. Long night?”
“, pr, prophecies, you know, the usual, death, destruction” Wesley tried to reorganise the papers on his desk.
“Well, how about a break from the death and destruction for some, well… death and destruction?” Angel asked.
“What do you mean?”
“The psychics have detected a serious paranormal disturbance at a nearby high school. We need to get there and do a cleansing spell, and I wanted people that I could trust to help me with it. We need to do it now or there are gonn a f a few more ghosts in that school by the end of the day. Fred and Gunn are gonna meet us at the car”
“Okay, lets go.”
Dawn was sat in math. It was another one of those days when she wished that she was still living on the hellmouth. Math was just so boring; she could barely keep her eyes open.
“Excuse me,” the guy sat at the next desk said. “Could I borrow a pencil?”
“Oh no, I’m not falling for that one again” Dawn replied. The boy just gave her a look. Great, Dawn thought, just another reason for them to think I’m a freak.
Dawn tried to concentrate on her algebra, focusing on the rows of confusing letters and numbers, trying to make sense of them. She looked up as the door opened and a tall, dark figure in a long black coat entered dramatically.
“Angel?” Dawn stood up.
“Dawn? Move… NOW” Angel yelled as Dawn stood looking at him, confused.
She ran towards him, before turning to see what she was running from. Where she had been previously stood was a man, if you could call him that. He was horribly disfigured; half his skin was missing, and the other half had knives stuck in at various points.
“Oh my God” Dawn gasped as Angel started to chant away, sprinkling various magical powders around as he did so.
It was needless to say that school was cancelled for the rest of the day. Most of the teachers and students were too shaken by what they’d seen to continue with classes.
“Wow, ghosts at the new school. Looks like it could be more fun than I thought” Dawn said to Angel as they left the classroom together.
“Yeah, if you consider extremely dangerous poltergeist action as fun… Dawn, you were in serious danger there,” Angel informed her.
“But you saved me, so it’s cool,” Dawn told him. “Since school’s cancelled can I tag along with you for the rest of the day? Please, I’m so bored, I need some quality demon fighting time.”
“Dawn, I don’t think Buffy’d be too happy about that. She obviously didn’t tell me you were in LA so that we wouldn’t spend too much time together. Plus, I’m really busy. Running Wolfram and Hart is actually quite hard work, you know.”
“That’s probably cus you just don’t know who’s gonna stab you in the back…literally” a young woman with a southern accent said as she met up with Angel. “Are all the ghosties gone? Cus they were creepy.”
“Yeah, they’re all gone, this school’s completely free from all paranormal activity now. Oh, this is Dawn by the way, Buffy’s sister.”
“Actually Buffy’s my sister,” Dawn corrected Angel, rolling her eyes. Why did everyone always get that wrong?
“Hi Dawn, I’m Fred. I work with Angel… but I’m not evil. I worked with him before the whole Wolfram and Hart thing, before you start to think I’m evil or whatever”
“Hiya Fred” Dawn smiled, looking at the skinny brunette. They were about the same height.
“And this is Gunn,” Angel said as a tall, smartly dressed black man walked round the corner.
“Wow, that was some seriously cool mojo,” Gunn exclaimed.
“This is Dawn,” Fred said. “Buffy’s her older sister,” she was cautious to get it the right way round, knowing that if she didn’t she’d be in for a serious telling off from Dawn if she didn’t.
“She’s a student here,” Angel explained, noticing the way that Gunn was looking Dawn up and down. That got his attention and he stopped looking right away.
“Really, you look a bit old to be a student” he said.
“Nah, I’m only seventeen. Perhaps it’s the Sunnydale education that’s aged me so much,” Dawn grinned. Gunn was quite cute, she’d have to get to know him a bit better. If Angel would let her, that was.
“And you know the other member of our team,” Angel said and Dawn directed her eyes to where Angel was looking.
A tall man with a toned body and rugged features had just walked into the room. Dawn caught her breath. She wasn’t sure if she believed in love at first sight, but this was definitely lust at first sight. He was the most incredibly good-lucking man she had ever seen. She’d never felt this way on first seeing someone, not even when she’d been under RJ’s spell.
“Actually I don’t believe we’ve met,” Dawn said, smiling flirtatiously at the man, eyes travelling up until they met his. “Oh…my…G she she gasped, her jaw almost hitting the floor. “Wesley?”
