Chapter Two
Chapter Two
Buffy was so nervous. She didn't know what posessed her to tell Xander that she'd tell him why she'd said no. If she did tell him that, Willow would probably never talk to her again. She really valued Willow's and Xander's friendship, but she wanted more from Xander. She remembered the first time she'd ever met him. She'd dropped her stuff in the hall, and no one was helping her. Then Xander knelt down and asked if he could "have" her. It had been adorable how he'd stumbled all over himself. Then she'd met Willow, and it was obvious how much she liked him. All that didn't matter this evening, though. She was going to get Xander alone, and she was going to tell him everything that she felt.
Xander had mixed feelings. He was afraid that Buffy was going to tell him that she felt he was like a brother or something. He really hoped she didn't feel that way, because he sure didn't have sibling feelings for her. He wanted to date her in the worst way. He'd been completely taken by surprise when she'd shown up at his house. He didn't want to go this stupid dance, but he was. He couldn't deny Buffy when she looked up at him like that. It wasn't fair, when she gave him the look. So, he'd gone out and rented a suit for this evening. Willow had told him about Buffy's dress, so he wanted to look nice.
Willow had butterflies in her stomach. Something had been definetly off when she'd asked Buffy if she could go with her to Xander's house. It was like she didn't want her there. Did Buffy have feelings for Xander? If so, why didn't she say something to her? It wasn't like she'd blow up or something, but she didn't appreciate being lied to. Buffy had called her last night, saying she'd talked Xander into going to the dance. She'd kind of hoped that he wouldn't have, so she could have gone over there. They could have hung out and watched movies or something, but they were all stuck going to this dance.
Buffy entered the Sunnydale gym with her nerves on end. She'd gotten into a huge fight with her mom before she'd come tonight. Buffy had bought the dress she'd been wanting forever with her allowance money. Joyce had said that she had to take it back, because it was to expensive. Buffy had to tell her that she had used her own money, but her mom didn't want to hear that. She'd won in the end, cause there was no way she was taking this dress back.
She looked around the gym, but couldn't find Willow or Xander. Surely he hadn't just said he was going to come, and then not show. She was walking over to the bleachers, when he walked up behind her.
" Hey Buffy, you look beautiful as always." Buffy jumped, and turned to face him.
" Xander, you scared the crap out of me!" She sighed to steady herself. He just grinned at her.
" Sorry, couldn't help myself. So, is Willow here yet?" Buffy shook her head.
" I haven't seen her, so I hope she comes. While we're waiting though, I wanted to get you by yourself. I want to get this over with before I give myself a heart attack."
Xander nodded. He really didn't want to hear this. They walked over to an empty corner, where they wouldn't be interrupted. When they got there, she turned to face him.
" Xander, I want you to know, that it was never my intention to hurt you. I love you, and I just wanted you to know that." Xander looked at her with a very confused look on his face.
" You love me? You mean, you only love me as a friend, right?" Buffy put her head down.
" Of course I love you like a friend. That's not all, though. I wanted to tell you that I'd love to be able to go out with you, xan, but we can't. I think I've had a crush on you since the first time I met you. It's obvious to me, though that Willow likes you. It's sort of a friend code to NOT date the best friend's crush."
Xander was stunned. He had been building himself up for this speech, but never in his wildest dream, did he expect her to say that! He was about to say something when Willow walked up.
" Hey guys! I've been looking for you guys forever!"
