Page 2 - Life is but an illusion
As soon as I departed the airport the buzz floating around was to avoid a certain section of downtown Los Angeles. Apparently a gas main ruptured underneath a prestigious law firm and the explosion caused the building to collapse. The resulting looting sparked a riot leaving that immediate area in shambles with many human casualties. Many of the humans killed were young girls who were in the area for a cheerleading convention. It was reported that they were at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Law enforcement sealed off that area and the media helicopters flying overhead are televising the destruction left behind.
Why am I not surprised that life continues as it normally does? I mean what is so unusual about riots in LA? The way Californians react to that kind of news is “Yeah, so what else is new?” Who would’ve thought it could be anything else?
Yep life does go on, everyone living their lives as usual merely pausing enough to see what they only want to see and then dismiss the entire thing out of their minds never guessing as to the real events behind the scenes and the sacrifices made to keep them in their little bubble of deniability.
My chest feels heavy with the knowledge that our slayers and the Angel team will never get one iota of recognition for their heroism. The panic resulting from that knowledge would make our jobs harder, better to keep everyone ignorant and hope that it stays that way.
Well have to go meet with Faith at her new digs “The Hyperion Hotel”. The one good thing Angel did after he left Sunnydale that one last time was to sign the deed over to me so that I’ll always have a place to call home.
I wonder if he knew that I would use it to house my slayers. It will be hard to go there and not think of them but now is not the time for emotions, just actions. Well this is all this action girl has for now. I can only hope to pull off my professional demeanor to the others.
