Chapter Two
Buffy didn’t want to leave Spike alone in the basement, so she unchained him and insisted he come upstairs while she tried to call Riley. Spike sat on the stairs wiping his bl nos nose with a towel. He watched her dial the phone. He noticed that her fingers were shaking and he briefly wondered if she really cared that much about him. Then another attack hit him and he fell back on the stairs, yelling as he clutched his head.
Buffy’s heart hurt just watching him suffer like that. “Hello. I need to get in touch with Riley Finn. Flowershop? Is this a real Flowershop or is this one of those pretend Initiative things? Look, if Riley Finn should happen to stop in there, could you please tell him Buffy Summers called and it’s an emergency. There’s something wrong with Spike’s chip.” She hung up the phone in frustration.
“It’s no use, luv. I can feel it. I don’t think I have alot of time left. This chip wasn’t meant to last.” He wiped more blood from his nose.
“No! Don’t talk like that.” Buffy went and sat next to him on the stairs. “We’ll figure something out. We always do.”
“Buffy, I don’t thi was was supposed to live this long. Maybe it’s just another thing we have in common. I’m not going to make it. I’m sorry, luv.”
Buffy felt tears sting her eyes. “No! I am not going to lose you.” She threw her arms around him and another attack hit him. She held him tightly till it was over and the tears slid down her cheeks. “I’m taking you back to the Initiative complex. We’ll find the files on the chip there. There must be something.”
“There was a drug they used on me, after they put the chip in. It took the pain away.”
“Then we’ll find it.” Buffy now had a glimmer of hope.
