Chapter Two

Willow had been right, the crowd was getting restless. Xander’s drunken father was starting to pick fights with half the demons in the crowd. Buffy saw that Willow had gotten the piano player onstage. She quickly ran up to him and whispered the songs she wanted him to play. Then she took her place at the microphone. “Everyone, please take your seats. I’m going to sing a few songs in honor of my very best friends. This is dedicated to the ones I love.” She looked directly at Spike seated in the audience when she said this, making eye contact with him and never breaking it during her performance. The music started to play and she sang:

I've never been wrong
But you're the only one I trust to show me the way
I always hear your voice
And in my dreams I hear you calling my name
What is it about you?
Some kind of light shines from your face
And I can't turn away.
I'm like a prisoner
Captured by your eyes,
I've been taken
And I've been hypnotized.
I'm like a prisoner
Captured by your eyes
I've been taken
And I've been hypnotized.
And your eyes say everything
You want to keep me here forever, I can't escape
One minute's so sincere,
Then you completely turn against me and I'm afraid.
You don't have to say you love me,
'Cause if you want me, I'll stay
'Cause I can't turn away.
I'm like a prisoner
Captured by your eyes
I've been taken,
Taken by surprise.
I'm like a prisoner
Captured by your eyes
I've been taken
And I've been hypnotized
I'm like a prisoner.

Buffy got a standing ovation when the song ended. Spike was afraid to dare hope she meant what she was singing. But he prayed she really was directing the words at him. She reminded him of a siren in those old sailor stories, luring a man to his death with her heavenly voice. And he would have gladly died for her.

Everyone took their seats again and Buffy sang her last song:

He's got a way about him.
I don't know what it is,
But I know that I can't live without him.
He's got a way of pleasin'.
I don't know why it is,
But there doesn't have to be a reason anyway.

He's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is,
But I have to laugh when he reveals me.
He's got a way of talkin'.
I don't know why it is,
But it lifts me up when we are walkin' anywhere.

He comes to me when I'm feelin' down,
Inspires me without a sound.
He touches me and I get turned around.

He's got a way of showin'
How I make him feel,
And I find the strength to keep on goin'.
He's got a light around him,
And ev'ry where he goes
A million dreams of love surround him ev'ry where.

He comes to me when I'm feelin' down,
Inspires me without a sound.
He touches me and I get turned around

He's got a smile that heals me.
I don't know Why it is,
But I have to laugh when he reveals me.
He's got a way about him.
I don't know what it is,
But I know that I can't live without him anyway.

Buffy’s second standing ovation got interrupted by Willow running down the isle shouting, “Xander’s gone! He left Anya! There isn’t going to be any wedding!”

The crowd started in surprise, everyone was confused, and Xander’s father said in a loud drunken voice, “Well someone damn well better get married after I paid for all this!”

Buffy looked at Spike and grinned. He looked at her confused. And she ran to him and grabbed his hand, pulling him toward the altar. “We’ll get married!” She shouted it out and everyone in the crowd went silent, staring at them.

Willow’s jaw dropped. “Buffy, are you insane? You can’t marry Spike. He’s evil. This is a spell, right? I can fix it—“

“No, Will, it’s no spell. We’re getting married. We love each other.” She looked at Spike when she said that last part. And he thought he would fall over from the look of love she shot him. He didn’t say anything. If it was a spell, he sure as hell wasn’t about to break it.

Tara came over to them. “Willow, it’s alright. Love comes in many forms, you know. They really love each other. This is right for them.” She kissed Willow tenderly and the two of them went to stand near the altar, now as Buffy’s bridesmaids.

Clem went to stand on the other side of the altar for Spike and he shot Spike a thumbs up.

Buffy and Spike stood before the Justice of the Peace and Buffy said she wanted to say something first. She turned and faced Spike.
“That night they brought me back, when I saw you standing at the bottom of the stairs, I knew everything would be alright. I knew I would be alright, because you were there.” She took his hands in hers, alittle surprised his hands were shaking.

Spike looked into her eyes and said, “The day you died, I died, too. I didn’t want to be in a world without you. And then, suddenly, you were back. And you made me feel alive again. I love you, Buffy Anne Summers, Slayer. I’ve always loved you and I always will.”

They took their vows then, pledging to love, honor, and cherish till the day they died.
