Leaving Town
Spike couldn’t decide what to do. He knew he was in love with Buffy. He also knew she could never love him. He made a decision.
Dear Dawn,
I’m leaving you this letter to say good-bye. Never forget that I love you, you are my best, no make that my only friend. I just can’t live like this any more. I know after last night there is no hope for me, so I will try to make a life elsewhere. Once I get settled I will write to you and let you know where I am, but please don’t tell your sister. Not like she’d care anyway. Last night was the last straw. She shut me out of the house, and told me she never wanted to see me around again. Please don’t take it out on her Bit. It is not her fault she couldn’t love me, it’s her calling to kill creatures like me. I need to let her go. It’s better this way for everyone. Be strong, and know that she loves you, she will protect you please let her. Say goodbye to your Mum for me, She was always nice to me. Don’t tell Buffy I left she’ll figure it out on her own. I will miss you terribly,

Spike read the letter one more time before folding it and placing it in an envelope. He snuck into Dawn’s room and left it on the pillow beside her. He kissed her softly on the forehead. Spike closed his eyes and inhaled her scent for the last time. He closed his eyes and silently made his way back outside.

Spike turned the wheel sharply to avoid the person standing in the middle of the road. He swerved and smashed into a tree. ~ Can’t drive the sodden car with a tree in the middle of it, now can I? ~ He asked himself.
A vampire came running up to the car and smashed in the windshield with a bat.
Spike got out of the car. “What’s your problem mate?” He asked angrily.
“You! You’re my problem! Helping the Slayer. What kind of vampire are you?” He shouted threatening Spike with the bat.
Spike grabbed him and threw him on the hood of his car. A stake appeared in his hand as if from nowhere and he dusted the vamp before he could say another word. Thick vampire dust settled on the hood.

“Hey Clem could I stay with you for a couple days?” Spike asked when his friend opened the door.
“Hey sure Buddy! Come on in.” Clem said enthusiastically.
“Thanks mate…It’s just till I can get my car fixed and get out of town.”
“No problem Buddy! Stay as long as you like.” Clem smiled.

Dawn awoke when she rolled onto the envelope Spike left her. “What the …?” She asked picking it up and opening it.
~ Oh Spike. Why did you have to be in love with someone who couldn’t love you? ~ Dawn asked silently. She checked the alarm clock beside her bed. ~ 4:30 AM. Maybe he’s still at his Crypt. ~ She thought jumping out of bed and quickly stuffing a few things in a duffel bag.
Dawn quickly went downstairs and left a note for Buffy and Joyce to find.
Mom and Buffy,
Had to be at school really early for tryouts, see you later love Dawn.
She read it over twice. ~ Yeah believable. It’ll buy me a couple of hours anyway.

“Buffy Is Dawn with you?” Joyce asked franticly coming into the living room.
“No why? She’s not here?”
“No and the school called, she didn’t come in today…” Joyce said panicking. “I thought you kept her out cause of Glory…”
“It’s ok Mom I’ll find her. I promise.” Buffy said giving Joyce a reassuring hug before running out the door.

“Spike…I need you help Dawn is …right here.” Buffy said glaring at her sister. “Where is he?” She asked angrily “And why the hell is he letting you…”
“He’s gone Buffy…he’s really gone…” Dawn sobbed.
Buffy looked at her and took in Dawn’s tear stained face. “What do you mean he’s gone?” She asked.
“Here…” Dawn said shoving the letter at Buffy. Buffy read it over quickly. “He loved me and now he’s gone. It’s your entire fault. I HATE YOU!” She screamed as she ran from the crypt.
Buffy caught her just outside and grabbed Dawn by the arm. “Dawn…he left for his own reasons, he’s a vampire he doesn’t have a soul, he is incapable of love no matter what that letter said.” Buffy said trying to make Dawn see reason.
“No…you’re the one incapable of love. Spike loved Dru for over 100 years, and he loved us, me like a little sister and he is in love with you, you’re just too much of a bitch to see it. You couldn’t hold on to Angel or Riley and the only reason you love me is cause those monks put fake memories into your head.” She screamed.
Buffy didn’t think. She just reacted and slapped Dawn across the face. “Don’t you ever…Oh Danwie…I’m so sorry….” Buffy said trying to pull Dawn into a hug.
“Leave me alone.” She screamed and pushed Buffy away.

Buffy tried to find Dawn. She checked all of her usual places. Dawn was no where to be found. ~ She’s probably at home by now. ~ She thought toselfself, making her way home.

Spike followed Buffy at a safe distance. ~ May as well help her with that Glory chit, seeing as how I’m still here. ~ He thought to himself. ~ Long as she doesn’t know I’m around. ~
