In Honor

Willow was doing some light cleaning in the dorm roomed she shared with Buffy. Both her and Buffy liked to keep a neat room, but her more so than Buffy.

Unlike Buffy, Willow wasn't a SIT. She was a witch. Certain Wiccans that displayed talent for witchcraft were often taken by the Council as children and raised with intense training.

Willow and Buffy were best friends. They were almost never apart in their free time. Willow has already turned 18. She already learned that after she graduated from Council high school she would go to college to further her learning of the magical forces. She couldn't wait to hear what exciting place Buffy was assigned to be the Sr inr in.

Buffy neared her dorm room almost in tears. As she opened to door she broke down.

"Buffy? What happened?" Willow rushed to her friends side.

"Tell me, please." Willow begged to know what on earth had cause her friend to be so upset.

"Willow, you won't believe-....they want me to marry Angelus!" Buffy finally spoke his name.

"Wh- That can't be right......Only it is right because it is the Council. I can't believe that is what they picked for you!" Willow stood in shock beside her friend.

Hours later

Buffy had calmed down a bit. The shock had been replaced we rage. How could this have happened? She had a few ideas and they all involved Angelus. The Devil himself.

Angelus had been Buffy's teacher in a few classes in both academics and fighting in the school. He was 27, intelligent and gorgeous as hell. But he had an evil streak that would make you cringe. Buffy remembered that she was 2 minutes late to his class one day and he demanded that she stay after school and run 10 miles alone.

Buffy despised him for that alone. But there were other things. He was a known womanizer. Buffy found it sick that he seemed to bring a new Barbie doll back to his quarters every night.

Buffy took a sip from her Dr. Pepper. It was warm, the can had been under her bed for a few days. Council rules went against such things as sodas. But if there was away around a rule Buffy Summers would find. That was part of the reason she wasn't going to be assigned Slayer duties beyond the Council.

Buffy thought about running away. No. She couldn't do that. It was the Council and they had powerful witches that could locate her. Besides, she wouldn't bring that shame to her family. It was a great honor to be chosen as a Slayer in Training. It was an honor for her to be chosen to marry a Council memeber or fill her Slayer duties at another hell mouth. Her parents would not be shamed just because Buffy hadn't gotten her first choice in life paths. However, it would be a curse to her parents to learn that their daughter ran away from her calling. Even if she hadn't seen her family in years, she still wanted their love and respect. In the final years of slayer training, contact with outsiders is totally off limits. They had their TVs and radios sure, but phyiscal contact wasn't allowed at all. Not even phone calls.

"So- so what will happen to me" Buffy looked down as she asked her friend. Buffy never bothered to learn the customs of becoming a Council members wife.

"Well, next week there will be a short party to honor your 18th birthday and becoming a Slayer. You know that, we have been to plenty 18th birthday party's. Later that afternoon there will be a private wedding ceremony in the chapel. Only a select few that you invite can come. After that, you will finish out your senior year at the school and graduate. Then you will do various jobs for the Council. Oh- and tomorrow night there is a ball. You get to have a proper 'date' with your husband-to-be. It is a chance for you two to talk and get to know get other." Willow searched Buffy's face for any signs of hope. There weren't any.

"I can't do it Will. I just can't. I can't live my life with that man. I don't want to. I don't want to sleep with that man. Would you?" Buffy said through her tears.

"Well, no, what with the being gay and all. Look at the postive side, atleast you will get to see your family again. Buffy, trust me, things seem bad now, but they will get better. Things will look 10 times better in the morning."

Willow hoped her own words were true.
