Chapter 2

At the Bronze


Spike didn’t leave Jasmine’s Side for Two weeks. Even though he wanted to see Buffy he resisted the urge. He didn’t even go to see Dawn.

“I know it’s hard Spike but tomorrow it is. We go see how jealous we can make that girl of yours.”

“You sure you want to go in here luv?” Spike asked nervously
“Yeah I do Spike, it’s time. You need Buffy to see you’re moving on…like she told you too, I know she’s probably in there with all of her friends…but come on come dance with me…” Jasmine said pulling him along by the hand.

“So where’s the evil undead?” Xander asked pulling a chair up to the table.

“Xander, I asked you not to call him that. Spike is not evil anymore, hasn’t been for a long time.” Buffy said sadly looking at the floor. “No one has seen him in two weeks. Didn’t you notice he wasn’t at your wedding?”

“Nope, really didn’t. Well it’s about time he got over his obsession with you” Xander grinned. “Or better yet, maybe someone beat me to it…maybe he got dusty.” Xander said, his grin spreading further at the thought. He didn’t notice Buffy’s look of horror at that thought, nor the tears that welled up in her eyes.

She blinked them back. He’s gone. Give it up already. If he was still around he would have tried to talk to me by now. She thought to herself.

“I have to go to the ladies room.” Buffy said hoarsely.

Ok pull yourself together Buff, He’s gone. Get over it already. Buffy thought to herself as she splashed cold water on her face. I told him to so maybe I should listen to myself. Can’t have anyone noticing how much I miss him.

“Anyone want to dance?” Buffy asked when she approached the table.

“I do” Dawn said jumping up from her seat beside Tara.

“Me and my girl are gonna sit this one out Buff.” Willow said

“Come on Xander.” Anya said pulling him to his feet.

They danced for three songs and when the music started to slow down Buffy and Dawn made their way back to the table.

Dawn noticed a really cute guy approaching the table. “Hi… My name is Brian. Would you like to dance?” He asked Buffy. “Buffy and no thanks…I…um…not in the mood.” She finished lamely.

“Well if you change your mind, I’ll be at the bar.” Brian said nodding to where his friends were sitting.

“Why didn’t you dance with him Buffy? You haven’t had a boyfriend since Riley…” Willow asked when he was out of earshot.

“Just not in the mood Will.” Buffy said sighing.

“Look just let Buffy dance or not without all the questions ok?” Dawn said defending her sister.

“Sorry I was just trying to help.” Willow said

“Well, we’ve had enough of your helping Willow.” Dawn said meanly

“Dawn! Do not talk to Willow that way. She’s trying to change. I will not stand for you to talk to her that way.” Buffy admonished when she saw Willow’s eyes fill with tears.

“I’m Sorry Willow, I’m just a little mad at someone else right now, and I’m taking it out on everyone else.” Dawn said sighing.

“Who are you mad at Dawnie?” Tara asked sweetly

“Spike. What a jerk. I haven’t seen him in like two weeks, I don’t know if he’s even in Sunnydale anymore. I used to see him almost everyday.” Dawn said ranting.

Buffy looked sadly into the cup in her hands.

“Oh my god there he is.” Willow said excitedly. “Look Dawnie, he's there dancing with that girl…”

“I’ll be right back.” Dawn said and she strode off before Buffy could even stop her.

Dawn marched right up to Spike “Where the hell have you been Spike?” She asked angrily. “I haven’t seen you in two weeks and you show up here and don’t even come and say hi?” Dawn was furious.

“Bit…I …um gimme a sec, I’ll get Jasmine a seat and we can go and chat ok?” Spike said soothingly to her. He leaned over and said something into the Girl’s. Th. The girl turned and went to find a seat by the bar. Spike then led Dawn to a quiet corner to talk. He didn’t notice Buffy was watching his every move. Who the HELL is that and what is she doing with Spike? Buffy though to herself as a huge wave of jealousy rushed through her.

“I’ll be right back, I need a drink.” Buffy said seeing her chance.

Buffy made her way to the bar, right beside Jasmine

“Hi.” She said smiling and then turning to order her drink.

“Hi,” Jasmine said with a beautiful smile. Yeah that’s Buffy. No wonder he’s in love with her. She’s fearless.

“Well, Bye.” Buffy said after she had gotten her drink and a good look at Jasmine’s Bit riddled neck.

“Bye.” Jasmine said with a little wave.

Buffy returned to the table just as Dawn did after her talk with Spike.

Spike led Dawn into a corner by the pool tables. “Bit I am so sorry for not…stopping by and for not getting in touch with you, your big Sis and I had a sort of falling out and I didn’t think it would be wise to…well she told me not to … keep in contact. I’ll talk to her and tell her how upset you are by this and ask her if I can come see you sometimes ok? I …She just doesn’t want me around…and I don’t know if I can…”

“I really missed you Spike.” Dawn said tears welling up in her eyes.

“Dawn, don’t cry Bit. I missed you too.” Spike said taking her into his arms. “I’m so sorry.” He said softly.

“You promise you’ll talk to her?”

“Yeah, I will, if she says I can’t come around your place, well then maybe she’ll let you come see me sometimes.”

“You aren’t staying at your Crypt anymore though right?”

“No Bit I had to move, too many memories. Her scent. How did you know that?” Spike asked surprised.

“I went to see you Dumbass. Everything of yours worth keeping was gone…I thought you left for good.” She said fresh tears starting to fall.

“No Bit I’d never leave town without telling you goodbye.”

“Good cause I’d have to kick your ass.” Dawn said smiling. “So…date?” Dawn asked raising her eyebrows in Jasmine’s direction where Buffy was sanding beside her getting her drink.

Spike turned to look and a smirk crossed his face quickly. “She told me to move on Bit. I …don’t’ …didn’t want to …but unrequited love…hurts so much, couldn’t take it anymore, so yeah, trying to date.”
Spike said looking at the floor. “I’ll talk to her in the next couple of days. That be ok?”

“Yeah, thanks Spike.” Dawn said giving him a final hug and headed back to the table.

“Well?” Buffy asked as soon as she sat down.

“Just had a chat with an old friend, Sheesh Buff nosy much?” Dawn asked. She loved making Buffy squirm.

“Well I was just…never mind.” She said as Xander and Anya returned from dancing.

“I’m gonna go patrol. Can you guys take Dawn home?” Buffy asked looking at Willow and Tara

“Yeah Buffy, we’ll take care of it.” Willow said

“Thanks guys, I …I’ll see you later.” Buffy said gathering her things.

~~ a week later ~~

Buffy had ¾ of her patrol done before she felt him “What do you want Spike?” She asked not turning around. Please don’t make this harder. She pleaded silently.

You Buffy, always you that’s all I will ever want. Spike thought to himself. Aloud he said “It’s Dawn, She wanted to know why I can’t see her. I told her I’d ask you if I still could. See her I mean, You wouldn’t have to…be there. You wouldn’t have to see me.” Spike said. “I know how you feel Buffy and I understand, but don’t take Dawn away, and don’t take me away from her. Please Buffy. She’s hurt and upset and if you do you’ll just alienate her more.”

“I…Spike I …”

“Buffy, I’m not asking you for any of your precious time, I’m not doing this because I think it’ll win me points, or for any reason other than I love her and I miss her. I need to see her Buffy, she’s the only one left who…just please?”

“The only one left who what Spike?”

“The only one left who cares about me.” Spike said sadly. “As you can see I am trying to move on like you told me to. Been dating and everything. I was hoping you’d let her stop by my place sometimes too?” Spike asked hopefully.

~~ a couple of days later ~~

“Dawn…Dawn…” Buffy yelled up the stairs

“What? For crying out loud Buffy, I was in my room.” Dawn said coming down the stairs.

“Spike’s coming over tonight, he’s gonna hang with you while I patrol, I want him gone before I get back.” Buffy said turning away from Dawn so Dawn couldn’t see Buffy’s tears.

“Spike I’m Glad you came.” Dawn said opening the door wider for him to enter.

“…I …I should …I can’t forget Bit, what am I gonna do? Bein’ here surrounded by her scent, I …can we go? For a walk outside won’t take you far I just…can’t stay Dawn please.”

“Yeah, let’s go to the park, we can hang out, you can push me on the swing ok Spike?” Dawn said feeling sorry for him and leading the way.

“Yeah, Bit don’t you can’t… tell her ok please, don’t tell anybody… I feel like such a Nancy boy. Bloody pouf I am.” Spike said sullenly “It’s just I saw her, and I smell her, I’m tryin’ to stay away cause I know that’s what she wants and I am trying to move on but…s’just so bloody hard.” Spike said sighing.

“I know Spike she can be such a bitch. That night I saw you at the bronze, she saw you too and when I came back to the table she was all ‘what?’ but I wouldn’t tell her and she got mad. Like she owns you or something.” Dawn said resting her head on his shoulder. “I don’t understand what her problem is, I know she cares about you …”

“It’s her friends Niblet, she has to have their approval for everything. She’s livin for them you know…they pulled her out of heaven and she…”

“But Spike it’s not fair. She could be happy with you if she’d just let herself.”

“That’s just it Bit, I am beneath her, I am an evil soulless monster who she should have dusted years ago, pathetic git, not even worth that I suppose.”

“Don’t say that Spike…Please that’s not true.” Dawn said tears spilling down her cheeks.

“I know it’s not true Bit, She thinks so, thinks I can’t love cause I’m a soulless monster. But I do I love you and Buffy. I care about other people though. Saved Jasmine, dusted some vamps that were attackin’ her.”

“I Spike was that your date? Jasmine? She’s pretty.” Dawn said smiling softly.

“Yeah, but she’s not Buffy.” Spike said sadly.

“Dawn? Dawn I’m home.”

“Upstairs.” Dawn yelled. Buffy went to Dawn’s door and knocked. “Go away Buffy. I don’t want to see you right now.” Dawn yelled through the door.

“Dawn are you ok?” Buffy asked through the door.

Dawn opened the door suddenly surprising Buffy. “You were so cruel to him Buffy. I heard some of the things you said to him, and he is still your willing slave. He’d do anything you asked of him. He loves you. he really does and you’re throwing it all away? You are the biggest bitch I have ever met. I. Hate. You.” Dawn said through clenched teeth. “You hurt him bad Buffy and you can’t even see it.”

Buffy slapped Dawn across the face. “Don’t- Oh Dawnie I’m sorry…”Buffy sobbed as Dawn slammed the door in her face.
