Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Buffy and her mother hit the small group of cabins just as Dawn’s wish reverberated through the world. Buffy sucked in a deep breath, feeling something inside of her twitch to life. She knew what this was, even if she had no name for it. She’d felt it once before when she’d been brought back to life by CPR. Whatever it was, it was primal.

She turned to her right but her mother was gone, which was confirmed for the car was no longer here. Inside the cabin Spike jumped as Clem just vanished before his eyes. No smoke and mirrors, just the gentle demon suddenly not there.

But he did leap into a defensive pose when the door to the cabin flew open and Buffy stepped inside. Her hazel eyes, normally strong but reserved were fierce and wild. She gave him a grin and flew across the room, jumping into his arms. He grunted from her sudden attack, falling to his back. But his eyes rolled back as she suddenly assaulted him with her lips, teeth, and tongue. He groaned and gave into her, his demon clambering to be free.

It had been too long of not seeing her beautiful face. Her flashing silver eyes...silver? Too long of separating them so that their future could be sussed out. Fuck the future, he never wanted to be separated from her. But Spike had learned a few things about himself. And he’d never be satisfied with scraps this time around. This had to be a true relationship, or he needed to stay away from her. Fighting for control, he rolled their positions until he was over her and pulled back, panting for breath he didn’t need, “Buffy...what...”

She grabbed his face and pulled him back down, kissing him strongly. Almost brutally. She gave a soft
growl as they separated, her eyes still flashing silver, “You’re mine.”

Heat flushed Spike’s body, almost enough to melt him to her but he kept his distance. It was a spell. Or some type of possession. Buffy was never this sure of herself. Hell, it took her ten minutes just to decide what she wanted for breakfast every morning. Shaking his head, “You don’t...don’t know what you’re...” His eyes rolled back as she started rubbing up against him, “...God...don’t do that, luv...hmm....No! No, ah...this is a spell or something. Right? Right?!” He squirmed away from her, desperately trying to get some distance so he could think. He’d never seen her so aggressive and wanton. It made him want to pound into her into the middle of next week. But it was the very reason he was trying to distance them. She was never like this so there had to be a reason. She crooked her fingers at him, silently enticing him to return but he retreated more, “Luv, there’s a reason you’re acting this way. So we’ll just go see your watcher and-...”

She had him pinned up against the wall, “MINE.”

Eyes rolling back from the warm, wiggling body against him. Hell, he may be more than a hundred but he was just a man. It wouldn’t do any harm, “...yours...” She grinned wickedly and dropped to her knees, working on his pants. He hissed and tried to shake her off but only until she was confidently handling the cool length she found. His head hit the wall, eyes slamming shut as all the blood in his body rushed to one spot. Brain effectively shut down, “Aw...hell, slayer...”

She was up and in his face, growling sternly, “Buffy...not slayer...Buffy...”

Face slackened and compliant, willing to say whatever she wanted as long as she continued, “Buffy...” She grinned and returned to her position, wasting no time in swallowing him, “Bloody Hell!”

Anya had her hands rolled up into fists, “What did you do, Hal?”

Joyce Summers appeared in the room, looking around in confusion even as Dawn jumped off the table and ran to her, “Mom!”

Halfrek returned to her human features and slid casually to the floor, “Just doing my job.”

“Bullshit.” The vengeance demon blinked in surprise, “That was personal.”

Trying to remain aloof and professional, “Really, Anyanka, we never do vengeance for personal gain. You above any should know the price for that.”

Anya, formerly vengeance demon Anyanka, silently nodded. She was human because she’d been tricked but she’d been forced to remain human before she’d been deemed unworthy to return to vengeance. Plus, if she were truly honest she no longer wished it. Xander loved her, it was all that she’d wanted.

Giles crept into view, the violence outside growing quiet as it distanced from the store. He’d pretty much given up on the prospect of getting out any time soon, “So, this is another vengeance demon?”

Halfrek smiled, “Somewhat. Anyanka was the patronned saint of scorned women. Some others will take any wish...I specialize in children.”

“Hal? The wish?”

Sighing in irritation in Anya’s one track mind, “She wished for her sister to decide. I’m making it possible so that she can.”

“What?”

Not looking at the mortal watcher, Halfrek carefully touched Anya’s temple, the ex-demon jumping as if shocked. Memories and experiences of over a thousand years poured into her and she ravenously consumed them. Since her rebirth as a mortal that life had always been faded, like a dream, but no longer. Anya turned her gaze to Hal, understanding and contentment shining in her eyes for the first time in years.

The vengeance demon smiled before looking to the watcher that had spoken. Giving an angry look at Giles, “Your slayer is the most skilled warrior that has existed since the first. She has a lot of potential that just needs to be brought out. Her choice of mate will see to it.”

Giles’ expression closed off, “I will not permit her to lose her human element.”

“You don’t have a choice, old man. Elizabeth is strong. Her mate will ensure that both Elizabeth and the self named Slayer survive. And I will ensure that she has help along the way.” In her mind, she sent a call to a sorceress friend of her’s in Australia. Kylie would be most helpful to Buffy in the years to come.

His eyes glinted with danger, “I will never allow her to mate.”

Joyce’s eyes narrowed, arm around her daughter. < We’ll just see about that, Rupert Giles.>

Halfrek’s own expression glinted with anger, “You won’t remember this conversation to worry about it.”

Willow raised a hand, “Altering memories is a bad, bad thing.”

“I might agree, but to save your friend’s life I will take that chance.”

Xander jumped to his feet, “Buffy’s not in danger with anyone except that bloodsucker.”

Whirling on him, “You have chosen a demon for your mate. You have no room to talk.”

“Anya’s not a demon anymore.”

“I will always be a demon, Alexander.” Eyes shifted to Anya who turned beseeching eyes on Halfrek. With a nod both Anya and Xander vanished.

“Xander! Anya!” Then a bright light encompassed all of them.
